If I could give 100 stars I would. Chong's Tattoo Studio will forever be my go to for tattoos. Tommy as an absolutely AMAZING artist! He is friendly, professional and personable. His creative and artistic abilities are out of this world. Upon first meeting him I was completely at ease and comfortable. His shop is decorated with art he has created and extremely clean and organized. He checked on me regularly through my tattoo to make sure I was comfortable and didn't need anything. I gave him creative freedom with my tattoo and he far exceeded any expectations I could even think of having. I cannot recommend him enough to anyone looking to get a tattoo! read more

I got my first tattoo hooray!!! I was really nervous and had been debating for years and finally pulled the trigger. I called in and had my appointment set! Tommy is very friendly and personable. He shared his many stories of travels and even showed me the green and pink sands he got from Hawaii. I felt very comfortable getting my first tat here. His prices are reasonable compared to other places I have called and he has stellar reviews. Parking was easy, right in front of the shop. I was able to go through the ipad application to pick a font for my tat and 30 mins later I am adorn with the most perfect tattoo. I am very happy with the results and have been admiring how perfect it looks. Let's face it, the tattoo you get has to be "PERFECT" you should not accept anything less for something being so permanent. Give Tommy a call, you will not regret it! read more

I was searching for a reputable tattoo shop and artist in San Diego, came up on Chong's. Stopped by for a visit and consultation and Tommy was great! Down to earth, easy to talk to and share my idea with. Set up an appointment and I was impressed with his fine line work and shading skills. Here I am about 5 months later and the tattoo still looks amazing, fresh out the shop! Def will be my go-to for my next round! read more

Tommy Chong is the most stand up homie around! I can't say enough good words to describe his talent, shop and overall welcoming demeanor. I surfed yelp to find a spot to get some work done and came upon his shop, read the reviews and I was convinced. Called him up when he opened a few days ago and asked about doing a walk in. He said to come through around 1300 and boom, cool cat knocked out what I needed in a few hours. Best part of it was the convo, I've been going through some rough situations lately and the gods themselves or whatever you believe in gave him the talent and gift to be the best tattoo artist and therapist around. Can't go wrong going to him, for future reference book an appt on IG. Awesome human being! read more

I felt so comfortable right when i walked inside the shop and he's truly such a talented artist you can tell right away how passionate he is about his work. While i was getting the tattoo done i was facing the TV which was a great distraction. I will 100% have him do my next tattoo. His prices are fair and his work is flawless. Ok, I had it wrong, Tommy Chong didn't do my tattoo 8 years ago, but for sure I am happy we ended up at his place in El Cajon. I saw the precision, color and creativity of his work on two of my son's friends' arms and my boyfriend and I decided to check out his place. The studio is easy to find/park/comfortable and the artists (Tommy and Jordan) are talented and creative. Terry ended up with a rendition of the Pacific Crest Trail (he has hiked there) that incorporated the insignia with a life of its own. The final product was designed and delivered perfectly in every way. Price was reasonable too. Now I want another one!!! read more

Huge Shout Out to our new good friend and Artist, Tommy Chong. My wife and I both really wanted to get a tattoo and he took care of us. I had set up an appointment 6 weeks out at a shop next door and 2 days from my appointment they had to reschedule. I rolled into Tommy's shop told him what I wanted and 3 hours later I had a bad ass tattoo. Just a few days after that he was able to blast up the rest of my wife's hand. This dude has some sick skills and is a all around good dude. Get in and get some work before his daughter takes over!! Good looking out tommy and we will be back soon! Chris & Amber read more

I've been slacking on my review, but this place is awesome! I went in about a month ago and got two tattoos done on either arm. Tommy did an awesome job and I couldn't be happier with them! Ive gotten a few tattoos before, but I have found my new artist. I'm just saving up so I can get some more work done. Clean shop, great atmosphere and Tommy was an awesome person to talk to. I felt comfortable right off the bat. I called that day late at night and he got me in a few hours before closing and even left dinner plans he had to work on me. I am super appreciative of his work since I've been wanting to get these tattoos for a while. You won't leave here disappointed so go get some ink! Thanks Tommy! read more

this review is sooooo long overdue but not only the best place but also he's a great artist. Tommy pretty much started my whole sleeve starting with the koi fish and other small pieces here and there adding to whats already around. he takes time on his work and makes sure it looks good before anything. and it always turned out great! i get compliments every time on the work he's done on me, even after a year my tattoos still look so good. his pricing is also on point !! haven't been able to get any work done lately but sure plan on coming back! read more

I decided it was time to start working on my sleeve. Someone I used to work with recommended Tommy and I knew her tattoos looked amazing so I decided to reach out and schedule an appointment. My mother and sister came as well and we each got a tattoo. Tommy was super professional when I sent him a couple ideas of what u was thinking about and he was chill with my mom and sister showing up as well. The shop is super clean and Tommy was amazing at asking every question I had. He exceeded my expectations and I cannot wait to schedule the next appointment! After a long online research looking for a tattoo shop for me and my wife I came across Tommy's Yelp page so I started to read all the good reviews and photos of his work so I decided to stop by his shop. Tommy was very friendly on our first visit and after we explained what we was looking for, he gave us an estimate and we set up an appointment. I'm very happy with the results because I was looking for a cover up tattoo in my ankle. I had an ugly and badly done round spider web, unfortunately I didn't take a picture of before and after but it was a very ugly tattoo. I had an idea of a possible tattoo option to cover the round shape of the spider web on my ankle, I showed him my idea and Tommy gave me a better solution based on my drawing/idea, he also put some shades on top of the new tattoo to cover other part of the old tattoo I totally recommend this place, very clean shop and great customer service. read more

When I moved here I needed to find the best tattoo artist to do my watercolor phoenix that would basically be a half sleeve. This was going to be the most elaborate tattoo that I had to date and I didn't want just anybody doing it. I shopped for a long time looking for the best and I found Tommy. I read every review and looked through all of his work before I went in to meet him. He turned out to be very down to earth and understanding of what I truly wanted. I now have my beautiful phoenix on my arm. It is my absolute favorite tattoo! He's now done a total of 6 tattoos for my husband and I and we have plenty more for him to do for us. *Tommy does AMAZING lettering. It isn't his favorite thing to do, but he is literally, the BEST at it! If you are looking for a great tattoo artist, walk in and meet him. You won't be disappointed! read more

I dropped in on a Sunday for a quick consultation on a wrist tattoo. Tommy showed me some great ideas on his computer and together we agreed on a design, and since he was free, it turned into a walk-in. His prices are reasonable (shop minimum is $60, which is what I paid + tip) and he's great at chatting with you to keep your mind off the pain while he inks you. Also super chill through the whole consultation process, never pressured me into anything, gave good suggestions, all around a great guy. Pro tip: the hours he's got listed don't exactly correspond to the shop actually being open, at least on weekends. Recommend calling ahead day of to get an idea of when he'll be in. I called that Sunday morning around noon and he was hanging out with his kids. He told me he'd be in around 4:30, which he was, but to prevent an aimless trip out to El Cajon, I'd check to make sure he's there before you set out. read more

By far the best customer service i've ever had. Tommy is such a attentive person and responds to messages fast. I went to about 10 different tattoo shops but they weren't as clean and professional as his is! I felt safe here and it being my first tattoo i wanted to make sure i was at a safe location! Hes very funny, easy to talk to, and is understanding of the current health situations going on in the world right now. Would highly recommend to anyone getting a tattoo! Very reasonably priced and by far beats the prices other shops gave me!! read more
