Last time I went here they told me I had two cavities that needed filling. I didn't quite believe them because I've never had a cavity in my 30 years and previously I had felt they were pushy/salesy about things I didn't need. I went to my childhood dentist, whom I trust, recently and they said there were no cavities. So that essentially solidified my theory that this office is trying to turn a profit. Good work. Nice staff. Lots of $$$! Last Memorial Day weekend I went looking for somewhere to go for a raging toothache. I called 5 places. This was the only place that responded and squeezed me in as soon as they opened. I suspected high prices when they gave me a tour of their attractive offices and gave me a free water bottle with their logo. I ended up needing an extraction and bone graft in lieu of a future implant. I didn't get any cost up front and was charged $1085. So be it. Even though I had two dental policies, I was told I had to pay when services are rendered. Thank you Visa. Three phone calls and three months later I'm still waiting for some pittance to be reimbursed. I was told the upcoming implant would cost $3500. But there's more! Last week, I had the same problem, different, but same size tooth. I went to First Family Dental on Irving Park and got EXACTLY the same procedure for $480. Doc was super gentle, nice and gave me the remote for the TV. They told me the implant would cost $2000. Their offices are not as fancy, but they're acceptable and clean. Booked a teeth cleaning appointment here after I hadn't been to the dentist in two years and neglected my dental hygiene for around 10 years. I have gum disease so my gums like to bleed and are extremely sensitive. Let me say this was, by far the best dental experience I've ever had. Everyone here is extremely friendly and professional and value your comfort and experience over anything else. They eased my anxieties and answered my questions honestly. They gave me a numbing agent free of charge and asked continually if I was doing okay/feeling any pain. My daughter developed sudden dental pain, facial swelling and low grade fever the night before at the site of a molar crown that had been placed 10 years prior. My 18 year old's usual dentist could not see her until the next day. However--I called Chicago Smile Design and they had my kid in a dental chair, digital X-rays displayed on a monitor and a full plan of care explained to me 15 minutes after we walked through the door. Dr Tomaselli used local anesthetic, great bedside manner and confidence--and had my kid pain free before I'd completed all of the paperwork. Seriously. Expected billing and charges were explained thoroughly by informed staff prior to any major work done. COVID protocol was followed. Support staff were friendly and professional. Dr Tomaselli explained in detail all that had been done during the visit and expectations regarding pain control, recovery and necessary followup. I was about to write an entire paragraph here about how the place cares about their patients. I have been a patient here for about 6 years. I met Dr. Tomaselli when he came to the marketing firm that I worked at and was seeking some marketing services. I decided to go to him and see what he was like. Totally unexpected, he did a $400 piece of work for free. I was shocked. There was no reason for his generosity since we were trying to win HIS business, not the other way around. It struck me and I just kept going to him. Aside from regular check ups and cleanings, he has repaired 2 major issues and the work has been virtually painless and very good quality. He was willing to compromise on the fee for a crown because at that time, I didn't have dental insurance. Basically Dr. Tomaselli has always been flexible and still surprises me with random reductions in price. Their office staff is always professional as well as flexible. And they seem to stick around for years so I have to assume he treats his staff well. I had the same hygienist for most of the 6 years and she recently left, apparently just needing a change of scenery (understandable). The woman who works on me now seems equally professional and good as far as her quality. The drive to his office is a little far from where I live now but I still continue to go. (please note: I moved from Chicago to the LA area hence the location difference). Let's start with a splint, arguably needed to correct nightly grinding and save against TMJ. Arguably, it worked. Then being oversold on services, such as capping two molars otherwise these teeth would be "in danger" due to weakening from the years of grinding. Mind you these, looking back on it, were two healthy teeth that were destroyed: Two caps, thousands of dollars. Then two root canals mined on the same two teeth as they never really healed. Thousands more. (which I had to pay for) Constant pain and couldn't chew on left side of mouth for a year. Within a year, one cap fell off and swallowed it in my sleep. Within six months after that, the next cap came loose during a meal and I chewed on it (PAINFUL and SHARP). Lesson learned, second opinions always. Maybe there is also a specific lesson or two to be learned from this review. One is, STAY AWAY. read more

