Jason Chodorow agreed to be my accountant, did an intake of personal and financial information, and then did absolutely nothing with any of it, causing delays in filing taxes and business documents. After meeting Chodorow at his office, in person, with other family members, having a full meeting with him and several follow up calls and providing all my documents- he stopped responding. I called for weeks, his receptionist would just give me the run around and say he would call back (she said she could see my file there). Nothing, no news. An important filing deadline passed and still I heard nothing, not if he had taken care of it, or if he needed anything for me. Not a word! Finally I got him on the phone nearly 2 months after I had talked to him and he said he didn't file anything, had no excuse, acknowledged he had all my documents but hadn't taken any action. I'm not sure if it was personally motivated or what, but I feel no one should take their business here. There is nothing scarier than an unreliable accountant, he shouldn't be in practice. read more

Blamed me, said I never retained him, though he ignored my emails and calls, then wished me luck while asking to take down this post. Sorry, Jason, but you shouldn't be doing this to people and wiping them out of their entire savings. You're the tax guy who should know the ins-and-outs. Prepare your taxes....YES they can definitely do that. Represent your best interests and ensure you have good information to make thoughtful and informative financial decisions.....ABSOLUTELY NOT. I was a very big fan of the firm and one of their representatives for a very long time and referred a lot of business to him over a long period however I stopped going as they WOULD HAVE cost me a lot of money had I not made the decision to go to another firm. They aren't big players in the tax arena, they are a tax prep company a bit above the guys that advertise on TV. They don't know their stuff. I am fairly certain one of the top guys is a son of the original owner and doesn't have his CPA. I would ask for credentials because it is important. read more

I went to Jason for tax prep for years until we were audited by the IRS. First thing to note is he is not a CPA. He has the lowest level of credential required for tax prep. Second is his fees are astronomical. Not only did Jason advise me to ignore the numerous letters and said he'd handled the IRS, he became non-responsive and would not return my calls or emails. He insisted he'd prepared the filings correctly and the IRS would just go away. we got more and aggressive letters and discovered Jason never sent the required docs to the IRS - as he'd told us was being handled. After seeking advice from actual CPAs and being told we were now knee deep with the IRS, we took matters into our own hands and managed a stressful audit on our own. We payed thousands in tax we did owe (he miscalculated mortgage interest, which is very straight forward) plus thousands more in penalties and interest that accrued during the time Jason (and we under his advice) ignored the IRS. After trying to work out a solution with Jason for over a year, and undergoing subsequent audits (also resulting in miscalculation by Jason and taxes owed), we sued Chodorow & Chodorow for the penalties, interest and his insanely overpriced fees -- and won in full. Bottom line, go elsewhere. He's not qualified and won't be the tax advisor you need. I hope others will take measures against him as owed. read more

The end result of my situation is that Jason ignored me long enough for the timeline to get my money back ended and now we are out over $1000! To everyone with the positive reviews I hope he continues to get it right for you the first time because he doesn't fix his mistakes! I have talked to others now who have had similar issues. Unreliable and unresponsive. Great for the first three years when all they did was our taxes. When there was an issue (small one) we couldn't get the courtesy of a reply. Multiple emails and phone calls went unreturned. Have switched to a much better firm ..and found out that Jason never sent the IRS the letters he had promised. As my business grows, my needs keep changing and Jason can provide support the way you'd hope an accountant would. He understands business needs and is able to provide services or referrals to other solid professionals. He's always relaxed, with a great smile and I just know I can count on him for his honesty and excellent service. Best news is that I've not had to crack open the bottle of whiskey he keeps on a side table for those years when you can get a bit faint-hearted.
