BEWARE: Sketchy business! Unsupportive when we needed help with the nanny, then ghosted us. Don't get tempted by the "low" fees - this was the worst $ we've ever spent. When our baby was unexpectedly hospitalized, we reached out to Holly for help after the nanny she placed had only been with us for about a week. Instead of supporting us, she consistently took the nanny's side and made an already terrifying situation worse. She then refused to honor the "30-day free replacement" in her own contract, hiding behind technicalities while we were under extreme emotional and physical stress. We didn't have the capacity to argue -- our baby was in the hospital -- and she took advantage of that. No thanks to her, we still managed to keep the nanny for a short while. But when the nanny later quit, we informed Holly immediately. She never responded. No follow-up. No help. Completely ghosted us. read more

Holly helped my family in our search for a full-time nanny for our infant. As a first step, Holly came to our apartment for a two-hour consultation to help us identify what we were looking for in a caregiver and to discuss alternative childcare options. Holly had fantastic insight into what qualities we might consider looking for in a nanny given our personalities and needs. Aside from that, she gave us practical insight to better understand job basics in the market, such as hours, vacation and salary. After screening several nannies, Holly arranged in-person interviews with a handful of nannies for us. She followed up immediately after each interview to discuss our thoughts. Caveat: this review is long but I think it's important to share all the details about my experience with Holly because finding childcare is such an important and emotional decision for us all. I recommend Holly Flanders 1,000 times over. My husband and I have used all of her childcare consulting services culminating in a nanny placement that has worked out better than we could have ever expected. We are parents to an 11 month old and first reached out to Holly shortly after my maternity leave ended. Our childcare situation unexpectedly changed and we found ourselves needing to decide between daycare or a nanny. Feeling overwhelmed by the decision as well as uncertain how to navigate the Hoboken daycare landscape, we needed help from someone familiar with the area. Our first meeting with Holly was a phone consult. She is so easy to talk to and her knowledge of the local area and the industry in general - not mention her professionalism, thoroughness and attention to detail - all lend itself to instant credibility and trust. Over the course of the phone consult, she talked us through everything to consider when deciding between group care or 1:1. She never pushes one option over another. Instead, just arms you with all the information you need to make an informed decision. As a follow up to the call, she emails a complete set of reference documents outlining everything that was discussed plus a very helpful interview guide to use when visiting daycares. There are questions and considerations she includes that we wouldn't have even known to ask if it wasn't for her expertise. After exploring daycare options, we ultimately decided that we wanted to go down the nanny route. We called Holly again. This time we had an in-person meeting that focused on how to find a nanny. She probably spent at least 2 hours with us talking through every detail. She came with an enormous binder and walked us through the entire process of how to look for a nanny and hire someone. Most importantly, she really focuses on how to find a nanny that will be the right fit for your particular family needs and preferences. She helped us define criteria that's most important to our family - again, areas we may have overlooked or not considered if it wasn't for her. Her follow up documents are extensive! She provides templates and resources for writing your ad, screening candidates, interviewing them, conducting background checks and ultimately making a job offer, onboarding, and managing expectations once you hire someone. This information is invaluable! But we didn't stop there. My husband and I both have demanding jobs and we realized that we needed someone to help us with the search. Luckily, Holly also offers a placement service for families. What this means is that for a fee, she will write and post your ad (with your approval of the copy), sort through applicants, phone screen top contenders, do a first round of interviews in person, call references, write up bios on top candidates and present these options to you for interview consideration. She will also arrange a thorough background check once you're certain you've found the nanny you want to hire. She makes herself available via text, email, and phone throughout the whole process. If I had questions, concerns, anxieties, etc, I could always reach out to Holly at any time and she would promptly respond and patiently listen to anything that was on my mind. She knows what a big decision it is to bring someone into your home to care for your child and I trust her instincts explicitly. Because of how much she offers as part of this placement service, we found her fee to be 1) very reasonable; and 2) completely worth it to us. She found us the most incredible nanny. We ended up going with the first person she suggested. The woman we hired has exceeded our expectations, fits our needs to a T, and most importantly absolutely loves our son and makes us feel 100% comfortable that he's in safe and trusting hands.
