Park has lots of potential but fall short. Natual beauty with rolling hills and trees. Peaceful but needs routine maintenance to help make it shine as a tourist spot. read more

Very beautiful park with plenty of camping spots (they do fill up quick during fair weather) and great hikes. For kids, there's the Arboretum and a splash pad near the South campground. We went during Halloween and the trick or treating event was a hit! Definitely will return next year. read more

My family has been coming to Chicot State Park for almost 10 years to celebrate our family reunions. With origins not too far from here, the park is perfect for our yearly homecoming and allows the most country and most city amongst us to enjoy ourselves. If you're an outdoorsy person, then you already know what's up with Chicot, but for city slickers, you may be thinking twice about just how one with nature you want to become. Rest assured. The best part about the park is that it delivers the best of both worlds and keeps those of us who prefer "glamping" to camping in mind. While you totally have the option to rough it at one of their numerous campsites, they also offer 15 deluxe, 2 bedroom cabins complete with full bathroom and kitchen (this is where the fam posts up, lol). Since we've been coming for a decade we've seen a few amenities come and go, but overall it's a well maintained property with lots of activity options. There are hiking trails, boat launches, canoes for rent, a playground, splash pad, fishing piers, and an arboretum. We always see lots of boats on the water, so if you're into fishing it seems like a really popular destination. Outside of the cabins and camping sites, there are also group lodging options that give sleep away camp/retreat vibes. We typically book the group camp for our daily activities since there's so many of us, and it has a dining hall, amphitheater, and a pool. Now keep in mind, that while there's running water and A/C, you are still in the wilderness and we're sharing and borrowing the space from the critters that live there. You may see a raccoon or two or a gator in the water. All in all, we always have a good time here and would totally recommend for a weekend getaway. It's about 2.5-3 hours from the city, but you can stop for some boudin at Billy's or cracklins from Andre's along the way to make the drive go by quicker. read more

This is a must see! The park is clean and really well maintained. The lake is easily accessible by canoe, rentals are available. This was the highlight of our trip. I also want to add the staff was awesome, from the front desk to the park rangers! read more

They aren't the prettiest woods in Louisiana, but still fun. The campground can get quite humid and there is very little wind because of the tall and thick forest. We stayed the night in a tent and at night there were maybe a few mosquitoes and we saw lots of raccoons. The campgrounds also have electrical power, and paved, hilly roads that are fun to ride bikes on. The campground itself is very nice. They have a section of cement where water comes out of different apparatuses and it's great for kids or for cooling off. There's also a decently sized pool. There's a very large fishing peer and a lot of water to fish from a boat. There are canoe rentals and also a place to dock your own boat (motor/kayak/canoe). The water is quite swampy and has alligators and leeches, so I highly suggest not falling in. However, it's very beautiful, especially paddling through the little cypress forests in the middle of the lake. The lakefront cabins are top notch. They're very roomy and comfortable, and just... top notch. read more

Beautiful place to camp! Only problem was the horse flies... We will return for sure during the winter.

Just went tent camping here last weekend (10/22) and it was nice overall. We did not make a reservation beforehand so we drove around the campgrounds to pick a site. The south campground is closer to the entrance of the park and seemed to have more foliage cover. At the north campsite, it was more open and had more RVs than tents. If you're tent camping here I recommend making a reservation in the south campground. Our campsite was #86. It was decently private and large enough to set up our 9'x7' tent on flat ground. Only complaint is that the grill was broken, but the fire pit was functional. There was a lot of wildlife including deer (fawns too very cute), armadillos, spoonbills, herons, and other waterfowl. Unfortunately, the lake has been closed because it's very low. But I will be returning to this park in the future. read more

Great park, several of us camped in the South Loop. Nice quite park with plenty of bike riding. Plenty of spacious sites, some are close though. Patio decks where the elevation changes within the site. read more

Very nice park. Wireless internet. Lots of mosquitoes. Be prepared. They probably ate the gators... we didn't see a single one. Our camp hosts were wonderful. We had a mixup with our site and the helped us locate a new site and even took care of the reservation call. Couldn't have been happier with them. read more

