Chop Wok and Talk is a fun time. I'm more of a eater than a cook, however Dorothy made everything super easy for the parts we contributed to. I do think this experience was very worth it to those looking to duplicate this later ( she sends you the recipes) however, for those who are less experienced in the kitchen it's a fun meal but nothing beyond that. I didn't learn any "kitchen skills" there is a basic need for you to understand some tasks that I did not. I recommend this more if you truly enjoy being in the kitchen.

I did a Tuscan cooking class with my mom at Chop Wok and Talk and had a wonderful evening. My mother has been cooking for our family and holiday events for 40 years, so while she is not professionally trained, she does have a lot of personal experience and skills. We are Italian and my mom selected the Tuscan class in particular to refine some of our techniques and also acquire new ones and flavor profiles. With that being said, we expected to have some conversation with the instructor, Dorothy, and discuss the different techniques she used. Dorothy wasn't particularly interested in conversing- she was much more interested in teaching. She is extremely knowledgeable and a very talented chef, but she is a bit intimidating. Some people on here have very poor reviews of Chop Wok and Talk for this reason, but I never got the impression that she was mean or hostile. She very much wanted to teach us a lot in a short amount of time so she was just to the point - and we DID learn a lot. Dorothy was great at explaining why to use certain ingredients and pointing out the nuances in the recipes that were particularly important to get right. The space is a bit crowded for a party of 9, but it's also very homey. You feel like you're cooking in Dorothy's personal kitchen, which is really cool and adds to the experience. I overall had a really wonderful time. I learned some valuable skills, added some fantastic recipes to my collection, and enjoyed a very nice dinner in good company. I'll definitely be coming back!

"Kung pao pork" - a little different from the recipes I'm used to, but still a tasty basic stir fry in its own right

Full disclaimer, this review is for the corporate events. I would not choose to do an Asian cooking class as an individual based on my experience, but if you are looking to do a corporate event, I think Chop, Wok and Talk is a pretty good option. It's not authentic Asian which bothers me, as they are a cooking school. I wish they would caveat the menu with "Asian inspired" or "Asian fusion", since I found quite a few people had never had these dishes before (like Pho or papaya salad)... it's misleading. Nonetheless, authenticity aside, it's a pretty good, fresh way to do a work event. I've done the corporate team dinners twice now with Dorothy and her staff, at the Sigma conference center location. The dinner took about three hours and we were divided into teams, each tasked with preparing a different component of the meal. Dorothy can be quite authoritarian, but it's probably necessary given the timeline. Everything was well organized and the food, while not completely true to the flavors you would expect, was good. If you keep an open mind (and keep on sipping your wine) you can have a pretty good time!

Three of us + Greek night. We loved it! Dorothy was engaging and cooking was fun! There were 7 students overall, including one person with a walking boot, one vegan and one gluten free gal - everyone was accommodated. Aprons and towels provided, BYOB The kitchen is small: good because you can see everything (unless you're the stove person). True to the name on the door, you will Chop, Wok and Talk - another plus from the close quarters. We made panzanella salad, spanakopita, pastitsio, lamb dumplings with tzatziki sauce and baklava logs. ...and then you sit at the formal dining table and Talk some more... cooking tips, travel talk - great convo Cannot wait to go back!

I've been to this class two times now and I feel like I learn something each time I go as well as recipes I feel I can make again on my own. (I don't cook a lot of super cool foods but I can cook for myself). I would definitely say to pick a night to go based on the menu. Today we had some souther Italian and it was all pretty fabulous. I wasn't a fan of the cod wrapped in prosciutto but you could definitely use the sauce on something else like chicken. The teacher can sometimes come off as a little rough and don't take some things she says to heart. She probably means well and is just stuck in her ways.

My husband and I decided to try something new for a date night.....we enjoy eating out and trying new things so we thought a cooking class would be interesting. Well low and behold, Dorothy, the owner and teacher, offers a Date Night Couples Class. Honestly had no idea what to expect, but now after getting home I can say WOW! What a wonderful way to spend an evening out!!!!!!! So not what I expected (not that I really had a clue as to what it would be like) I can not wait to do it again! Food was fabulous, recipes were well explained and it was above all...FUN!

Attended with my wife. She cooks a lot and had a lot of funny asking Dorthy questions. I learned a lot. The food was great. Fun way to spend a couple hours and you get to eat great food. You can take part in the "cooking" about as much as you'd like. I chopped some veggies and moved the lamb around as it cooked.

To preface this review, I reached out to Toni via email provided for my class 5 days ago in an…read moreattempts to have them make this situation right before posting this review, but I have received no answer. I recently attended a couples night cooking class on January 10, 2026. This was a gift to my partner from me for his birthday, as I was hoping we could learn to cook together more efficiently as a couple. I wanted to bring it to the school's attention that this class in no way met my expectations. There was very little, if any, cooking demonstration. We were given a packet of recipes and rapid fire verbal instruction at the beginning of class. When I asked for recipe clarification, I was given instruction that did not at all match what the recipe was suggesting. The food all turned out fine for my group, but I didn't even take the recipes home with me because there were so many missing pieces I was worried I wouldn't be able to recreate it with those instructions. There was very little prep work done for us, which I could understand if there was more focus on prep cooking such as knife skills, marinating/seasoning, etc. but there wasn't. So we were scrambling around a kitchen foreign to us looking for ingredients that sometimes just weren't there; for example: brandy for our Coq A Vin. I bring this to your attention for a safety perspective as well, just telling people to "begin" and work rather independently without instruction leaves room for accidents with knifes and cutting tools as well as food safety such as reusing cutting boards that may be contaminated. These are all beginner mistakes that could be made in a cooking class that I was hyper aware of, as I quickly noticed we were not being closely enough observed for quality control. Additionally, there is a distinct lack of communication leading up to the class. No information on suggestions on where to park, a suggestion to eat something before you come to class because we didn't get to eat anything until 9pm on a Saturday night. I hope that there can be changes made in the future. I'd like to note that our instructor was very kind, otherwise this would be a one star review, but she just seemed overwhelmed and needed more help to give us the attention we all needed throughout the class. I think she is a very qualified chef, just unable to lead a large group through a complex menu.

Gaynor's School of cooking holds a special place in my heart. My wife and I did a couple's night…read morehere the day before we got engaged, and it was the perfect start to a memorable weekend. Even for a casual couple's night, Gaynor still taught me some tips and tricks that I use today in the kitchen. Recently, I have participated in the Art of Fine Cooking Series I, and currently, I am completing series II! Wow! What an incredible experience with GREAT teaching and great food! I've learned how to flambe, to braise vegetables and meats, to make crepes, to make vinaigrettes and homemade stock from chicken bones and veggie scraps, to spatchcock and roast chicken, to bake souffles and clafoutis, to broil meat, to poach seafood eggs, and different knife skills. Aliyah is the teacher, and she is phenomenal. Patient, knowledgeable, genuine, and passionate! She answers every question and gives great tips and tricks for cooking. She even asks what we want to work on and then adds recipes into the next week's lesson so we can practice. She is going to help me make an olive oil cake! Each class starts with some charcuterie and cheese and an overview of what we are making, background about techniques and ingredients, and a share out about what we made in the past week. After this, we begin the cooking. Members of the class divide and conquer the tasks, taste each other's food, and enjoy some tunes while we cook under the watchful and helpful eye of our teacher. After the cooking, the food is plated, and we feast...with some good wine! I am so grateful to have found this series! I have learned so much! It is a highlight of my week every single week.
