The Chester Manor Hostel, Formerly the Chester Manor Hotel, should be avoided at all costs, unless there is absolutely no other place to stay. We stayed there over the July 4th weekend because every place else in town was booked. There is no AC, phone, or TV or in-room refrigerator. A small fan was supplied to move the stagnant, mildewy air. Yes, yes, it's a hostel, so amenities should be expected to be basic, but this place is grim. The room we checked into was filthy. The carpet was damp, stained, and mildewy. The bathroom was abysmal. I spilled water from a cooler on the bathroom floor, and when I went to wipe it up with a towel, the towel came up black with filth as if I had wiped up a garage floor. The water coming out of the bathroom taps is so restricted that it was merely a trickle. The shower stall was mildewy as well. I had stayed at this place when it was still a motel and it had been well-kept, clean, and comfortable. Not any more. In fact, there was rarely anyone in the office to assist. A sign there told us to go across the parking lot to the Best Western for assistance. Security was nonexistent. The window by the front door had a broken latch so it could be easily slid back by a thief. We kept our valuables in our car trunk at night. The best thing this place could do is go out of business. It was in a word, disgusting, and for $65.00 for a night it was grossly overpriced. Yes. That bad. read more
