I asked to date professionals who are established in their careers and was presented with with women who are unemployed. I was told that I would see many women, but have only been presented less than 10 women in over 6 months. I'm very disappointed. Also, many of the women I've been presented, I've already seen on Bumble or Match. THERE'S NOTHING EXCLUSIVE OR BENEFICIAL TO JOINING THIS SERVICE!!! STAY AWAY!

Better late than never: I held off on writing a review of Matchmakers of Chicago (MOC, also known as Elan Dating Services and Sterling Register) because I was so angry about what I feel is a scam and I felt I could only write a review full of emotion instead of one grounded in the facts of what happened. So, I've taken two years to cool down and wait for them to come through with an apology and a refund. I've waited and received neither. And lest you think I've forgotten details of what happened I'm writing this review with the email and print correspondence, written contract and notes taken from phone calls with them during the time I used their services. They put on a charming in person presentation about how much care they put into choosing the people they matched their clients with. When I asked how these men were selected they alluded to lists of eligible bachelors who used to pay for this service or are currently paying for this service. I paid over $1,000 of my hard earned money (which was never refunded). Here are the snippets from emails I sent in after my two problematic dates: ------------------------------------ Feedback I emailed MOC after date #1 on 5-27-11 "--MY DATE-- was 15 minutes late but was nice, polite and good looking. However, this cannot count as one of my matches because they are supposed to be based on my criteria. He was in the seminary for over 10 years and is now a VERY Catholic man: no sex unless it's in marriage and for the purpose of having a baby, anti-gay, etc. There is no way humanly possible that anyone who had even glanced at my file might think that could be an acceptable match. Its a clear fundamental difference in lifestyle and values. I told --MOC EMPLOYEE 1-- outright during our interview that I had just split from an evangelical Christian due to religious difference among other things. This should not be news to her or the rest of the team. Please forward this to --MOC EMPLOYEE 1 & 2--. Also, is my 2nd date still on for next Wednesday? And is it possible to make sure he's not a bible banging Catholic? Or any of the other deal breakers written on my intake form?" ------------------------------------ Feedback I emailed MOC after date #2 on 6-1-11 "My date didn't know that I was matched with him through a professional, high end matchmaking service. He was under the impression I was there like him, for a "free date to meet someone else in the database who had gone a mixer at some point over the years." He also said, with surprise and concern, "why would they pair you up with a free-loader like me and not someone else looking for a love match?" ------------------------------------ MOC sent me the phone numbers of two of their current female clients for me to call and ask about their experiences. I called one of the women only after I began to have problems with the service. She told me of similar experiences and the low caliber of the men she was matched with. I feel gullible for believing their pitch and dumb for not having called one of the other female clients earlier. I should have more aggressively pursued getting a refund. Don't make the same mistakes I made.

They have tons of swing dance classes and workshops, kick boxing, wedding party partner dance classes, silk screening, yoga, karate, art, animation, stained glass, glass blowing...oh, and you know that book you've been meaning to get bound..? Learn how in a book binding class! Now, I've only participated in the swing stuff and can tell you that you'll learn from the best, Nicolle Wood, who also owns the space. I've also attended many private parties here and they manage to transform the space from casual to elegant effortlessly...it's just such a unique space... And excuse me for saying so, but if you don't agree it isn't one of the most fun dances to not only participate in, but also WATCH others do, well then friend you are a miserable bastard that should spend the rest of your days watching re-runs of Solid Gold and Dance Party USA. aHEm. So see, I had come across a Groupon for a six week series here and when I saw that...why I couldnt have been more excited if Gregory Peck himself came back from the dead just to goose me. And holy heck was it fun! The instructors were awesomely patient and thorough about explaining all the steps, and even when you had to dance with some two-left footed schmoe, you still were having a good time. The facility is big, and decorated in sort of a vintage, thrift store hodgepodge, but it works. This aint Arthur Murray over here kids...they also offer a bunch of other classes that have nothing to do with dancing too! But I dont care about that...I am completely hooked and cant wait to go back to take more swing classes. And now I am proud to say I don't look like I am doing a full bodied dry heave set to music anymore. rockin! Thanks Galaxie!

She was extremely patient and worked with us as we went back and forth trying to make decisions throughout the months leading up to August. She responded quickly to all our questions and always had a bright and positive attitude, which we really appreciated during that time. Jamie was even able to allow us to come the day before to decorate since there were no events going on. Working with Jamie made the venue that much more special to us! The venue itself is beautiful. All the photos came out stunning and beautiful. We had our ceremony and cocktail hour downstairs in Kitchen Chicago and dinner upstairs. Both areas are beautiful and very photogenic. The view of the city from the upstairs windows is breathtaking and a perfect backdrop for photos. The food was amazing as well. Our friends still talk about how the food was so delicious and a few of our friends have even tried to recreate the salad. The cake was done by Sophie at Vanille. She was amazing to work with as well. We walked into our consultation completely clueless and Sophie guided us to our dream cake! It was beautiful! Overall we're so happy we went with City View Lofts! We appreciated the professionalism and positive attitude of every staff and vendor that served us. It was not the wedding we originally envisioned when we booked the venue last year (pre-pandemic), but it was better than we could have imagined and turned out to be a memorable day we will never forget. We're so grateful to CVL, all of their staff, and the owners for working with us and being flexible during the pandemic to make this all possible and done safely. We've heard so many awful stories of friends being swindled out of their deposits and/or being strong-armed by the venues they've booked with.
