Wow, I'm very sorry for Kate M, but that stylist must be gone, because I've NEVER had or overheard anything like that in the couple of years I've been going! I have this annoying ability (which drives my wife nuts) to be able to follow several conversations at once, and while wating (never long) or in a chair, I've never heard anything like attitude from stylists, or unhappiness from clients (except maybe women coming in for the post-breakup hair cuts -- and that's before they see the results.) I would say everyone I've ever seen (or heard) of the crew is warm, attentive, good at reading when you want to talk, or just listen, good at giving you just the amount of guidance you want from a lot ("give me something fresh!") to a little. read more

In from out of town, went in for a trim with Tommy. I said several things like "just thin out the top a bit," "I'm fine with the overall length, and "halfway between haircuts," and showed him a picture. So how I ended up with an inch taken off everywhere and no texture or layers left, i have no idea. Then I had to ask him to thin out the top of this shortened hair, which was the main thing I asked for in the first place. I look like Pete Campbell from "Mad Men," and paid $54 (for a "trim") to do so. Worthless. read more

Disaster. I had my hair cut by one of their "highly skilled" stylists (the receptionist's exact words). After being shown a picture of what I wanted, she butchered my hair, cutting off the length that I had been working on growing all summer and leaving me with a complete mess. Turns out she just got out of beauty school and has no experience. Don't waste your time here. You might as well go to SuperCuts. It's a lot cheaper, and the cut can't be any worse. read more

I went in with hair down to my belly button and bangs. I asked for "a trim.. Take an inch at the most and clean up the bangs to get them out of my eyes". I walk out with my bangs still lifeless in my eyes and my hair was cut to the shoulders. I can't even style it. I had to cut my own bangs. I paid $65! I am so upset and I have a job interview this week. They are going to wonder why I do not look like my picture ;( boo for Chrysalis! I've been there twice and not impressed. read more

When I walked in I instantly had a feeling of, out of place, snobby and rude. I am proud they couldn't cut my hair. And they would not refer me to another shop. Well I found the perfect place. Rock paper, sizzors was the most awesome place. They worked me in gladly and treated this MS gal like she belonged. read more

All the way 5's across the board. I was always greeted warmly and offered something to drink, which I find is important. I had all of my beauty needs taken care of at Chrysalis. MICHELLE, the esthetician, is amazing. She did all of my waxing and facials. I trusted her implicitly with my waxing, including brazilians, which I got every four weeks due to my hair type. She always was careful, kept me calm and was very easy to talk to. I trusted her to tell me what my products needs were. During the time I saw Michelle, I would ask her to just choose the products I needed and that is what I used. However, if she thought I needed something that the salon's product line didn't match, she would let me know and the most inexpensive place to buy it. I hate, hate choosing beauty products. Chrysalis has a beauty product section that isn't overwhelming. They've chosen one product for makeup, one product for skin care, which I found easy to work with. TIANA, the manicurist, is wonderful. She always took her time and my manicures and pedicures looked great. People complimented me for always having perfectly-manicured red nails. I went to Chrysalis for many years. RICK, the owner and head stylist, always greeted me warmly. I had such short hair that I didn't need a hairstylist, but I would've of for sure gone to Chrysalis for it. The only reason I stopped going is that I've moved to Austin. I miss them. read more

This place use to have some really good stylists, may I say use to!!!! Wow, not sure why I came back to this salon after Rick left but I did. What a horrific experience all around. Worse cut and color ever!!!!!! It is super hard to find someone who is good in this town. I haven't had a great cut and color since the owner Dallas allerman of tete a tete le salon left back in the 90s. This town is behind in the times. I'm sure there are people out there that are good. I had my "hair" and moustache done here, on the recommendation of some friends. The first thing I noticed when I walked in was the really nice and clean setting, the very nice decor, and smiles all around. As a former businessperson I know you can always spot good management by the attitude of the employees. Everybody here seemed happy with their job, fully service-minded, and very friendly. I worked for tips myself once, and demeanor and attitude are important, but this went deeper. The owner, Rick, was there and was quite charming and confident in his product, I thought. It all proved true, as all my grooming needs were taken care of, to my satisfacttion, and I am very picky about how my moustache looks! A very cool place, good service, and good end product. I highly recommend it! Also, you will be in Santa Fe which has fabulous everything, nearby to this shop. read more

The esthetician, I think her name was Michelle, was professional, knowledgeable, and used the right kind of wax at the right temperature for my hair type. After I showed her a picture (which she never looked at again) she cut me something that looked like David Bowie in the 80's (ok I did ask for 'hip,' but come on, short/rock stary on top and long in the back?) and then when I told her to please cut that shorter, she snipped, "You know, it's really hard to do a good job when you don't know what you want half way through a haircut," and more bullshit that I don't remember, but anyway she almost made me cry and I'm not sensitive like that. Called to complain, no one returned my call. NEVER wasting my money at this place again. read more