Very "state-of-the-art" place. The chrome gleams. Their teeth are blinding, which I guess is a good thing at a dentist office. But, WAYYYYYY overpriced. They will try to sell you a ton of things trying to convince you it is absolutely necessary. I got a second opinion, not the case. I have excellent dental insurance, and they wouldn't even cover 100% on some of the procedures because the prices were so high. I just felt like I was in a used car lot, not a dentist office. I had my first and last appointment at CSD in early February. Since I am new to my job and our benefits package, I asked a colleague for a referral for a dentist that was in our network. First impression was that the facility was really nice...almost too nice. The front desk manager was nice was a bit over dressed for a dental office - looked like she was going clubbing. She told me that they need to have my credit card on file so they can bill me for procedures not covered. Fine with me...this was a cleaning so it is covered. If I have a cavity then they can charge my card no problem. The hygienists and medical assistants wear track suits which was a little too trendy for me. I saw Dr. Tomaselli who was a gregarious person who was quick with the up-selling of services. He told me that my mouth was "boring" because I didn't need anything done to it (like implants or Invisalign, I assume). I took that to mean they wouldn't be getting much money out of me. The appointment was really long and the hygienist, who was very nice, did speak a bit too much. I was very concerned about the parking meter which I had communicated but didn't seem to matter. So, whatever, I left and it was fine. Then I got the email from the office manager stating that they would be charging my credit card $280 for a cleaning! Based on her explanation they aren't a Delta Dental provider but they accept their reimbursements but then charge the patient for the balance. According to Delta our cleainings should be covered for in-network providers. According to the office manager my insurance is bad so that's why I have to pay so much. So, I asked my colleague about this since she has been going there for years. She forwarded me an email from them saying that they became an In-Network provider last summer so this should be covered. This prompted her to look into her bills because she said that she never paid for cleanings. Wait! She was and didn't know it. They were ROLLING THE COST OF HER CLEANINGS INTO HER INVISALIGN PAYMENT PLAN. They always told her that her cleanings were covered, too. This all being said, I fought back and they ended up crediting my card for the $280 but not without damaging their reputation in my eyes. I have never dealt with a dentist like this before and never would've gone there had I known they weren't technically in-network. I don't need a trendy dentist with all the bells and whistles, I just want good quality dental care without having to make the equivalent of a car payment every time. read more

Unfortunately this relationship took a turn for the worse. I agree with Crystal Y (who also gave one star) STAY FAR FAR AWAY!! If I could give negative stars, I would. Not only are they illegally advertising that they are IN NETWORK with Delta Dental PPO in their newsletters, the little girls at the front desk have no idea what they are talking about. Luckily they provided me with enough information to begin my court case. And Delta Dental has never been so interested in my documentation. During a bonding experience, without asking me, the dentist put bonding on another tooth. To my surprise I owed $300 for something that I was not even there for. I found out when I walked up to the front desk. It was funny because the more I had this girl email me all the illegal details of their practice, it wasn't until I said I was reporting them and pressing charges that the Dr. decided to call, text, email, call, call and call again. I recommended a friend of mine to the practice, she has my same insurance. The Dr. told her her 'mouth was boring.' They also charged her $280 for a routine cleaning. And that is where it all started. I never realized they were just 'adding' my 6 mo cleaning fees and x-rays into my Invisalign payments. (which are 100% covered wiht Delta Dental PPO, which they said they accepted) To top it all off, the bonding I got on my canine 5 months ago, just broke off in the middle of the night. I went to a trustworthy dentist to get it fixed and