Since being a A Woman's Concern for an extended period of time, we have learned new things. A Woman's Concern has also has a point system, which allows us to purchase various needs for our baby! The staff is also always helpful! I highly recommend A Woman's Concern to anyone who suspects they are pregnant, pregnancy concerns/questions, guidance, or assistance with their pregnancy/newborn. I had a long correspondence with a staff member at North Care a few months ago, when I was facing…read morean unintended pregnancy. I quickly learned that North Care Women's Clinic is not a real health clinic. Although their website is unclear on this topic, they do not perform abortions or refer patients elsewhere for abortion care. This is an anti-abortion crisis pregnancy center. The woman I spoke with was the client services director at the "clinic" who was generally very polite, but she became weirdly evasive when I asked her whether or not this is a specifically pro-life clinic. She was very careful not to actually say yes or no. (If the answer was no, she obviously would have just said "no.") I wasn't very aware of all this stuff before I contacted North Care, so I thought I should share what I've learned to help anyone else in my situation: Crisis pregnancy centers (CPCs) are not real reproductive healthcare clinics. While they do often provide free pregnancy tests and limited ultrasounds, they also have a specific agenda (to prevent people from choosing to have abortions, regardless of what the patient wants or requires). I don't know that this particular clinic uses quite such extreme tactics, but many CPCs spread information that has long been discredited (such as that abortion causes cancer and infertility, and frequently leads to lifelong emotional trauma). Some will even lie to pregnant people about how far along they are so that by the time they go to a legitimate doctor it is too late for them to legally have an abortion or the procedure is no longer affordable. Based on the interaction I had with the woman who is evidently in charge of communicating with potential patients, I have no doubt that the actual counseling sessions would be equally dishonest and evasive. Again, the woman I spoke to was kind, but it quickly became clear that she was lying to me by omission. North Care's website is crafted to appear neutral about abortion, but it's clear to me now that they actually have an anti-abortion agenda. I do not trust this place with my reproductive health, and you should do your research before going here--especially if you're considering having an abortion and want honest, accurate information about it, without an agenda that might run counter to your own best interests. Honestly, I wouldn't have such a problem with a pro-life/anti-abortion clinic if they were upfront about their beliefs (both on their website and when asked directly). Since this center won't tell the truth about its purpose, I feel it's my duty to make sure this information is available to others who might find themselves in a similar situation and come across North Care. Other clinics (legitimate ones) can and will provide you with unbiased counseling and connect you with resources for affordable pregnancy care, reputable adoption agencies, AND abortion if that is what you choose. Based on my experience communicating with this clinic, I do not believe that North Care can be trusted to do the same. I didn't deserve to be misled and outright lied to just because I was in a vulnerable position, and neither do you! We all deserve better. Seek out a legitimate reproductive healthcare clinic and steer clear of this place and other CPCs.
