While the agent I worked with did a good job, the support staff did not. A "clerical" error…read moreoccured, they did not send the information needed to my real estate attorney when they should have. This despite their assurances they their system had many checks and balances in place. I called them several times to check that everything was moving forward and each time they assured me it was. It wasn't until I called the my attorney that I found that nothing had been done. Initially they blamed the RE attorney's staff for losing the contract (that Charter One did not send them). A promised 2 week closing is now entering its 5th week. While they finally admitted it was their fault they did nothing to truly remedy the situation. They did offer (and I accepted) to pay for the interest I would have gotten if I were to immediately invest the money from the sale. While it's a start, they would not address the time I lost and aggravation caused by their failure to do what they were supposed to. Not to say anything about the risk they created for me. We are a week beyond the contracted closing date. The buyer could at any time take action against me for breach of contract. Charter One was not concerned about that risk at all. In addition, both the agent and the head broker of the office suggested I should be OK with the RE Attorney reducing his fees as if that would take care of the issue they created. Very disappointing. I will never work with them again and would recommend you don't either.
