After My Own Art…read more Located on 217 acres of pristine Napa Valley land, the Di Rosa is a contemporary art museum that's been operating publicly since 1997. This museum is the personal collection of Rene & Veronica di Rosa. The Good: *Temporary exhibits rotate approximately every four months. *Complimentary umbrellas (more on that later) *A good portion of the exhibits are outdoors along their gorgeous property. *Shuttle if you don't want to or need assistance walking from building to building. *You really have to like weird shit because this place is full of it. Personally, I love it, but if you're more "serious" art person, then this probably won't be your jam. *Picnic tables on the grounds, as you're encouraged to bring food and drink to enjoy in their outdoor area. *Friendly staff The Meh: *General admission of $25 might be a touch high for an art museum. The Ugly: *Be wary when visiting during inclement weather,as there's a large part of this museum that's outdoors. So you'll probably miss out on some of it, but the free umbrellas (mentioned above) did come in handy. Conclusion: Fun art museum with some really cool pieces and doesn't take itself too seriously.

The outdoor gallery seemed so vast and too much to cover in one visit. Appreciated the shuttle ! Everyone that worked there was so knowledgeable and excited about the works. Highly recommend.

The cheese plate paired perfectly and elevated the tasting even more. The estate itself is peaceful, beautiful, and set high up on Mt. Veeder with stunning views--it's the perfect place to relax and really enjoy the moment. The wines are outstanding across the board, and the reserve pours were a real highlight. What truly sets this winery apart is the people. Alicia, the manager, was excellent--welcoming, attentive, and incredibly accommodating. Jason and another top manager also stopped by, made us feel right at home, and even treated us to extra pours of their high-quality reserve wines, which was a great touch. We will be back for another great experience if they will have us again

I can honestly say we just weren't that impressed with the wines that were presented. I was really hoping for some fireworks, but everything we sampled here was forgettable. In fact, we even left early with wine still in our glasses. The location is pretty cool -- up in the mountains of Napa - quite the long road from downtown Napa. Everything fell a bit short for me here given the prices. I've been to probably close to 100 wineries in Napa and I probably don't need to visit this one again.

However, I…read morewasn't aware that there's been a local art museum next to Chandon in Yountville since 1972 until Jamie read about the special tiki bar exhibition running until the end of this month, "Tiki Dreams: From Far Away Fantasy to Pop Culture Phenomenon". Definitely up our alley. Well, given our recent run on patronizing tiki bars here and abroad, we just had to go. We went up on a recent Saturday, and the museum was crowded with tiki aficionados. It turned out Bank of America was sponsoring an admission-free day, so we took advantage and became engulfed in what felt like a claustrophobic space that was equal parts arts & crafts fair and vintage memorabilia. There was definite entertainment value if you miss this mid-century phenomenon. There were other exhibition rooms, but we weren't made aware of them by the staff. Perusing the website, I noticed some interesting past exhibitions like "The Great California Road Trip 1962", something that appeals to my baby boomer sensibilities. Next to Chandon and close to other attractions, this might be worthy of a return visit. RELATED - Exploring north of San Francisco? The largest exhibit is in the main building on the ground floor with the admissions desk and gift shop. The tiki exhibit itself was quaint and small. Mugs, old menus, photos and history of tiki bars, one set of Witco chairs and table, plus a hand built bar by local artist Woody Miller. Interesting to see but ultimately a quick walk through maybe intended more for those looking for nostalgia. They were selling tiki merchandise and mugs at inflated prices at the gift shop. Mugs that were $150 at the original events are being marked up and sold for $230. Almost all of the gift shop merch was overpriced. The other two exhibits downstairs were small and it smelled of sulfur or sewage since they are located below the bathrooms.. Really off putting. We looked through mini masterpieces and Great California Road Trip exhibits in at most 15 minutes and left. Entry to the museum is $15 per person... We went during Bank Of America's Museum on Us which takes place every first full weekend of the month. Bring your Bank of America credit or debit card and entry is free. Luckily one of us got in for free with this promo.

The Sonoma Valley Museum of Art has two fascinating exhibits- Mexican art books (with subjects like…read moreSor Juana Ines de la Cruz&Mayan mythology) and Jack London's photography. One gets the international scope of Jack London's travels- from the leper colony in Molokai to the ravages of the Russo-Japanese War, along with the devastation of the 1906 San Francisco Earthquake (that awakened Jack&Charmian in their Glen Ellen home) They give tours, local schoolchildren contribute to the exhibits, they have a small research library- but it looks like the Museum Cafe has been replaced with a gift shop. It IS surprisingly good for a small museum. The $10 admission is worth it. Their gift shop had an amazing coffee table book about the visionary art of New Mexican artists. If you have challenges finding them, they're next to a frozen yogurt/boba spot. A peaceful, artist oasis off hectic Highway 12.

Surf Craft Art Exhibit! What's the deal?! I was in a California high school in the late 60's -…read moreso surfer stuff was a big deal: madras shirts, Beach Boys, Ventures, Dick Dale, stretch tight levi's, vans shoes, sun bleached blond hair and blue eyed blond girls in bikinis. It was with these thoughts that I went to the surf exhibit. I was disappointed. Dick Dale wasn't there, no girls in bikinis - just a silent hall with a bunch of surf boards on display. Sofie and I were given a nice overview by the docent who explained the history of the boards, how they evolved and for what use the different boards are for. The "long boards" for the big waves and the smaller ones for smaller waves. Did you know there are boards for "lefties" and boards for the rest of us? Left handed people ride the boards differently. Some board are made of solid redwood. I am partial to redwood because it is so easy to work with and so beautiful. The one on display was made from recycled wood from an old water tank. They also have a couple of very old boards from the turn of the century... and one from Africa that washed up on the beach. Those old boards looked pretty crude. Looked like they were shaped with a hatchet. Most all of the surf stuff in the gift shop is 40% off. There were 3 ukuleles hanging on the wall for sale. I thought about how nice it would be to play the ukulele for Sofie and sing her love songs... but I decided it would be wrong to deprive someone else of those ukuleles - so maybe you should get one of the ukuleles. They also have a 9' redwood longboard that I thought would be cool to have. There were several books on surfing that were there. I just looked at them and thought, "Hmmm. Someone wrote a book about surfing." Too bad there were no Dick Dale books.
