Since this corner store changed the moniker from Bucky's then to Casey's and now Star Stop, it has gone down hill. It was as if each name change took with it a layer of polish, leaving only discarded cigarette butts and scattered graffiti. More than a third of the pumps are down, and every other one looks as if someone has tried to hack into the credit card readers. The inside is in ever worse condition. Every inch of the floors are sticky. The pizza station has no attendant. The roller grill is greasy and empty. The cold case of "fresher" items is poorly maintained and has spoiled food. And finally, the worst offender. Avoid the bathrooms at all costs. The sinks are filthy with loose spigots. The urinals are overflowing with debris and the entire thing emits a reek worthy of a port-o-John on the last Sunday of the rodeo. If you need gas, go 3 miles down the road to the new 7/11

I went ahead and inserted my debit card. After getting the green light I removed my card, I picked the grade of gas I wanted and inserted the nozzle into my gas tank. As the gas transferred from the pump to my gas tank I sat in my car and proceeded to watch a few Instagram reels. When my tank was full, I returned the nozzle, and decided against a paper receipt. After getting a full tank I continued on to work. Marvelous!

The convenience store is a bit small, but still has most the items you would expect. The gas can be a bit expensive, but this is all about location. Right next to the belt way, so very easy to exit and then get right back on Sam Houston. One down side, the bathroom is not always the cleanest. Typically clean enough to enter, but not a place you want to stay too long!

I felt heartbroken a week later as I was allowed to the area and chatted with someone with firsthand experience. I originally thought this building is old and small, compared to the brand new building across the street at Bucky's Convenience store. But service is 10 times better than Bucky's. The gas prices are comparable and always in stock. This Circle K store doesn't have car wash or fancy drink bars. But it has people genuinely want to help. I know everyone working there by names. I ditched Bucky's for Circle K/Valero any day.

So they didn't have any coffee, Slurpee's or anything else unless it was bottled. Plus, didn't Circle-K used to always have Slupree's?! With the blue dog?! They only have Frostees! I guess it's close to the same thing. They offered a variety of flavors that I'd never seen before. Mango! But they weren't selling those. Since the price of gas is comparable to Texaco across street, there is no reason to go anywhere if you are traveling south bound on Gessner.