Just got the worst haircut that I believe I have ever had. I live very far from Santa Fe and only went here bc my mom requested a salon that uses Goldwell products. My mom loved her hair btw. The guy that did hers was very nice and listened to her! But to say that I hate my hair is beyond an understatement. I loathe it. It looks mushroom like. Usually, I don't mind that much if my haircut is not perfect and it grows back. However, the stylist (and to call her that is REALLY stretching it)didn't listen to anything that I said, and instead interrupted me every time I was trying to explain what I wanted. I even brought pictures of several varying styles that she didn't even bother to look at and yet again interrupted me while I was trying to show her an idea of what I wanted. Once again instead of listening to her client she told me that my hair was too short for the short stacked bob that I wanted. My hair had been growing out from a super short pixie and was atrocious and mullety. I had also cut my bangs quite short and I had asked her to just even them up a little, and she interrupted me then to say yeah I shouldn't cut them any shorter and though she said she would, couldn't be bothered to do so . I was so infuriated . I wanted to say,first of all, lady, you aren't my personal stylist, you aren't a psychic hsirstylist, you don't know what I like nor would you shut your stupid opinion spewing mouth long enough for me to get you to understand what I like. If you knew anything about what looks good you wouldn't have given me a haircut that looks like 90's TBoz from TLC. It would even perhaps be different if it was a good haircut at least, but NO. It's all choppy, gapped up and cut duper high around my ears. WTF! And afterward she just sat around yapping like a chihuahua. I thought maybe she's super booked and is trying to hurry because she had a full schedule. Nope. She sat there for half an hour talking to the receptionist before she jaunted off to the back. No more clients while i was there. How unbelievably rude and shitty for someone to pay for a service, and have it all screwed up with total disregard for the client. If she cared what her clients thought, or her boss or making money, or dare i say wanted to do a good job it would be a different story. I have no problem paying extra money to get a quality haircut. It's unfortunate that I paid more yet could have gotten a better haircut from a shitty Supercuts or Edward Scissorhands. read more

This salon is the worst example of a salon anywhere, and is simply atrocious; the stylists are inexperienced, unprofessional, and do not listen to what you ask them to do - no matter how simple the request. The OWNER is horribly rude, and downright NASTY to female customers. AVOID THIS SALON UNDER ALL CIRCUMSTANCES. Do yourself a favor and run like your hair is on fire, no matter how desperate you are for a haircut. It's just not worth the aggravation, and being treated in the most appalling of manners by the OWNER, as well as most of the stylists. Overpriced, horrible customer service, and a nasty owner make for a very bad combination. STAY AWAY... This salon should simply shut its doors. Eventually, it will be forced to, as this is a very small town, and bad reviews travel 20X faster than good ones. I don't even understand how this salon is still in business? Santa Fe consumers will not put up this sort of unprofessional conduct, and eventually, that nasty owner will be forced to shut his doors. I hope this happens soon. In the meantime, prevent going there, as you will ultimately be extremely disappointed, and the owner will treat you like crap if you are, which you will ultimately be. STAY AWAY for your own well being. read more

I was vacationing in Santa Fe and needed to get my color done while I was there. I chose this salon because of the high end products they carry, so I knew they had to have a good reputation otherwise some of those brands won't let you sell their product. I was fortunate to be given Monique as my stylist. She is new to the area and that was probably why she was available. She was incredibly kind and welcoming. She is a very skilled colorist. She is very knowledgable about color products and knew what would be best for my hair. I knew my formula, but she made some tweaks to it and improved it! I am blonde and needed some gray coverage and it looked great. She also did a partial highlight that came out amazing. I have never seen anyone do foils so quickly, so she could do lots of fine highlights, and the angles that she placed them made my color look so natural and fabulous! I lived in NY City and have gone to some of the top stylists and Monique's skills are right up there with the best. I highly recommend Monique! read more

I also had a terrible stylist at Chrysalis. She told me she couldn't imagine being a stylist as a career. I brought her a picture of myself with a good haircut and she had no idea how to duplicate it. She kept cutting and cutting, trying to duplicate the picture. Finally, she exclaimed, "Your hair just does whatever it wants!". When the time slot was done, she announced that I was done because it was time for her next client. My hair was left in whatever state it was when the next client arrived. One of the other stylists was looking at her with horror on his face. read more

After 5 years of being a loyal client, I am very disappointed at the lack of service here. I went in for a color and was informed it would be $50. more than previously charged. They convinced me of a different color process, which I did not want or like at all - then charged me for a second process to correct it. Now I have to find a new salon to try to correct my color to what I want. I am so sorry that I didn't walk out before they started. I will never go back or recommend them to anyone. read more

I got my hair cut by Tommy 2 weeks ago , I am so very upset. I have ( HAD) thick beautiful super long hair , that was slightly layereed . I had asked him to blunt cut the ends for thickness, repeatedly over and over again,but he did not listen to me at all. He brushed my hair towards the back so I could not see and cut out big chunks, adding more layers. The result I have a thick mid section and stringy looking thin layers on the botton part of my hair . I cannot do anything with my hair now. The layers are uneven , 3 years of my hair gone and Rick the owner would not even reinburse me. He offred to "Fix" my hair, but he cannot fix it, no one can, unless you cut off all the lenght. Today after some thought and the sadness I feel over my hair I did asked for my money back . I did not raise my voice or insult anyone, when walked into the salon. Rick, the owner would not even talk to me and kicked me out of the salon. read more
