We were blessed with perfect sunny skies and temps around 68-70 degrees the whole time. Our small group took up the one back corner of the boat and had a great time. The boat took us out through the lock into the harbor and then out around the breakwater into the open lake, around the lighthouse and then back through the lock (about an hour) to a nice cruise down river (30 mins). We turned around where the main branches come together at a Y. Along the way we learned about the history of the City, the great fire, why the lock exists, some local neighborhood history, reverse flow/pollution of the river, lots of building info/architecture new and old and about the lake. The lock and lake part of the trip was fun for the kids. I would recommend this type of tour if you have children so it keeps them a little entertained instead of hearing about buildings for 90 mins. The bathroom on board was clean. The bar area downstairs looked good, but we didn't drink or buy snacks. We walked from our hotel so I can't help you with parking. It's a couple flights of steps down to get to the loading area for the boat and the same steps back up to street level when you leave the boat. Last thing, when we got off our boat the lines for all the boat companies were long. If you hate lines, get the boat tour done early!! Thanks guys!

I've heard a lot of good things about the Chicago Architecture Boat Tour and it was at the top of…read moremy activity to-do list for this trip. I was in between booking Wendella Tours & Cruises, Tours & Boats, First Lady, and Shoreline Sightseeing, but ultimately went with Wendella because they were the only company that offered a sunset time slot and date that worked for my availability and that week's weather forecast. We arrived to the Wendella dock 45 minutes early board as soon as we could and secure seats on the top deck for the best views and so we could hear the tour guide clearly. There weren't really clear instructions provided on how to get there and it was pretty easy to get lost for folks not familiar with the area, which I'm assuming are most since this is clearly a tourist attraction. We came in with high expectations based on everyone else's reviews and left wondering if we would've been better off watching a YouTube video at home instead. The overall tour experience was pretty low energy and felt lackluster. I get that humor is subjective, but our tour guide just didn't really even feel like he was putting in actual effort to educate us. After awhile, it kind of just felt like unhelpful to tune in and I wish it was a silent/pre-recorded tour experience instead. It was nice to see the architecture itself and we wouldn't have had access to angles and views of the buildings otherwise, but it felt like a casual joyride on a friend's boat rather than an actual sightseeing tour that we were paying a professional tour guide for access to. We purchased this deal through Groupon because of our timing circumstances, but if you can avoid it, my research said that booking your Chicago architecture boat tour with First Lady is the way to go. Would've done it myself if they had a later time slot!

I cannot say enough about the experience! So much fun! The Catamaran boat is nicer than I was expecting. There is a bathroom and indoor cabin area to relax if you get too hot in the sun and don't want to cool off with a swim. The captain and crew took care of us the whole time. They have a giant cooler filled with ice and packed the cooler with our goodies so we could relax. They then waited on us, putting on our music, bringing us our drink requests and snacks. That part was so luxurious and absolutely unexpected! We had too many people to fit on one boat so we rented the Monohull as well and the experience was seamless. They made sure the group was together as much as possible. We boarded the boats while the boats were parked next to each other, then both sailed to the playpen and tied up together. We were allowed to hop between the boats so that the whole crew could mingle. It was perfect! The Monohull is also a very nice boat with room for 6 people to sit comfortably in the back or on the front to sunbath. I highly recommend! The only thing I regret is not booking this for a longer time slot.
