Ballethnic Dance Company is a local performing arts group. Ballethnic is all about promoting…read moreculturally diverse and classically trained dancers. This predominately African American company performs ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, point, modern and other dance techniques. Based out of East Point, the dance studio offers classes to children, teens and adults. Summer dance camp is also available. Throughout the year the company performs at theaters around Atlanta. I actually attended one of their shows at Georgia Tech and it was well put together. Just recently they presented the Urban Nutcracker. For events and information about upcoming shows go to www.ballethnic.org.

I really think someone with a business/marketing mindset could get this studio to where it needs to be. The quality of teaching is second to none. A few teachers do need to remember that some of the dancers are truly kids doing their best but overall it is a solid place for a dance skills foundation. Original Post on 2/22/16: The concept is wonderful however the communication is horrible. As a new family to the company (my previous company Lee Harper closed), I never truly know what is going on. They should really invest in a newsletter so that people will know. I did not know at all that they had a Nutcracker production and actually went to another company's production of it. They never send notices of upcoming productions home. Randomly and inconsistently we receive half thought out emails. With the amount that the company cost, one would think that simply sending communication home would not be a problem. Also parents are not guaranteed a ticket at the performance. Their production of the Harlem Renaissance was sold out and several parents were closed out of the performance. Why not simply send one ticket home for each child? Additional ones can always be purchased. They only have class on Saturday mornings for elementary aged kids. This doesn't work for everyone. Also, parking is nonexistent . There is a lot for about 4 cars! Three stars because the potential is there for a strong business. They have the talent just not the business expertise to keep clients.

There's a beautiful playground right in front of the entrance that looked well maintained. There are also covered tables so you can sit outside and eat or do any other table top activities. They have two large gyms with bleachers on one side. They also had two activity rooms that could be set up to be used for many things such a trainings, baby shower, etc. Each of the rooms has a sink and the bathrooms are right next door. Bathrooms were also well kept. If you live in the neighborhood or need to host an event, I would suggest looking into this location.

You'd think this sort of think no longer exist they way people complain about not having any resources for their kids around summer. The complex has an outdoor pool, and play ground, basketball court and hold all sort of line dance classes, empowerment classes and yes, aqua zumba lessons. They also have volleyball, guitar lessons, and open gym at the basketball court several times a week My class was cancelled due to rain. When I went to pay the $5 drop in fee for the class the receptionist was not aware the class had been cancelled, when no one showed up near the 11am start time, I went back to the desk and the receptionist said the instructor had called and verified the class cancelled in the ten minutes I was there waiting for the class to begin and refunded me the $5. I'm for sure going back since they offer different fitness classes and most of them have a drop in rate of $5-7, some of them even give a discount for seniors citizens. A wonderful business for the neighborhood and great activities for kids.

Just do some google searching before you go so you understand how velodrome racing works, your friends will think you are a superstar if you can explain the Madison. Track racing was once wildly popular in the US and is making a bit of a comeback. It can be quite thrilling. The track is in a nice park, so even if you don't like the racing you can enjoy the park.

He replied: "East Point has a bike track?" Clearly this friend needs to visit our new n'hood soon to see why the term "bike track" is inappropriate. Yes, bikes traverse its lanes--but at a 45° angle! It's centrifugal force in action! Moreover, Utoy Creek runs through the middle of the course, and I believe that this is the only velodrome extant where "a creek runs through it." Utoy Creek was the site of a significant Civil War battle. Even though I believe the fighting took place a few miles upstream, i have to award extra bonus coolness points for that! Therefore, I'm sure you'll agree that calling this velodrome a "bike track" is far too mundane. I had big plans before moving here to actually take a class and ride on the velodrome. However, as I am still sore and exhausted from schlepping boxes and furniture, that will not be happening anytime soon. If you are feeling energized and curious to try riding the 'drome yourself, Google "Dick Lane Velodrome" to check their website for beginner lessons. Alternatively, you may simply wish to join the spectators in the concrete bleachers to catch a breeze as the bikers whiz by. It's not fancy, but something far better: a place that has survived not because developers spent vast $$$ to "brand" and rebuild it, but a venue where people dedicated to this offbeat sport compete, bond and have fun just for the love of it! There aren't enough places like this in Atlanta. Come; see; encourage the racers. They're also the ones who raise money and volunteer to keep the place going. A velodrome doesn't maintain itself, you know.
