Dr. C is an internal medicine specialist by trade, but I have him as my primary physician.
Doctor: 5/5
Dr. Cheung has been my primary physician for years (since early 2000s). He's really personable, and spends the time talking to you. He personally calls you back when you leave him a message, too. He's quick about seeing you, especially when I had an acute asthma attack when we had some local fires a few years ago.
Last year I had a freakish ordeal, where I lost my eyesight and hearing for a brief period of time, so I called him the next day and he quickly referred me to an eye specialist and had me go get a CT Scan ASAP. He also "lectured" me about not going to the ER when this all happened, but I was fine after a few minutes, so I figured I'll survive another day.
Anyhoo, he teaches at Cedar Sinai, and has his own practice in Alhambra. Despite his busy schedule, he makes an extra effort to provide great patient care. He measures your vital signs himself, and how many doctors actually spend the time to measure your bp? It's usually a nurse or a MA, but Dr. Cheung does it himself. He's patient with your questions, and is not a drug pusher. He usually gets the diagnosis quick, and I am up and about afterwards. Unlike some shapHe's thorough with his exams, and he also likes small talk, too.
He knows my mom, and asks how she's doing whenever I visit. Also he's very professional and keeps patient files confidential. My mom goes to see him, just to see how I am doing, and he doesn't say a word. Upon my mom's return, she always says, "Dr. Cheung never shares anything about your health with me." Me: Uh..yeah mom, it's called, Patient & Doctor Confidentiality.
Staffing & billing: 3/5
OK, for a Chinese run front office. The receptionist seems a bit overwhelmed with filing, billing, and phone calls. I think they have one extra helper, now, and it seems less hectic. Sure they can improve on their interpersonal skills, but they get the work done. My only gripe is that sometimes they seem like the don't really know how to deal with insurance companies. I have Blue Shield (PPO), and it just baffles me how this office makes me pay upfront, while visits to other doctor's, just bills the insurance company. After awhile, I think they got the system down, but at first, it was a bit confusing and frustrating. And what bothers me is that they are heavy handed for overcharging the insurance company for my visits. Hmmm.... read more
