I've gotta say that I do really enjoy making a visit to Chill Factor, even if the reality is usually far from the excitement of really being up a big mountain with the wind whistling through your hair as you fly down the pistes! There's a pretty decent Alpine village here with shops and bars (nothing spectacular but the Wetherspoons and Nandos will keep hunger at bay) and there's a really cool surf/ski shop selling all sorts of cool things, even if pretty expensive. The actual slope is fairly decent, but would be much more enjoyable if you were some sort of billionaire and could afford one in you back garden without a queue as every time I go it's ski for 60 seconds, queue to go back up for 10 mins and repeat! Early mornings and late nights are supposedly quietist so I think I could do with getting here at these times much more often.

I mentioned this place to one person at work, and suddenly five of us were booked in for the next day. I was a little bit cautious, as although I'm a competent skier, I was quite out of practise and my companions were Germans who'd being skiing since the age of 2! We chose an off-peak session, and there was a special offer on at the time - I think it cost us £18 each for ski hire and 2 hours on the slopes...I mean, slope. Of course this slope is no comparison to the Alps or the Rockies. But it is so much better than a dry ski slope. Believe me, I came back home with plenty of speckled bruises when I foolishly participated in snowboard lessons on one. I also prefer it to Tamworth Snow Dome and the indoor slope near Leeds due to the fact that the slope is in good condition with very little ice, the lifts were only stopped a few times in the 2 hours we were there, and there is a separate lift for beginners meaning that us pros don't have to suffer each time a rookie stacks it! The staff were much more vigilant than the chilled out ski bums at resorts and were quick to stop one of my colleagues when he attempted the small jump without a helmet (you can borrow them for free). If you're a competent skier who is going to keep moving and not spend your session on your posterior then I don't think it's necessary to rent or even bring skiwear. I wore some cargo trousers, a fleece and a pair of woolly gloves and I managed to stay warm in there. Two hours on the slope was enough for me, but I'll definitely be revisiting this place, and like Alexandra S, I'll be trying to organise a taster lesson for the boyf too!

Whilst this isn't exactly like taking a trip to the mountains, it certainly does a good job at recreating a genuine slope and is a great way to practice in between getting to the real thing. The pass is around £20 for an hour and a half which, although sounds expensive, is a hell of a lot cheaper than taking a trip to the alps and deciding you don't like skiing at all. Lessons are pretty reasonable at £60 for an hour and a half, and can be even cheaper if you buy a membership. In fact with a membership you'll get a discount of 30% across the board. Sometimes it can get a little crowded in here and you'll have trouble navigating the slope to avoid hitting skiers and snowboarders alike. This is just part and parcel of the centre being very popular and in a good location, but if you can get to the dome during the week, it's a lot more relaxed. There are other activities here like tubing and rock climbing making this dome a haven for kids and a great alternative to hanging out in malls or the streets.

    Love these chicken things!

We went in here to have a nosy around as my partner had never been before. When we got in there, pretty much the first thing I noticed was nandos! so of course, we had to go and eat there! Fantastic service as always and no huge queue to wait in! Which was an added bonus! After eating we went to have a look at the ski slope so we went up to the viewing gallery and through the bar to a little balcony, the cold hits you as soon as you open the bar doors and you automatically feel like your on a real ski slope which is pretty awesome if you ask me! There were staff everywhere so it gives you a safe feeling that they are always there keeping you safe! Will definitely be going to join in on some of the activity soon! (Once I've bought some gloves and dug out my winter coat and woollies of course!!

You know what I used to be a non believer, believe it or not!!!! Climbing? Pfft...what nonsense!!…read moreHow wrong I was, introduced to it by a friend who insisted I give it a try, bullied further into it by my ex, i did dive right into the activity pool that is climbing. To my utter surprise I found the whole experience absolutely unashamedly awesome. Lord almighty how on earth can the simple exercise of climbing a wall be so much fun, I cannot put into words. Not only does this keep you fit it also increases core body strength for all you athletes out there. As you progress up the walls it really is an incredibly relaxing, fun yet intense experience. The different colours on the walls correspond to different levels of climbers, and reflect the difficulty with which you can climb. I didn't quite manage to get the hang of all that rope knot malarky, but was much more interested in climbing rather than holstering my partner and watching them climb. It would be a massive help if you knew someone who does climb and is good at it to go with initially and learn the "ropes". It was a massive help for me, mainly because I did most of the climbing and my dear friend that accompanied me had the patience of Mother Teresa. No seriously this is an alternative to your boring normal routine, give it a try, it really is a stress buster I tell thee!!

Awesome Walls Climbing Centre is an ace way to keep fit, just five minutes from Liverpool City…read moreCentre. The climbing centre accommodates all ages and all levels of climbing experience. They have all the relevant safety equipment available to hire, including climbing shoes and harnesses. For those that don't want to fork out on hiring equipment but still want to climb, they have a bouldering room that you can scale the edges of which is great fun. They also have a few walls with huge crash mats underneath which you can shimmy up and down without a harness. For seasoned climbers they have some incredibly high walls and some that angle out so your moving across the ceiling. These look to scary and high for an amateur climber like myself. They sell a range of energy boosting snacks at very reasonable prices, and they offer Awesome Wall's members discounted climbing trips across the UK. You can walk or jog to this place in 15 minutes from the city centre, or it will take 4-5 minutes in a cab.
