My wonderful car Ava, that has served me so well for over 15 years has a chronic film or haze on the inside of the windshield. Soon after purchasing my car from the dealer I reported this to them and they responded it was most likely a result of gasses located on the dashboard finishing compounds evaporating on the interior of the windshield. Sure enough, I took her to Chuck's Auto Repair for a thorough check of the heating/cooling system. No coolant leaks or dripping & she passed the pressure test as well. Chucks auto is a great shop. Their prices are very reasonable, the quality of work is excellent, and they are quick. The employees are all friendly, oh and they also work on CHP cars. That should speak for itself. Took my gf's car to chucks to diagnose a coolant leak and the car running rough with the check engine light on. Another shop had just topped of the radiator and said all was fine. Chucks diagnosed it as a bad head gasket. They did the repair in 2 days and the car runs great now. read more

I've heard great things about this place but when you continually call them all day long for two days in a row and you can't even leave a message (as it would appear their machine is full or something) it kinda irks you. I have been taking my cars to Marty at Chuck's Auto Repair since I first moved into Napa in 1989. All the positive comments already written have also been my experience. In the last 21 years, I've raised two children in Napa and Chuck's Auto has been 'my rock' through all the ups and downs of life on four wheels: the divorce when I felt vulnerable being on my own again, when my car was stolen and stripped of stereo and wheels, when my children were learning to drive and buying 'used' cars, and when times were tough and money was thin. The shop has been there for me through all the cars that I've owned, all the cars my children have owned, my children's friend's cars and my friend's cars too- I cannot recommend this business more enthusiastically because Marty is honest, tells me the facts, lets me know what my options are and helps me to make decisions that are best for me. He is very good at what he does, knows cars like no one else, gets me the best prices for parts and is very reasonable with his labor charges. He is a mechanic's mechanic and he's as honest and fair with me as he would be if I were a family member. If there were just one word that I could use to describe the character of this business owner, that word would have to be integrity. I work all over the North Bay: San Rafael, Rohnert Park, Fairfield- and there is NO OTHER PLACE that I feel better about taking my car to than Chuck's Auto. read more

We recently had Chuck's work on our car and discovered an oil leak in the area he'd worked on. My husband took the car back to tell him the head cover was leaking oil and without even looking under the hood, he said $400 to fix it. He took no responsibility for contributing to a problem, could have cared less that he'd not done the original work correctly and had created a problem and was dismissive of my husband to boot. This is a very honest, dependable shop! They do quality work at a reasonable price, and they never do anything that your car doesn't need. I have brought all three of my cars to Chuck's ('97 Mustang Cobra, '68 Thunderbird, and '87 Toyota) over the past couple years, and I have never been dissatisfied. I took my vehicle here for a vehicle inspection, after I got a recommendation. The last time I got my oil change at the dealership, they said that the coolant holder was leaking, I needed new bolts for the arms of the wheels because they were going to be broken off and that I needed new struts. After taking my car to this place to be looked at, they said everything was good with it, nothing broken or anything just needed an oil change. I would come here again. read more

This was a great experience in getting my car serviced and the fact that the air cabin filter was changed for the first time, when all my services have been at actual dealers, amazed me. They showed me the used filter and it was horribly dirty. My car runs great, smells clean inside with A/C on, and overall it was an easy, efficient experience. The price was well below what I would have paid at the dealer and given the car's no longer under warranty, I'm glad to have found a local shop that does good work. We'll be back! read more

In my lifetime, I have heard some pretty ridiculous things come out of the mouths of some mechanics and other auto personnel. Not at Chucks Auto Repair. Marty is to the point, honest, reliable and his work is high quality. As far as I am concerned, a trustworthy and knowledgeable auto mechanic is worth their weight in gold. Also I should note, when I have to ask about car issues that I know nothing about, I get a good answer every time without being made to feel stupid for not knowing. To the person who gave a 1 star because of not being able to reach Chuck's over the phone. They don't have a receptionist to answer. Every time I go in, they are buried in one car or another. If you go in and talk to him, he will stop what he is doing. I know this can be inconvenient for someone who doesn't live in the area, but if Chucks stopped to answer phones every time someone called, the work would take twice as long to get done. read more

