    Bluefin Collar

Came to Chula for the 3rd time this past weekend and they do not disappoint. We got a Blue Fin Collar and it was phenomenal. Also got White Sea Bass and a Yellow Tail Collar- all great on the grill. If you're BBQing for a group - Chula is the place to go. You're getting the freshest fish with expert cuts for nominally more than the pre-frozen farm raised in bulk fish from the grocery store. 2lb min on fish cuts - great for group BBQs (or gluttons like me and my BF who ate like 6lbs of seafood in 3 days by ourselves)

Great fresh, local seafood. You can pick it up at their place on the dock, near Pizza Nova and JFAT. Open M-F 7:30 am- 12:30 pm. You can text to see the types of seafood available for purchase for the day, and you can text your order, or just stop in. Today, I got 2 lbs of their Black Cod, just caught near Long Beach ($14.95/lb) and 2 lbs of local yellowfin (ahi) ($14.95/lb). Can't wait to enjoy them!

It showcases a lot of what…read moreSan Diego has to offer with its seafood, water views and outdoor patio seating to soak in the sun. It's located right along the marina where a lot of boats go out so expect the area to be crowded and touristy. But that being said, it's also a great spot to people watch and you can bring your dog. This is a pretty casual place so you place your order inside and your number will be called once your order is ready. I was impressed with how quickly it was ready considering the large amount of orders they had. The seafood: very good selection and fresh. This visit I tried the ceviche which honestly wasn't impressive. It had too much lemon or lime and had too much filler (onions & tomatoes) and too little fish. I expected an amazing ceviche packed with different seafood. But the chips were good. Next up was the ahi tuna sashimi, so delicious and melt in your mouth. Finally for the entree, the combo plate hit the spot with fish & chips, fried shrimp and crab cake. All tasted fresh and was darn good, just a lot of fried foods. But treat yourself, right?! To conclude, I would definitely recommend for seafood in a nice outdoor setting. Just know that parking can be difficult sometimes.

Of course, most of us who live in San Diego have likely visited here frequently. I know I certainly have. Unfortunately, the experience this time was sub-par. They seem to have had much less selection than in the past. And for the first time after ordering the fried squid sandwich many times, I found it overcooked and rubbery. Hoping this visit was a one-off. An upside--I see they have a happy hour now.

Point Loma is one of those places since it has a certain charm to it. Don'tcha think!? *It's very historical and strongly tied to those who serve or have served our country. Hence the anchor logo and other nautical features you'll spot in the area. Especially since the NAVY is right there in town. *The market hosts many different food and small business vendors all in one hall. Truly a hidden gem and so glad they opened up the space to share with those business owners. *You can visit larger restaurants establishments in the very near vicinity as well. It's touristy and locals favorite hot spot vibe is all rolled into one fused place here. *Very Family and fur baby friendly! *Very close to some nice hotels as well! Hope you enjoy as much as I do! My friend and I tried three places here, and most of them were great. The wonton noodles from Slurp actually had a heaping big portion that we were struggling to finish. The platter we ordered from Asado Gaucho, while tasty, were too overcooked for our taste. The empanadas from Panana were to. die. for. If I come back, I am 100% grabbing some to go. We had asked the employee for recommendations and they were all spot on. If you have to try anything in this hall - highly recommend their empanadas!! I regret not buying more to take back home LOL.

Love grabbing fresh/seasonal fish and seafood that has been freshly caught by local fisherman to cook a yummy feast. Can't get more fresh than this! They are open every Saturday morning from 8am- 1pm or when they sell out. They also have a seafood cutting station. Pricey, but if you're looking for fresh versus the preciously frozen seafood sold at most of the SD grocery stores, this will be your goldmine.

If you do buy a whole fish and don't want to clean and gut it yourself, there is a stall at the very end of the pier that will do it for you for about $1/lb (up to $20/fish). I bought a big slab of bigeye tuna (4lbs), and some smaller (but still large) filets of ono and halibut (maybe 3 lbs each?), and 3 rock crabs (2 female,1 male -- loved that I could choose crab sex). Total cost of the fish was $76, and the crabs were $13. For that amount of fish, I think it's really great. I prepared the tuna as tataki and poke. I checked with the seller than the fish had been frozen on the fishing vessel to kill parasites so it was good to go. INSANELY delicious. If I were hosting a big party, I would absolutely go for a whole fish. The whole halibuts were about 7-14 lbs each (for $13/lb) and the whole tunas were about 20 lbs each (for $3/lb!!!) in Dec 2024.
