While the school professes to have a parent-teacher association, the original organization was actually dissolved several years ago and rolled into a personal arm of the administrator. Furthermore, there are very few extracurricular activities, no active sports programs, and a completely lackadaisical approach to physical education. The only positive aspects of the school are its strong academics, including a curriculum grounded in Catholic Classical social teachings and the associated parish. These educational and spiritual foundations are the sole reasons this school garnered even a single star. However, the academics are overshadowed by poor leadership. I strongly do not recommend St. John Catholic Academy until they remove the current head administrator and hire a properly qualified person for the position.

I highly recommend him, and would like to emphasize his communication skills. Some instructors have the knowledge but not the ability to communicate that knowledge in an effective and useful way. You can be current but not proficient. Brian makes me proficient, which is safely and effectively, going beyond just fulfilling the legal mandates. While currency keeps a pilot legal to fly, proficiency is what keeps them alive and ensures they can safely manage complex scenarios and make good decisions.

So, instead of going to somewhere like Embry RIddle which would have taken a few years, I went to Sowell in order to get all of my flight certifications in a shorter period of time. As it turns out, I did not become a commercial pilot but as life experiences go, it was one of the best. The school is small enough that you don't get lost in the bureaucracy, but large enough to have some of the best instructors in the state. At the time, they were one of the few flight schools that could correct written exams on the premises which saves time and money. If you are thinking of making flying a career or a pass time, check this school out.
