I love coming here and I love Memphis for helping revive it back in the day, kind of recently!…read more Overton Square has had its share of ups and downs over the years and has seen a lot of places come and go. Not many, if any original remain. Billy Joel, The Beatles, and Wang Chung played at Lafayettes long ago, now they are about to close again it seems. Hell, there was a TGIF Fridays here back in the 1800's when Memphis was a saloon town. No one could get past the river for years, so they were just kind of stuck. That is how the Bass Pro Shop Pyramid was built. They were going to try and jump the river by chariot from there to go further west. Great success. Look at California now! All lit up! Weee I am so glad to still have the diversity of shops to still choose from in this block. You can get just about anything on foot around here. In the daylight, at least. Fish. Creole. Cajun. Beer. Candy. Sandwiches. Bacon on a clothes pin. Table side guac. Tacos. Booze. Pizza. Oysters. Bars. Hiking gear. Second Line and Swamp Bar. Ballet. Art. Local theater. Alternate medicines. Incense. Sky bars. Hotels. Hair dos. I bet you can even get cocaine for the low if you ask the right folks. I love Memphis so much. Eat. Drink. Shop. Be Merry. Tip your wait staff. Have a good time in the 901! Paul Revere didn't ride through here for nothing gang. '25 - 6/111

In 1927, this was a Sears Distribution Center…read more Now it's called the Crosstown Concourse! It's a lively community center. It's got housing, business, entertainment, and even the medical facilities that make you well. This was the retail industry giant in its day! When you ordered something from Sears, it mailed from here in Memphis,Tennessee. Now in 1993 it closed. Then after two decades of decay, a visionary stepped in and took over. The building became a living space. A time capsule to the past, but livable for the present. It gave the building a unique future. The building was sick, but now it's just beautiful. The exposed brick walls can be seen and overlap the new safety features to make it have the original design and feel. The interior of this building has a 425 seat theater. That's how large this building is. Why not make it housing, arts center, and all the inclusive space that you would need for your social space and beyond. When in Memphis, Tennessee they are keeping the memories of the past still alive for all to see and remember!

There is always something to do at Crosstown! Very fun, and lots of neat businesses to check out…read moreinside. I love their art galleries, if they are open (limited hours). They recently changed their parking system and now have cameras that take your license plate, and it is no longer free unless you are visiting a specific business after 6pm, which is the reason they get 4 stars, and not 5. They have some neat events and it is a cool place for kids to explore during the day, especially when it is hot outside. They got everything from housing, to dining, to entertainment, to fitness/wellness. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area!
