Beautifully crafted chocolates! Highly recommend the balsamic vinegar, lavender and minties all in dark chocolate. Fantastic!

We had several flavors of ice cream among our party of five. The flavors were all good but some…read morewere quite icy. (I suspect that can change day to day.) Also, it seemed a bit pricey. But it was tasty!

You know the movie Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (think Gene Wilder, not Johnny Depp)? This…read moreplace reminds me of the opening scene where the dude in the candy store goes all nuts singing about the candyman and throwing candy at all the kids. Simply put: This. Place. Is. Awesome. All sorts of candy bars (mostly just different varieties of chocolate), interesting "homemade" candies (like peanut butter cups and nut clusters), candy dipped apples, fresh made fudge... and on and on and on. Not to mention- it's all GOOD. Except for the stuff I didn't like, but... well, someone else must like it because it's there. They also have seasonal candy. It's October now, so they have HUGE jack-o-lantern chocolate things. I imagine near Easter they also do the traditional bunny. Thanksgiving yields chocolate turkeys. I don't know why I find this fascinating, but I do. I wish I lived in Stratford just so I could come ever every holiday to get that holiday's mascot in chocolate form. I can't imagine walking in this place and not walking out with at LEAST $15 in candy. Maybe that's not much to some, but it's a lot to me... especially for just candy. Expensive? Yes... but damn well worth it. Maybe not always in size- but what they lack in quantity is more than made up for with quality... and sometimes that's even better. If you've even got the slightest hint of a sweet tooth and find yourself in Stratford, you're doing yourself a disservice by not checking this place out. You'll also miss out on seeing the dudes who make (and pack!) the fudge during the day. Oh yeah, I went there. Really though... Go. NOW.

So glad that this lovely place is back! Before Covid we came every time we were in the area. We had…read morea tasty sandwiches, fresh scones and selection of yummy pastries. The choice of tea blends is amazing. For the high tea best to book in advance, but you can also just drop in for tea or savoury lunches. Highly recommend!!

Harry Ten Shilling is a cozy gift shop and tearoom located near the center of Shakespeare on Hwy 8…read morebetween Stratford and Kitchener. The front portion houses the gift shop with ice cream (Chapman's) & bake shop counter and the tearoom is in the back section of the building. This is a seasonal business open May-October, Wed-Sat 11am-4pm. Recently, I stopped by Harry Ten Shilling for afternoon tea on my road trip. I headed to the back (watch your step) into the quaint tearoom which has table seating with comfortable pillow seats and wooden chairs and counter seating with high wooden chairs. For food, they offer salads, soup du jour, baked French onion soup, quiche, chicken pot pie, mac n' cheese, fish & chips, specials (steak frites) and baked goods. A decent selection of black teas, green & rooibos, and herbal tisanes is offered. Tea time selections served with an individual pot of tea, starting at $13 pp. I decided on the Soup & Cream Tea ($16) soup du jour served with two scones, jam & devon cream. The pot of hot tea (I chose Rhubarb Cream) brought out first, which was a much needed hot caffeinated drink, especially after driving for a couple hours. The tray of food arrived 10 minutes afterwards, which had a hot bowl of party vegetable noodle soup (healthy and very good), 2 firm scones (including blueberry), fresh fruit & berries, cherry, cream and raspberry jam. The food was delicious and scones were firm, not too crumbly, and not too sweet tasting. After I finished my food and small pot of hot tea, I was given the bill, which came out to $18.08 before tip. The service was adequate and prompt.