funny - they charge 1/2 the price for a veneer at their practice than what they charged me out of pocket at Chicago Smile Design. Take it from me - you don't want to get involved. They are rude, unprofessional and very unknowledgeable when it came to dental insurance. It looks like Crystal had a similar issue with that. All they care about is money. They don't care about your health or dental needs unless you are going to dish out hundreds (or in my case thousands) of dollars. _______________________________________________________________ 5 Stars posted a year or so ago.... I am seriously giving 5 STARS to a DENTIST. That in and of itself should tell you this place is awesome. I came here to get my Invisalign done and also to have my wisdom teeth taken out - OUCH! Less than two weeks after the extraction (all four taken out, two of them super impacted) I am a happy camper. In fact, the same day I woke up from my surgery I felt surprisingly okay. I've barely had to use my painkillers and Dr. Tomaselli himself has contacted me multiple times to make sure I'm doing okay. Everyone who talks to me and hears about my experience, especially after I explain how impacted my two bottom wisdom teeth were, looks at me like I've grown a third head when I respond to the "did it hurt" and "did you swell up" questions with a "not really." Not only is Dr. T a great dentist (as is Dr. De la Cruz, I've seen both), but everyone else in the office is great, too. Always friendly and seem happy to see you, which I know has got to be hard in a dentist's office, a place where, let's be honest, most customers are not in a good mood when they have to be there. The staff is mostly (very pretty!) ladies who are sweet and attentive. The girl who did my cleaning didn't even give me the usual "you're not flossing, I can tell!" lecture that I get at most dentist's offices, which was quite a relief since most places don't seem to get that I'm a grown-up who's coming there for a service that shouldn't involve chastising me like a 5-yr-old. Summary: I love this place. LOVE it. I mean, I LOVE a DENTIST's office. My boyfriend still thinks it's crazy how much I love going to the dentist here. I've been with this dental group for several months now, since I opted to pursue invisalign with them. I care a lot about my cosmetics, but I am quite practical, and at times thrifty when it comes to what I'll spend my money on. So I will say that cost-wise, this clinic was the most reasonable quote I got on invisalign. I went to three other clinics, and found that they either didn't know what they were doing, or they knew what they were doing, and tried to charge me about $1500 more than Chicago Smile Design charged me. I can't reasonably comment on their other procedures/prices as I have never pursued any other cosmetic dental work. But given than this is one of the more experienced dental offices in invisalign procedures, AND they charge a low price for it, I was really impressed that the decor and atmosphere of their offices are as upscale as they are. I really like both dentists who work there- they are honest, personable and very good at what they do. The staff is EXCELLENT at what they do. They are well trained, well utilized within the clinic, and have a genuine pride in their work-place. Rare, in today's economic climate. And they seem to have really new and state of the art tools. Who knew there was such a thing as a cavity-meter? It is a little machine that beeps when it gets near a cavity. I have to admit, like most people, I usually don't enjoy dentist visits, but Chicago Smile Design offers a much more pleasant experience than you normally get at a dental office. read more

To start. I am one of those people who are absolutely terrified of the dentist. I'm talking shakes and sweats. I just left Dr. Tomaselli's office with a brand new appreciation for the Dentist. The entire staff from the front desk, to the assistants, other dentist there, and Dr. Tomaselli himself were so helpful and compassionate. Very thorough in explaining everything I needed to know. Explained my options and weren't pushy. As he worked on my root canal he explained what was happening with each step. By just saying I had to get a root canal, we all know how scary and uncomfortable they are and it was the opposite. It felt good to know they cared. It's no walk on the beach but it was beyond better than my shaky and anxious body and teeth feared. I truly am grateful to have found a dentist that I can become a repeat patient of. read more