We stayed this week for Thanksgiving. We used sites 8 & 9 which would have been perfect because they are close to one of the two bathhouses but it was under construction which was no wherein the park site nor was that disclosed when we called to confirm all bathhouses were open prior to booking. We were tent camping so having to walk over 1000ft to the other bathhouses was not fun. Also, that facility was is dire need of repair itself. It was not well cleaned or maintained. When taking a shower there is no where to put your stuff in the stall with you, not hooks either. The men's room was one large communal shower area. We left early due to poor drainage at our sites as well. While the price $28/night was reasonable it was not ok given the lack of maintenance the park needs. The kids areas seem very nice and the splash pad area seem very new. I would recommend for day use only or self contained RV's. read more

The first time I visited this park I fell in love but this past weekend well lets just say that a lot has changed in a year. The North Campsite is in bad need of some grooming. Its not taken care of at all. Dead trees are standing over RV's and Campers, how unsafe is that?!?! The shower, restroom area and laundry room was down right nasty. The floors were not sweep the 5 days we were there. Also, there was only one working washing machine available. There are cats all over the place. The park hosts portable holding tank was spilling over the ground for days and wasn't going to empty until it was brought to his attention by another camper. And to top it all off the splash pad wasn't working. We'll definitely find another place to spend our family time in the future. read more

Quiet campground, lots of shade plus lots of Mosquitos so bring repellant! North campground has newer shower/restrooms and most rv sites are level. South campground is much more hilly and have older restroom facilities. New splash pad available for the kids to cool off closer to south campground. read more

They are open 365 days a year! What a beautiful park. Hiking, canoeing, fishing, and camping... Well they have more but that's what we came for. Some of the spots in the south campground have little decks which is a really nice touch. We have a tiny 19' camper so we had no issues, some of the spots are HUGE and some are kinda small. Reserve America is a great app and you can book your sites for this park. Love this park! read more

Very pretty park. Dense foliage. Wildlife everywhere. Beautiful cypress in lake. Wonderful cabins overlooking lake. Campsites to fit most needs. Usual need for skeeter repellant/killer so you can play nice! Rentals avaliable. Great pier shooting out on water. Just a wonderful view read more

WAAAY over-priced!! And the host was extremely rude. They charge $22 to camp during the summer PLUS they have the nerve to charge an extra $6 "transaction fee" for a whopping $28 just to smack a cloud of mosquitos all day and night. NOT recommended. Get a hotel instead. read more

I give them two stars for the abundant wildlife running around such as deer and armadillos. As far as the quality of the roads and RV spots I give them minus infinity stars. Could not even park in our assigned spot, road too narrow and too many obstacles next to the road to maneuver my 19 ft trailer into the spot. Mosquitos almost carried me away. Would not go back if you paid me. read more

Nice park. We will return. The 3 stars rating is because of the poor dump station on the North side (no water pressure! !!) We did find a much better one on the south side. The campgrounds on the South side seemed much nicer & a lot more level. We were on the North side. The fishing was GREAT! Pet friendly! We took a quick look at the cabins before we left & they are right on the water! Nice inside. We enjoyed our stay. read more

We went there for the first time this past Saturday, 9/16/17, and were very excited to experience nature here. We saw two separate families of deer, heard many species of birds, perhaps even heard native ghosts chanting. What makes us not want to go back is the rude staff. The person at main entrance window was chillier than a dead person. She barely spoke a word to us and made us feel unwelcome. I called Chicot State Park today to find out about their camping and lodging. The person whom answered gave me a similar feeling; acted like I was wasting her time. When I thanked her, she did not respond. I paused then realized she doesn't care, so I said 'bye' and received a reluctant short 'bye' from her. Our conversation lasted 38 seconds. My conclusion is these people hate their jobs as public servants or they have low I.Q.s. It's too bad, because we wanted to go back, but now feel we can not trust the staff there. They seem prejudiced. Sorry to make their staff deal with interested people. read more
