When I first made the appointment to have my 15 year old Westie, Doodle, euthanized, I called to cancel 2 days later; I wasn't ready. They were very understanding, said they would hold the paperwork. "Call us when you're ready, we'll wait for you". I called 2 weeks later and made an appointment. They came to my apartment, met the dog, played with her a bit, and then the doctor did a brief physical. She agreed it was time but wanted make sure I was ready. In the meantime, the vet tech with her was getting things ready. (By the way, they carry what they need in tool bags so the pet doesn't get worried or scared.) The dog was given an injection to relax her. Then they placed her on my lap in my chair, which is where the dog spent a lot of time. The doctor was ready with the final "fluid", but asked again if I was sure. I said I was and she injected the final drug. The dog died on my lap in just a few minutes. The doctor listened to her heart to tell me she was gone. They gave me a few minutes with her and then wrapped her in the blanket they had placed under her before starting. They then packed up their stuff and left with the dog. I received a hand-written sympathy card a few days later. I received the ashes back today, along with a nose print and paw print, as well as a flyer on grieving the loss of my pet. This is a class act! They are so compassionate and understanding of the relationship you have with a pet. I can't thank them enough for helping me through this unhappy part of losing my buddy. If ever you find yourself in need of euthanizing a beloved pet, please call them. I would give them 10 stars if I could.

I emailed the office, unsure if it was something that needed immediate treatment, and got a quick response back letting us know it could be monitored from home. I appreciate that the standard response wasn't that we needed to come in. Some places make you come in no matter what, but it is helpful to have a vet that ease our concerns so we don't spend extra money for non-emergency appointments over small things. It really eases my anxiety as a dog mom knowing I have the Orchard Park Veterinary Medical Center nearby who will take care of my dogs in any situation.