Dr. T is an awesome dentist. Not only did he "cure" me of my extreme fear of dental work with his gentle and compassionate ways, but he's also a cool guy. He spends the time to explain things to you and give you treatment options. The office is great because you can watch your own little TV monitor while the hygenists do their job, or listen to excellent tunes playing in the background (no MUZAK here). I have been totally satisfied with every aspect of this office. The folks that greet you at the front desk are very nice- I noticed that they know and are sensitive to the individual patients. I started having tooth pain and per usual, it got worse at night and I couldn't sleep at all. I was up late trying to find a dentist with no luck. Upon morning, I googled sedative dentistry and chicago smile design came up. I called as soon as they opened and they said they could take me right away. I rushed there, was greeted by name and taken to the back. The entire office is beautiful and calming. With a quick look, it was apparent that I needed two teeth pulled. They told me the cost of sedation and that I would have to reschedule for that type of procedure. However, the staff were very nice and assured me that they could pull the teeth and make me as comfortable as possible. I have SEVERE dental anxiety stemming from being strapped down for dental procedures as a child. I was very reluctant but the staff assured me again and the tooth pain convinced me to try it without sedation. The doctor said he'd pull one and see how I felt. The staff made sure I was calm, checked with me every step of the way and I was able to get two teeth pulled with, dare I say, no pain. All was done in a hour or less. The experience was awesome. I was so IMPRESSED. They walked me through aftercare and scheduled my follow up visit. The entire staff is AMAZING. I usually reserve my Yelp reviews for restaurants, however, I just HAD to share an unusual experience I just had with a dentist. First, you should know that I've been to 4 dentists in 5 years. I was sick of being "upsold" on unnecessary procedures, and I was also not interested in being put on a "program" which involved multiple visits to reach my goals. These guys were like Tony Robbins in scrubs. Enter Dr. Peter Tomaselli. The office experience is a little odd, I have to admit. There are sharp looking assistants walking around in business suits - it's like you walked into an investment banking office. But after meeting the dentist, any thought of odd totally left my mind. Here are the things you need to know about this guy - he's a continuing education fanatic. He regularly attends seminars and is certified in several protocols. He does things like oral cancer screening, which I've never had done. And everyone in his office is NORMAL! I was kind of waiting for the upsell on Invisalign braces (he's one of only a couple of certified dentists in the area). No upsell whatsoever. The staff here is highly competent and current on the latest techniques, research and tools. This was definitely a pleasant surprise. I just starting coming here a month or so ago, and felt I needed to write a review, because they are pretty great. I went to Chicago Smile Design for an Invisalign consult and left with a new dentist! They explained everything really well (Dana went over everything and she is super nice), and ended up setting up an appointment for a deep cleaning and filling a cavity. I made an appointment to get my cleaning done and get the first set of Invisalign liners the same day. When i showed up, the liners had not come in.. and i explained that with my work hours, i would not be able to get them for a few weeks. These guys were nice enough to have them dropped off at my work for me! Talk about great customer service! And they give you a tube of whitener with the trays. The woman that did my cleaning was very nice and quick.. the dentist himself is really nice, and straightforward. I recommened this dental office to anyone. I have had the same dentist since i was a kid, and he is in the burbs. He is good too... but i am so glad i found a great dentist in the city. read more

I came here last week to get my permanent retainer taken out and a new one put in due to it breaking. I didn't get the original retainer here, but was happy that they had such great availability for me to get in right away, and considering I work right down the street, this made it a breeze. I was given options for additional treatment, but nothing was pushed on me. The staff and doctor are as nice as can be and very informative. The whole procedure took about 45 minutes, and the ortho tech that put my retainer back in did a phenomenal job. Its actually better than the original orthodontist put in, and sad thing is I was treated with better care her being a new client than my original orthodontist that myself and entire family has been going too for 15 years. That makes me upset because we could have spent A LOT of money here vs where we have been. I have told all my co-workers to try Chicago Smile Design, and my boyfriend plans on making an appointment within the next couple of weeks. I am happy I have a