We popped in on 27th December expecting it to be quiet between the two big dates of Christmas and New Year but it was absolutely buzzing in there. Worried that we might not get we waited in a small queue at the door but only a couple of minutes later everyone was seated. I had no idea there were three stories and despite the restaurant being full the service was impeccable. Every dish was freshly made and brought to your table which made a nice difference to other serve yourself buggers we've been to before. The food portions were good but not overwhelming so you could taste multiple dishes without leaving any waste. The price was around £24 each which included a couple of soft drinks too which we couldn't believe given the amount of food we actually ate! It is a lifesaver when you want to avoid the fake Asian grocery items at Tesco and want the real stuff. They even have a great freezer section with rare fruits/vegetables and things like fresh kaffir leaf and seafood. Aside from food they also sell things like rice cookers, woks, chopsticks, etc. More recently Golden Pearl has also added a little cafe section with a menu serving mainly Thai food. They have a selection of usually 4-5 daily specials and a little seating area so you can seat and eat while reading a book or watching people walk down North Road. I would say this is definitely the best Thai food you are going to get in Durham. Sometimes some of the curries can be a bit broken, but each time I go here they seem to be getting better and better and really nailing things down.

For the money the food needed to an excellent and we weren't disappointed, it was exquisite - beautifully presented, perfectly cooked and very tasty. The mixed vegetables and straw mushrooms were cooked to perfection. A brilliant meal, but the prices may prevent us being regular visitors, which is a shame, food is rarely cooked this well!
