Some staff members saw it happening but did not stop it. They did not stop the discrimination against transgender people. The academic rigor that Notre Dame provided also came with fun and challenging athletic and arts opportunities. We also loved how the school supports specials: students have a different teacher for music, fine arts, and physical education. Further, there is a fabulous after school theatre program run by parents who have passional and commitment to the theatrical arts. The hot lunch program is delicious and nutritious. We especially appreciated the upper elementary and junior high field trips to interesting places including: the Balclutha ship trip (5th), the Monterrey Bay (7th), San Francisco (6th), and Ashland theatre field trip in 8th grade. When we were there, parents also organized a Washington D.C. trip. The choir and music opportunities were embedded in the school program and classes, and all students learn the fundamentals of music. The proximity to the university also provided the students with enriched programs and activities such as the science lab just a hop, skip and a jump away. Notre Dame is a traditional looking school that values respect and community service, but teachers also bring the most relevant and research-backed best practices to the classrooms as well. One other aspect is that my children, during those turbulent junior high years, were not just around peers who they had grown up with, but were able to be role models and teachers for the younger students, as Mass buddies and teacher aides. I feel that the TK-8 structure keeps junior high students a little more innocent then massing all of the same-aged kids together at once, like the other junior highs in town. The financial investment is just that: an investment in our children. Well worth every penny.

My younger son will graduate in the Fall of 2011, and walk across the stage to receive his high school diploma in June 2012 while attending his 1st semester of Butte College. Yay! I am acquainted with many in the school district and I will say we have a great team of administrators, teachers, paraprofessionals, and staff educating our children, teens, and young adults! I have never had a problem I was not able to work out with my son's team of staff. We are a team, and when parents and staff focus on priorities, which are our students, that equals success! Failure is not an option. Just as there are problems sometimes at home, sometimes problems happen at school. But as a team, we can work together:) ...It has been a long road, and I am so very thankful for my school district, and very proud of my sons! Sometimes parents are quick to complain and want to blame the school district for a lot, but unless you volunteer & help your child's school and take your job seriously as a parent or guardian, please do not complain! It is OUR job to make sure our children are succeeding, not the school district's. We are a TEAM! The school cannot do it alone with lazy parents, they need your involvement. Please get more involved in your child's education. There is great support from the teachers, and everyone is so welcoming and kind, no wonder my daughter no longer suffers from school anxiety like she used to in public school. They help her to reach her full potential, according to her individual needs/special circumstances, and without the unnecessary stress and unhealthy pressure that is common in many schools. So my daughter can finally have caring one-on-one support when needed but they also provide the flexibility that our family needs for her to be able to work virtually. This is her second year here and it is going so well. When I was in middle school and high school, I went to a few different independent/home studies schools. My daughter also attended one in Orange County before we moved to Chico. I did research on the Core program offered in Chico as well before deciding on Pivot. Out of all these independent studies/home schools - Pivot is my favorite by far, they really nailed it, and my daughter is happy! We are so grateful to have found it!
