When you order a taxi the staff member asks for your name and telephone number. They also establish when and where you want to be picked up and where dropped off. The staff member repeats this information to you to avoid mistakes. I have found that the taxis are always on time and they will often beep their horns to alert you of their presence. The actual cars are clean and well looked after. It is a comfortable ride. There are a couple of familiar taxi drivers who will talk to you if you wish to do so. Their manner is polite and cheery. For those of you not in the Northumberland know, it is beautiful -- but also, quite remote. At least a 30 minute coach ride from Hexham. After many hours of partying (with many hours remaining) I was feeling the extreme need to get back to the hotel for some rest. With the coach not set to leave for another 4 hours, I was in a bit of a jam. Luckily I had bookmarked Kevin D's review for Advanced Taxis before I departed our hotel in Hexham...just in case! First off, they were absolutely so friendly. We called around 745pm for a taxi, and they arrived (texting and calling on their way) by 830pm. The driver was super courteous, friendly and engaged my husband in a conversation about the native wildlife. I learned that badgers really can mangle your car due to their hard skulls (and that they often walk away unharmed!)...and also that the trip from Capheaton Hall to Hexham is quite windy and daredevlish at night! Our driver handled it like a pro and knew exactly how to get us back to the Beaumont in good shape. The trip cost around 50 quid, not cheap -- but definitely worth it. They do take cards (even paypal!), but I'm sure cash is preferred. Our driver kindly stopped off at the Barclay's in Hexham for us to use the cash point. So if you are out in the middle of nowhere Northumberland -- Advanced Taxis will get you back where you need to go, in a jif. So glad I had them in my phone!

Her train from Newcastle Central to King's Cross (her flight was from Heathrow) was at 8.30. I booked a taxi for 7.45 the night before, 45 mins being ample time to make the journey. By 8.00 the taxi was 15 mins late I had made two phone calls to head office which were met with zero sympathy and I had not had as much as a notification it was even on it way. Was there snow? No. Was there rain? Nope? Was it New Year's Eve? Nuh-uh. To be fair to the driver when the taxi arrived at 8.00 he made a spectacular effort to get us there in time. We arrived 3 mins after the train was due to leave. As luck would have it the train was 3 mins and I managed to help my girlfriend onto the train just as the guard was blowing his whistle. Sadly I did not have time to say goodbye and our final hour together was not at all a happy one due to being filled with undue panic. Not to mention that if she had missed the train she would have had no choice but to buy premium priced tickets on the next available train and seriously risked missing her flight from Heathrow to California.
