Staff is always polite and attentive. When I see my pcp I'm given a pill. When I see the fine people here I'm given a solution.

It seems somewhat surprising that a healthcare professional who has been in business in Chico for…read moreover 30 years has no reviews. Not sure why this is. Richard Baume has been a California licensed acupuncturist since 1981 and also states he is licensed in Japan. Initial appointment is $60 and follow-up appointments $45. Some healthcare plans cover acupuncture, typically with a copay and often requiring a recommendation by a licensed physician. Mr. Baume appears to have a practice with many patients. So same day or next day appointments may not be available. His office hours are Monday through Thursday 8:30am to 5:00pm with lunch noon to 2pm. Mr. Baume uses very small needles so any discomfort is almost none existent. He also does what seems like a pulse taking diagnosis involving the electrical or energy systems that is described as part of "traditional acupuncture." In our case, each treatment took at most 10 minutes. We went for a neuro-muscular problem at the suggestion of a friend. We found Mr. Baume to be friendly but not particularly clear about how his form of acupuncture works or how many treatments are likely to be needed. His office has a brochure on his form of acupuncture that is available without charge and there is also information he provides on yelp. After weekly treatments for several weeks, the problem seemed to improve. But since the condition was not acute or recurring it is unclear if normal exercise and care resulted in improvement or if the acupuncture was the key factor. After each treatment we did not notice any decrease in muscle discomfort or change in the muscular condition, either immediately or after several hours or days. Our friends have been going to Mr. Baume for years and it is not clear if this is because it provides temporary pain relief or some other benefit. We would suggest that each person consider this and other local practitioners and determine if after a reasonable, or affordable number of treatments the condition improves. It also might be advisable to review the evidence for acupuncture in relation to specific conditions found on reliable medical sites such as the Mayo Clinic, National Institutes of Health or WebMD.

I would be very cautious booking here. I clearly told the therapist more than once to stay away…read morefrom my spine area. I had to tell her three times in total before asking her to do legs only. Because of a lack of understanding of english I would suggest other therapists. Additionally she clearly wasn't an experienced therapist by the way she pushed on the spine multiple times. This has been the case recently with no regular therapist anymore. Always cycling new faces in and out. I was told by the owner this therapist is already out??? I experienced pain afterwards. I was told Wendy the owner was in China at the time so the manager Michelle gave me a piece of paper for a free massage with her signature on it. I did not want to pay for the poor and painful massage but I was told I could get a free massage with Wendy and would be able to talk with her about my experience when she got back. When I finally got to speak with Wendy, she was dismissive and put the blame on me. I was told it was my responsibility to end the session even though I had already communicated my concerns more than two times with a verbal understanding from the therapist. She stated... "it's a Chinese massage they don't speak or understand English, you should have got up and talked to the manager." She actually expected me to get up an hour into the massage get dressed and go talk to the manager about a communication problem??? I was told multiple times over the years that they have enough communication to understand all they needed for massage related questions. It wasn't a conversation I was trying to have. Very simple to understand, NO SPINE PLEASE! Then she hung up on me. I called back thinking it was a mistake and her husband Don stated she didn't understand me and didn't want to talk any more. The nerve of this person. He was just the same as Wendy. Dismissive, rude and not willing to work it out. I tried .t best to talk to this establishments owner and work this out. This is what happened. I have been here many times and I am familiar with Wendy. To be treated this way really says something about her and the way she handles her business and complaits brought to her. She is not honorable or genuine. She showed no concern or remorse for my experience or pain. Her willingness to dissmiss and potentially lose a customer of over 8 years for asking her to honor the free massge her manager gave me, and help me with pain I still was experiencing spoke volumes about her true nature. Chose wisely. There are many more professional and consistent options in Chico.
