I was a member of Chiltern Pools gym/pool for three months and I was really pleased with it.
First of all Chiltern Pools is no modern, flash, big gym, but more of a friendly, small, cheaper gym. This suited me fine as I was a student when I joined and was looking for a cheapish gym. When I joined I paid a £10 joining fee and then £30 per month for an off-peak student membership. I think prices go up to about £45 for non-students and peak time memberships.
Memberships include use of the pool and the gym, which are next door to each other. You can access them both via the changing rooms so you can use both without having to leave the building. The swimming pool is quite big and seems nice and clean with several lifeguards on hand at all times. The pool is normally divided into different sections with maybe lengths in one and lessons in another. You get given a timetable so you can choose when to go though.
The gym is quite basic but has all the machines I would want, plus more. These include bikes, cross trainers, treadmills, weight machines, and power plates.
All the staff at the gym are really nice and quite laid back about everything-they never seem as though they're trying to sell you anything, even when you go in to join up. When I joined I was offered some personal training sessions which I presumed they were trying to sell me, but it turned out they were free. I also had a really good induction when I joined and the guy who showed me round was so helpful.
I think this is a great gym, even though it's a bit old and slightly 'shabby.' It has all the necessary equipment and a pool and staff are friendly and nice. I would still be a member if I still lived in that part of the country! read more
