You never know what you are going to get with a neighborhood corner liquor store. 1st Grand Ave…read moreLiquor though is like the candy store for adults. It isn't a huge store so it is easy to find what you need, but it is still large enough to carry a good selection of things. The layout is also really clear and very manageable. You won't get lost for hours trying to find that one bottle of wine you love, but you may also stumble across something you never thought about. The staff here is friendly. They didn't hover and pry to know what you were looking for, but they were present enough to know that they could swoop in and help at any time. They seemed to be very friendly with some of the "regular" clientele. The prices are fair but you are paying for better quality. I wouldn't say you are going to save big bucks on your choices coming here, but you won't drain your bank account either. Don't let the outside fool you, because this place is a gem! 46/100

Knowledgeable staff, who occasionally throw shade. Like today...I go in enough to recognize folks, but not enough to be on a first name badis. Been a LONG day, picked family up from the airport after doing a LOT for other family all day. Stopped at 1st Grand for beer and wine. Brought my own bags in because: age, environment. As I head away from the wine with two carefully selected bottles in a bag, one of the staff all But accuses me of stealing. 1) Not stealing 2) Smile at customers 3) apologize after being snarky 4) I will likely Not go in again b/c not the firat time some person in there has been kind of an ass and 5) apparently, don't bring your own bags in there or be prepared to be challenged by a power hungry clerk. Who is probably, maybe, in another universe, a fine person.

Updating this shop or shoppe, ahem..they still receive five stars. At their last location they had…read moreone customer parking space in a small parking lot for other businesses. now they have none. That's on St Paul blocking street parking. There is still a great selection of quality wines and the most helpful customer service you'll ever find anywhere. I used to buy a bottle from Georgia, not the state but the republic, (they used to be part of Soviet Union). I say that because some people looked blank when I say it's from the country of Georgia..dude the U.S. state is named after this district in Europe. At any rate stop in and chat wine, check out the craft and finer beers and spirits which have expanded with this location.

(Maybe eight feet wide and twenty feet deep?) I don't know much about wine, since I get sick when I drink reds due to the sulfate, but I dropped by looking for a nice bottle of white to go with some shrimp pasta my girlfriend and I cooked up. The only person working there immediately greeted me, asked about my preferences, and recommended his three favorites bottles. I went with the one made by Ippolito 1845. No pretentiousness. No eye-rolling. Just very friendly and helpful. Not to mention, the price was reasonable. (Maybe around $20?) Other cool tidbits: -Wines are organized by country. -They carry local brands like Famiglia Meschini. -Has a surprisingly solid beer selection. I think the neighborhood has a gem in The Little Wine Shoppe!
