This restaurant is incredible and I'm SO glad to have lived nearby for so much of my life. It's our…read morefamilies 'go to' Chinese takeaway (I'm really sorry Mrs Lee at Davenham's Sun Ho - I love your special fried rice - please forgive me). It's small, family owned and consistent. Consistently brilliant. Our usual order is as follows: (feeds 3 adults and one bottomless-pit Brother) - Sweet and Sour Chicken; it's honestly the best I've had anywhere. Ever - Char Sui Roast Pork; again, amazing - Soft noodles; with bean sprouts and onion - 2 Egg Fried Rice or 1 Chicken/other meat Fried Rice; Tasty, non-greasy - Prawn Crackers - and one other main dish that we choose at random The family/staff who work here are friendly and super organised; when you arrive for collection (they don't deliver) the orders are spread in a fan over a silver tray - they know exactly which docket to choose from the delicately arranged pile, they pop into the kitchen and out with a bag of take-out-container filled joy. You can also opt to eat in. The restaurant is fairly small but the service is exceptional and the food is wonderful regardless of where you eat it. Car parking can be a little tricky at busy times. It's just off the main road with the car spaces in front. It's tight squeeze to manoeuvre if you're wedged in nearest the house. Also, watch out for the sneaky traffic light camera as you approach. But hey, even if you do get flashed on your way to mouthfuls of heaven - you're the real winner here.

Like all the other reviews I cannot praise this place highly enough…read more A tasty, tidy, friendly & reasonably priced restaurant, that never fails to impress in its quality of food. When you compare it to 90% of its competitors it wins hands down every time! actually make that 98%!! We even tried somewhere else nearby when they were shut and all we can say is, we swore never again!

The problem for me is I'm not sure if I really get it and I'm not sure whether I enjoy these two types of cuisine being mixed together in such close proximity. I believe it takes a top quality eatery to mix so many types of food and still manage to keep them all at the highest level of quality. Lau's for me does not manage to get the balance right. The front window of the shop advertises good food and good portions and the portions part is actually quite true I'm still just not sure about the standard of the food. For me the chips were far too greasy and the chinese dishes seemed to lack much of the flavour and spice you would get in a real top notch eatery. I haven't been brave enough to eat their kebabs yet but even by kebab standards they do not look particularly appetising. The prices are okay but nothing exceptional to draw in the student crowd and I feel they need to try some more student orientated offers to keep them coming in. The staff are nice enough and they try hard to serve you quickly and efficiently which is what you want in terms of fast food. The shop itself doesnt look great from the front not dirty exaclty but perhaps a little bit scruffy which is not really what you want from a food establishment. This place isnt exactly bad but the food has not really made a fan out of me either. My advice would be if you want a good chinese go to a chinese takeaway and for chippy go to a traditional chippy not somewhere which tries a fusion of the two and never really manages to pull it off.
