    Burger and a milkshake

Mississippi has some spots that are worth the drive. See the beautiful Sunflower WMA in the Delta National Forest then slide in to Chuck's Dairy Bar for a burger and a shake. These kind of places are what make 2 lane driving and destination eats one of my favorite past-times. Work brings me to the Delta but I always try to make extra time in my day to see the sites and eat the eats. Chuck's won't disappoint.

Great place to get a burger, catfish basket, or plate lunch! All the locals love it. Best fried chicken ever! Definitely worth a visit.

Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes…read more Everything was amazing. We started with a dozen tamales. They were seasoned perfectly and were delicious. Then they brought out the broiled shrimp. The sauce was so good, I could have bathed in it. It was like liquid lemon pepper. We dipped the garlic rolls into the sauce. So good. The steak was a 42-45 oz porterhouse that was the best steak I have even had. And I've been to some world famous steak restaurants. This blew Peter Lugers out of the water. The fries were fresh, hand cut and cooked perfectly, The salad was simple but one of my favorite parts of the meal. The staff was super friendly. The atmosphere was quaint and welcoming. This was far out of the way for us but so worth it.

Hell, I go to Doe's in Monroe every single time I am in Monroe. When I would profess my love for Doe's to my Mississippi friends they would always tell me: "you have to go to the Greenville location. It's the original". I figured they were right but also figured I would never be in Greenville since there are not many things to do there. But 2025 was the year that I finally made it here. We made a special stop on the way to Eureka Springs. It was everything I had hoped and I absolutely loved it. You must know that this is the original location and it is not fancy on the outside or the inside. Parking is mostly on the street and the neighborhood seems a wee bit sketchy. The building looks like an old house from the outside. Needless to say, the kids were skeptical and wondered why their dad drug them here. That continued when we walked in to the kitchen, walked through the other kitchen, and were seated in one of the rooms. One of the kids said: "I feel like I am dining at someone's house". Exactly. This place is famous! All skepticism was washed away when we got our food. A ribeye and fries for me and a fillet and fries for them to share. Both were perfectly cooked, full of flavor, and made this Doe's fan grin from ear to ear. It was a great meal I will remember forever. Was it cheap? Definitely not. For two entrees, a beer, and a tea, it was around $200 with a tip. Was it worth it to me? Hell yes. I freakin loved it. Is it worth a drive from New Orleans just to eat here? Probably not. Should you divert a road trip to eat here? Absolutely. By the way, service was exactly as you would expect. Super friendly and we were treated like regulars despite it being our first time. Also, there was a cop working outside so don't be scared.

The food has a sophisticated edge that shows real thought is put into the menu. I had kabobs on special one night, and the seasoning on the vegetables was delicious. The steak was very tender and cooked perfectly. The next time I had the ribeye. Again, great flavor and cooked just right. It's huge and a meal for two days. Service was quick and friendly and they make an honest drink at the bar. Check to see if they have live entertainment on the weekend.

There were people drinking, chatting, standing, sitting, and two bartenders trying to keep it all going. I got one's attention and she let me sit in the back room, where there are some tables, couches, a TV.... all while a live band set up in the front room. That kind of atmosphere. To her credit, the bartender kept up with me and the food arrived quickly. Appetizers are expensive, entrees are cheap, but I saw a lack of portion size. Great hushpups, which I dipped in the comeback. Good "local pond-raised catfish" but would have been better with two filets like most places provide. And more dipping sauce for everything. The slaw wasn't as great as she suggested, or as plentiful. Finally, the bar: As I said, it's kind of divey. No craft or local beers on tap. But that's not unexpected. Just forewarning you. Verdict: Come for the ambiance more than the rest, but the rest isn't bad either.

The moment I walked into Amanda's warm and inviting "watering hole," I was struck by the majestic…read morewood extending up from floor to ceiling behind the bar. Exterior looks were deceiving. I settled back with my usual corona, and they didn't hassle me for opening my own bag of chips -- a good sign. First test passed. I then ordered something off-menu... could they make me some "sweet potato fries." Not only did they say "heck yeah!" But asked me if I wanted some "brown sugar and butter" to dip them in. Wtf?? Okay! They then served me up a fantastic combo I had never tried before... Ok, so being new to teh Delta, and based on the other review mentioning "good ol' boys," I'm never sure if I'm going to walk into a place with a ... well... "caucasians-preferred" vibe. But no. Here black and white customers and staff intermingled with smiles on their faces, and I felt instantly at home. And the only "Good Ol' Boy" I met at the bar was a damned cool dude. Regarding the staff, Amanda has a big-but-warm, inviting up-front personality that makes patrons feel at ease... the cook and the other "bartendress" ("Felony Melanie") were also awesome. (A bit awestruck by Amanda's beauty, I snuck a peek at her ring finger, ... but sorry guys: this beautiful specimen appears taken. Awww, snap!) Amanda let me vape at the bar without hassle, and even handed me the TV remote so I could change the channel to my favorite Krav Maga show to watch live-action ultra-violence, always a good mix with alcohol, ya know! ;) How much would you pay for three Coronas with a generous side of limes, sweet potato fries, and hand-made-Carmel sauce? In my home town of San Diego, probably $24 to $27. Here: $13-something plus tax. Based on atmosphere, staff personalities, customer service, amazing value, and their off-the-menu treat, I'm gonna slide this one all the way to 5 stars. I know their awesomeness is gonna pay off ... and I wish they'd open a franchise in my new home town of Natchez so I could steer my hotel (StarlingsRest.com) guests there! Way to go, guys!
