I was bringing my lunch up to my mouth and suddenly I had half a sandwich in my hand and the other half was already in the gullet of a sea gull! I am Savvy, I am aware of gull habits, but this one set a new high bar. I had to laugh, the gull was surprised to find itself with a beak full of veggies. Needless to say said gull stood staring at me while I finished what remnants it left me.

Falmouth Heights Beach is lovely with soft golden sand. Many families enjoy fun moment on the waters off Falmouth Sound. NOT FAMILY-FRIENDLY…read more The beach itself is excellent. The overall experience is not. The town of West Tisbury permits only one car *per house* to park at the beach. So if you have multiple families (with little kids) sharing a house, and everyone in the house wants to go simultaneously, then they must be shuttled. Which potentially means adding & removing car seats. The town also doesn't seem to have accounted for the case where multiple families from the same house may arrive at different times. (Ex: One family in the permitted car, another family dropped off by someone who doesn't want to go to the beach.) The town gives only 1 set of credentials. Fine, allow only one car. But why not give one beach access card to each family? Finally, this information's buried. We learned it at the pass office; it wasn't in the guidebook we bought, the websites we'd checked, nor our rental's info packet. Hopefully this review will help other families avoid this pitfall. ‍

At the risk of sounding like a snob, the beach road doesn't have a sign for a reason. Do not take the car, bus, or bike here thinking you are just going to get in. I am not being an elitist. I'm just saying you will be wasting your time. Also, I'm sick of seeing reviewers on other sites trash this beach just because they rode their bike onto the ferry and expected to cycle across the Island to swim here. Don't be a dumbass and crash through the tick-infested hillside trying to sneak in, either. Park Rangers guard this beach, so if the ticks don't get you, they will. If you are fortunate enough to get your hands on a beach sticker, I highly recommend it. Aside from being flanked by the Vineyard's only nude shoreline, this beach is one-of-a-kind. Gorgeous clear water, waves that can get absolutely humongous, clay cliffs, and the long stretch of sparsely-populated sand that comes with the exclusivity of resident-only beach rights.