I have been in Napa for 30 years. Chucks is the best repair shop around. One word you don't hear when talking about Car repair shop " HONESTY" These guy do great work at a fair price. I was tired of getting ripped off at the dealers every time I took one of my trucks or SUV's in for repair. $85.00 diagnostic before anything even done Chuck's usually can fix's my trucks and SUV in HOURS not days. Marty who runs the shop, is a really nice guy . My wife commented about Marty after taking her SUV in ,saying that he listens to her when she describes the problem with her car and doesn't make her feel foolish. So, how many of you have taken your car to a mechanic and when you left, felt like you had just been taken for a ride? I know that when I have been at the car dealership service departments, that is my experience. Well, this will not happen when you take your car to Chuck's Auto Repair in Napa. Is it the most gorgeous establishment? Not really... does that matter when you are getting your car worked on? Not really. So, I am a single mom and live on a budget so getting anything done to my European car hits me hard. I was convinced that I would need new brakes based on time and miles that have passed, sounds when I drove, etc. Well, I took my Volvo to Chuck's (per my friend's referral) and informed him that I needed my driver side door fixed as well as my brakes. Requested that he please call with a quote so I can decide if I can afford to do both. Well, he called me about an hour after I dropped off the car and asked me why I thought I needed brakes. I was under the impression that I had driven enough miles since the last brake job, they sounded like they might be having issues, etc. Well, he informed me that was not the case. You have at least 45% left and I would guess at least another 6 months, he said. I was so impressed. The opportunity to make money doing something that I was convinced I needed could have been easily done and I would never know any different. Instead, he fixed my driver side door and returned my car to me by the end of the day without having unnecessary repairs made. I encourage ya'll to take your vehicle in and ask for Marty. I took my 2002 Volvo in for regular service and brake repair. I had heard about all the great service but still wanted to form my own opinion. Within about 2 hours of my car being there, i knew that I would be a customer again and again. Incredible service, easy to get a hold of, they kept all my old parts and showed me what was wrong. I actually being there and who can honestly say that about car repairs that are stressful enough? They did better work than the dealership did that I had taken my car to for almost 10 years. We couldn't be happier with Chuck's. Honest, reliable, excellent work, very fair prices...They are the definition of your trustworthy local auto shop. Our 2002 Ford Escape began losing electrical power and flashing the dashboard ABS light after an up-valley Ford dealership performed a recall service on the ABS system. The dealership told me that their maintenance work and the new problems were not related and that I needed a new battery, alternator and seat-belts. They also charged me almost $100 for the follow up visit. I immediately took the car to Chuck's for a second opinion. It took a couple of visits but they ruled out any problems with the alternator, identified that the new parts were wired incorrectly and rewired everything, and kept me fully informed of what the problems were and what my options were. What was supposed to be a "free" recall service ended up costing me a couple of hundred bucks, but I'm more than happy to pay Chuck's for their time and service. Had I let the dealership do it their way, I would have been forking over at least $1000. Chuck's has earned our loyalty we'll definitely be customers for life. read more

I am not one to write bad reviews but I am absolutely disgusted by the customer service at this establishment. After calling yesterday and speaking with a gentleman who was rather rude on the phone, I should have written this place off right then. I was told in our conversation "bring your car in tomorrow and we can work on it". You can imagine my surprise when I called today to confirm that 1:00 pm would be alright to come by (I thought I was doing the shop a favor by calling rather than showing up) and was told by what I think to be the same man from yesterday ( I say man and not gentleman because of his utter lack of manners), "Today is already over! If you wanted your vehicle worked on, you should have come in before 9 am. Have a good day!" For a future customer service tip, do not sound disgusted with a potential client on the phone when you didn't specify an appointment time and then hang up after a half ass ending statement. I am not only taking satisfaction in bringing business to another mechanic in town but am verbalizing your mistreatment to the shops I call and people I know. "Have a good day"!!! read more
