The precision of his work is truly remarkable. My post-operative X-rays clearly demonstrate the meticulous care and technical excellence he brings to his craft--an image truly worth a thousand words. I genuinely believe this type of surgery is both a science and an art, and Dr. Refai is a master of both. Because I am a small person, he thoughtfully designed and fitted a cage specifically for my smaller anatomy. That level of individualized surgical planning speaks volumes about his expertise, attention to detail, and commitment to achieving the best possible outcome for each patient. Equally impressive is Dr. Refai's outstanding bedside manner. He is kind, patient, reassuring, and truly listens. At every stage before and after surgery, he took time to explain, answer questions, and ensure I felt informed and confident. Dr. Myers performed partial knee Makoplasty on me in 2017…read more Started PT and my knee swelled to three times its regular size, so I couldn't start any strength conditioning. Six month post-op with Dr Myers, my quad had atrophied. More PT in-house didn't help. Finally I consulted with a Duke University Orthopedist. His X-rays showed that the Makoplasty device was put in crooked, which was why my leg was bowed and I was unable to straighten it. Dr. Myers denied it was crooked and said I was bow-legged so the device had to follow the curve of my leg. (News to me.) Fast forward SIX YEARS of living in constant pain. I finally got up the courage to have another surgery. New doctor did a full knee replacement and noted there was encapsulation in the back of my knee that was never addressed. He straightened my bowed leg, and with PT, I am close to being able to fully flex. I am frustrated and angry that I went through years of pain and deformity because of Dr. Myers. His arrogance and over confidence is a hindrance IMO, and he needs to find some humility. I hope that I'm the only one who has had this experience.

I experience chronic osteoarthritis pain which nearly cripples my physical abilities of my right arm post shoulder surgery. The activities it's taken me away from is just as bad as the physical pain. I'm a young man and thought that I could use my shoulder again to do what I like to do after surgery. His surgery ruined most of what I enjoy in life. He quickly identified that I had a rotator cuff injury, and after surgery I learned that there were several additional issues he had to repair once he was in the joint. That's something many people don't realize: you often don't know the full extent of the problem until a skilled surgeon takes a closer look. I am incredibly grateful that Dr. Burns was that surgeon. My recovery was so much easier than I expected, and for the first time in years, I am finally out of pain. That alone feels life-changing. His assistant, Jennie McCarty, was absolutely wonderful as well. She was kind, patient, and incredibly supportive throughout the entire process. I am back to work full duty now and am on my way to being fully healed. His entire staff is also very awesome. I wish I got all their names but Catherine was very empathetic as was Dr. Burns and listened to any concerns. He works with you as a team during your recovery, actually LISTENS, and is very encouraging. When dealing with orthopedic issues and something as complex as a shoulder injury, don't just settle for "doc down the street;". Dr. Burns knows exactly what to do and even trains other surgeons.
