Not only do I love Christ Lutheran School, but I also love Christ Lutheran Church! This place helps fill my spiritual tank. Two of my three children attended Christ Lutheran from preschool through 8th grade. Both are doing fabulous academically & spiritually. I highly recommend it to anyone that asks for a school or church in the area. I see a few negative comments from previous students, but one day they'll probably look back and regret having written them. I also love the CLC youth ministry. My youngest child is still involved, and I cannot say enough good things about it. I went here as a child and the amount of favoritism needs to be fixed in the upper grades. There is a lot of favoritism towards the girls. The grades k-5 didn't have a problem with favoritism but in 6-8 it all changed. read more

When I first toured Christ Lutheran School (in 2018), I was amazed and thought to myself, "I am so thankful my children have the opportunity to go here." Not only do the facilities have a "wow factor," but more importantly, the teaching staff at Christ Lutheran School & Preschool do not only care about your child's education but also care deeply about your child's heart. Every student is known and loved here. Beginning in the preschool, they grow spiritually, emotionally, socially, physically, creatively, and intellectually and then their growth just continues exponentially on the K-8 side. My grandson has been at CLS since preschool, and he's entering 8th grade in the fall. The commitment of the Principal and Staff is extraordinary. They jumped through hoops to meet every mandate and had the school open for in-person study the entire school year 2020-2021. My children have been at CLS since preschool, and I have been immeasurably impressed with the leadership, teaching, academic rigor, and commitment to excellence shown in all that CLS does. My children have learned so much about what it means to have strong character in this world through both teaching and example at CLS. We have our 4 year old enrolled in the full time preschool program because me and my husband both work full time jobs. It means a lot to have a safe and caring environment for our daughter to grow and learn. I really appreciate that they reinforce some of the values that we try to give our child at home. For example using kinda words, and making good choices. The staff is organized and friendly and they do a awesome job of communicating with the families. We recently attended the annual sock hop dance and family event and it was so awesome to see the school community and kids gather and have a great time. read more

I have two children that attend this school and believe that the school has excellent leadership and staff. During the beginning of the Covid19 pandemic, the school was able to pivot to remote/online learning in a matter of a few days while the public schools took weeks or months to adapt. I believe that the benefits well outweigh the costs and the core Christian values the kids are taught are invaluable. Five star. read more

I went to this school in middle school and the absolutely only good thing about this school was the science teacher and the 7th grade teacher. The teachers were extremely biased. I was kicked off a basketball team for missing two practices in which were because I was ill. I also was told by my sixth grade teacher that I was being a tattletale for reporting a kid who called me a b***h and purposefully kicked me off the swing where I had a wind knocked out me. I was talked down to all of the time by other students and not one adult did anything for me. Favoritism ran high here. Could never imagine sending my kid to a school like this. read more

I graduated from here a year ago. The teachers here are great for the most part. The principal truly loves and cares for her students. The school instills Christian values and morals in their students. Some of these values I question, specifically of the 6th grade teacher....such as when he went on a mini rant about how gays are bad, or the time he made us watch a video on why listening to "Love Yourself" by Justin Bieber is sinful. Same teacher (his name is Mr. Sitze) also yelled at me for tearing up a paper (act like you're an adult!! You aren't a kid anymore!) (even though I was only in 6th grade and that had nothing to do with being an adult). Essentially the printer was very slow and once my paper printed, I realized I forgot something and tore it up. I don't see why it would be such a big deal since it only takes another minute to print and he had to wait for 20 other kids anyway, but I understand being a bit annoyed....but yelling at a student, especially for something like this, is unacceptable. I had a lot of moments with this teacher, and I could keep going, but this review doesn't need to be any longer. Favoritism is so common here it's not even funny. For example, the 7th grade teacher's son was in my class. He got so much special treatment and I'm sure that special treatment transferred over to his grades as well. He literally had access to his mom's gradebook and would go on it to check what people had, and he could've changed people's grades if he wanted to. Academics are challenging here, which is good, but there is no support system. They are simply stuck in a resource class and repeat the math they took the year before. That's all the support they get despite struggling in many other areas. So many people left the school just because they couldn't do it anymore. And there is just so much homework. I didn't mind too much because of the amount, sometimes up to 4 hours a night, but because much of my time was spent in unimportant stuff (religion, art). But most of the kids could barely handle the amount of work being given. Homework is graded very harshly. It's worth 50% of our total grade in most classes. To make it even worse, the teachers will look for almost anything to make off. For comparison, I took 3 honors courses last year in high school. I have half the amount of homework a night, and homework is only 10-15% and graded on completion My biggest issue was that they also had "incompletes", where if you forgot your assignment, don't follow directions 100% exactly, forget to do even one question, or don't have the correct materials (even if it's a homework assignment started in class and you left your book in your locker right across the hallway), you get a zero. Essentially forgetting one question drops your grade a whole letter in some cases, or, in classes like writing where there are very little assignments, it drops you to an F. The school and maybe some people reading this might argue this "prepares you for high school". As someone who plans to have taken 12 APs and 8 honors by the end of high school, let me tell you, this does NOT prepare you for high school in any shape or form. No teachers will ever be this cruel. Most teachers will only take off a point or two for forgetting some questions or not following some directions. And the meanest teachers might give half credit for late assignments, worst case scenario. All this policy does is demotivate kids after seeing their grades and hard work disappear after such a small mistake. It also adds on a ton of stress on students in middle school that translates into negativity in high school and later on in life. The stress for me was so much that the anxiety that I might not have followed directions exactly or left a paper out of my binder in my backpack still sticks with me. And, honestly, I'm not surprised I'm like this, considering that it seems like this is what the school wanted for us, to "drill it into our heads." It's essentially trying to develop a good (but not to their extent) habit through fostering a culture of fear in students' grades dropping. And the teachers seemingly decided on a whim on what constitutes an incomplete, especially subjective stuff such as what kind of not following directions was incomplete vs just points off. Like "hmm, my lunch isn't very good today, I'll drop this kid's entire average grade from an A to a B+" or "wow I found $10 today, I'll just take off a couple of points." TL;DR from my long rant: There a lot of issues (favoritism, sixth and seventh grade teachers), but it's a great school overall if you want a Christian school with a tight knit, supportive community. Academics are good, but don't send your kid here if they need extra support or can't handle large workloads and stress. read more

This is the worst school that you can possibly spend your money on. The staff are phony and the teachers are mean and rude! I especially don't recommend the 7th grade teacher, she is a awful person and should highly consider retirement from teaching. The annual tuition is outrages. I am not sure where the money goes because they are constantly asking for more. This school has left my child with a very biter taste about school and the way teachers build up a child's self esteem during a very critical time in a middle school. Our children are very fragile at this important change in their lives, and the last thing they need is a WITCH of a teacher to make such a horrible impression on my child! Both my kids attended Christ Lutheran School grades K-8. When times got tough in a bad economy, it never entered our mind to save money by leaving the school. When my kids moved on to Grossmont High School, they played sports, received A's in Honors and AP classes and have continued to maintained great character qualities that our family and the CLS family uphold. Some of the teachers have even come to my kids HS games. I like to think of the school as small town atmosphere. Craig F- hit the nail on the head!!