new local dentist. I have been a patient at Chicago Smile Design for 3 years. I started by having a crown on my front tooth replaced. But then I had to get a veneer to match it...I thought it was fine, but ran into Dr. Tomasselli at a restaurant and he hated it (he is a perfectionist). I went back, did invisalign and he just redid those two front teeth (COMPLIMENTARY) and they look fantastic. I also corrected a bite issue I had for years with the invisalign. These folks are true professionals. All the ladies who who work there are lovely and kind and really treat you great. I get reminders for my appointments both online and a call and I Love that. They have a new Dr. Del a Cruz and he worked on my invisalign, he is great too. If you really want something done right, go here. STAY FAR FAR AWAY!!!!!! Where do I even begin? I don't think I have ever been treated worse than I have with this company. Do not get me wrong, they were very nice before I decided to get my wisdom teeth removed here. It started out from a personal recommendation to come here, I went in for an appt and Dr. Tomaselli pushed me getting my wisdom teeth taken out before my insurance was even processed. He said "yes we take your Aetna PPO and Blue Cross Blue Sheild PPO Insurances" so it is not a problem and said "Let's take them out now" about 5 times. Even after I kept telling him I was on my lunch break at work and no arrangements for anyone to take me home afterwards. I asked them to see if i could split up the payments. They said the Blue Cross insurance that I had went through and the remainder was anywhere from $700-$800 before they entered my Atena insurance that they promised me they accepted. I have it in writing that they accept my Aetna from one of their employees. My bill should have been zero, or next to nothing since I have TWO Dental Insurances.... Surgery goes well, no problems so good job on the work......next thing I know I am getting a call from a poorly speaking Indian man saying that I was behind on a payment with CareCredit.....My first thought, CARE-WHO?! I had no idea that them telling me I could make monthly payments meant I was going through a THIRD PARTY FINANCE Co.! Not only am I signed up for this Credit Line, Chicago Smile Design submitted that I owe $1800 to them to collect from me.... FYI if you don't pay on time for a financial co. (that you never knew you had) then the interest rate is INSANE (about 20%). So this has been an ongoing fight with Chicago Smile and Design ever since. I speak with them on a daily or weekly basis for going on FOUR months. I DO NOT appreciate the many hours taken out of my day and the many headaches involved with all of this. They have refused to send over my medical records and any and all papers I apparently signed for everything....TOTALLY ILLEGAL...I have asked over 10 times, spoke with THREE Different employees and have even left personal voicemails for Dr.Tomaselli - which I am sure were never relayed to him- Oh ya the girl who filled out these papers (Dana) I "signed" is out of the country for 2 months "and they are not sure what she did or where the papers are" I can't even explain the problems I have had with this company. Many of which are ILLEGAL and I would not recommend a single person to these people. I am still waiting on those papers to be faxed.....maybe once they see this and the BBB report that I made along with seeking legal council they might decide to actually fix things....but I doubt it. When the employee, Dana, comes back from her trip she says she will cancel the third party vendor and will reduce my total bill down to the original $700 we previously discussed. Then resubmit Aetna and anything they pick up we will be reimbursed for immediately. She said they would bill my mother directly and everything would be taken care of. We assured her that we would love to pay in full and have been ready this whole time- but it is hard to pay a bill that has never arrived, much less have any breakdown detail on what/why we owe certain ammounts. After one month of waiting, I get ANOTHER call from CreditCare telling me my payment is overdue. When I call Dana she talks disrecpectifually with me and tell me that I am wrong and confused on our conversation and she never canceled anything. Meanwhile literally at the same time another girl, Kristen, is in the office calling my mother telling her that the $700 is due. My mother asked if a bill was ever mailed to her and their answer was NO. I am surprised and absolutely confused how they think my mom could not only pay a bill she has never seen, but just mail a check for $700 to a company without even a statement. Dana said she submitted Aetna on Oct.10th. When we three way the insurance company into the conversation to get all parties together, the insurance company states that my Aetna was submitted