There is a small visitor center with incredibly friendly staff. It is home to an aquarium, animal pets, and scat. The kind ranger told us they are planning to add some additional displays soon too, as well. There are multiple playground and shelterhouse areas, with a number of picnic tables and benches around to enjoy the views of the lake, creek, and dam. The area where the water pours out is absolutely incredible. The force of the water is neat to see, and it attracts a lot of wildlife - we saw a wide variety of birds, turkeys, herons, groundhogs (including some that hid under the car and had to be shooed along when it was time to go!). The little trail that takes you to the opening is very scenic and offers additional picnic tables and towering rocks on one side. This is well worth a visit!

I was traveling alone with a dog and they wouldn't allow a dog in the store so I had to tie my dog to a bench outside. Not a problem if I paid $10 for a fake service dog vest like others but honesty bit me here. Still a great park and a great site!

We saw lots of people fishing but no fish being caught. They have a frisbee golf course, a nice walk way around the pond and we noticed a little food house at entrance that seems to be run or supports veterans. Don't quote me on that because we didn't stop and talk to them. Lots of parking. Lots of shade and pretty relaxing area. Trash(and recycling only) bins a plenty. Quite an asset to Chillicothe. Glad we stopped in and checked it out.

There's also several walking paths and trails. If you're on the main street which is Bridge Street, it's on the west in the middle of the city. It's located along the Scioto River. There's a few things worth checking out. It has several paths around the park so it's nice to walk around. The pond is the best thing. It's located near the entrance. The park is big enough that it can be enjoyed even while there's youth sports leagues there. It has plenty for everyone. This is convenient to the downtown area and there's plenty of parking. It may not be the nicest park you've been to but it's great compared to this area. It's hard to believe a park this nice is in this city. There may be lots of things going wrong in Chillicothe but this isn't one of them.

Came to Mound City all the time as a kid, but it's probably been 25 years since my last visit…read more Hasn't changed a lot. Very nicely kept grounds, respectful care of the earthworks. Small visitor's center that explains the culture, architecture and archaeology of the earthworks- Mound City is here, but there are several other properties in the area that are included in the National Historical Park. Baby K loved the Junior Ranger brochure, and learned quite a bit from it, the rangers, the movie, and my decrepit memory. We had family to see and it was sprinkling, otherwise we would have stayed longer than an hour. Figure on several hours if you really want to explore. We just missed the big culture gathering on October 14th. Oh, well. Still a fun and educational visit. We'll be back.

When they arrived, the property was totally unmarked and the phone number went straight to voicemail. So, the end result was an hour drive from Columbus and two very disappointed boys. Not well managed and bad communication.