October 17th 2011...Dana said she must have mailed it...I didn't know the mail takes over FOUR MONTHS to get to the recepiant. That is funny why was my insurance never submitted before JULY 8TH when I had the surgery, and how do you come up with a total or how do you submit someone to a third party credit company when you don't even know what the insurance has covered!?!? There are many lies that have been told my the employees there, beyond what I am writing but I will discuss those after I speak with the doctor. They refused to transfer me to him everytime I have called and to this day tell me "he does not know about care credit or my account so Dana is the best person to speak with these issues about" ....Interesting that they would try to keep the Dr. from hearing what is really going on... read more

Okay, here we go: I was a long-time patient of Dr. Tomaselli and decided to switch dental practices, mainly because I felt like I was being taken for a ride. I was constantly being up-sold to get things like veneers (which are $1500/each) when all I wanted was to get a chipped tooth bonded and a filling. I asked his partner, Dr. de la Cruz, about what my treatment should consist of; he recommended tooth bonding, filling, etc., which seemed completely reasonable. Dr. Tomaselli came in and threw everything that Dr. de la Cruz had put together completely out the window. Dr. de la Cruz then quickly agreed with Dr. T, basically ignoring his own plan of treatment. Dr. T insisted I needed veneers, and was ready to start the process without giving me a chance to say "yes" or "no". I told him I'd need to think about it; when I went to check out, I had already been billed for things like waxing for the veneers ($300), all this stuff that hadn't been done, and, more importantly, I had never approved. I also noticed on a later bill that I had been double-charged for something from a previous bill, and that I had also been charged for an item I never received. They corrected it after I pointed it out to them, however check your bill to make sure they are accurate. It's too bad, because they're really nice there. Oh, well. read more

First, the lady in the front desk is so unprofessional, she charged me the wrong(higher) price which should not be, it seems she did not know how they define the price at all; Second, when the Dr. did my filling, he gave me a shot of anaesthetic, at that moment, I felt a huge hurt following a blurred vision, facial palsy and cardioacceleration. I thought I was going to die! I had been visited so several dental offices before, this was the first abnormal thing happen to me. Third, they are overpriced and up-sell which made me feel they did not care about your oral health only about your money. read more

I've been getting my routine cleanings done here for the past year or so. The doc and staff are super friendly and accommodating. I came to CSD because I was in really bad pain from a wisdom tooth. I made an appointment for a consult (which was free, others charge $90 and up) to meet with Dr. Thomaselli. The office is clean and comfortable and the front desk staff( Dana )was very knowledgable and confident when explaining the procedure. I also brought my 4yr old daughter with me and one of the hygienist colored with her until I was done being looked. Long story short, I got all four wisdom teeth removed and it was quick and painless! I didn't even have pain or swelling afterwards, unbelievable I know but true! I would recommend CSD to anyone needing wisdom teeth removed, they have an awesome staff and do great work! read more

Let me preface this by saying that I am obsessed with my teeth. I have never had a cavity and would like to keep it that way. I also don't like going to a bunch of different dentists/doctors. I went to the same dentist for 24 years and finally decided to find out in the city for convenience. I went to Dentist #2 for a few years but was never quite satisfied with his service. I found CSD when they had an offer for a free whitening for every new client. I decided to give them a try. I am glad that I did! The quality of service is much better. My mom was kinda obsessed with her teeth which made for good habits growing up and it taught me to not be scared to have dental appts. I don't dread it!!! I have lived in three states and I never had an experience like I had today at CSD. IT WAS AWESOME! Kristin and Dr. Tomaselli are awesome! They are informative and funny as hell. I loved the attentiveness and how they made me feel so welcome. The office is state of the art for sure and very inviting. Kristin cleaned the hell out of my teeth I feel so fresh and so clean. I have officially found my new dentist and will continue to go back! I was not pushed to get all this extra stuff for no reason. It was a great experience I HIGHLY recommend them. read more
