From the very first day, we knew this school was something special--but looking back now, we realize it's been even more than we ever imagined. The teachers and staff are truly second to none. They are warm, loving, incredibly dedicated, and make every child feel seen, supported, and celebrated. The care and attention they give to each student is remarkable--they've created an environment where kids are not only learning, but thriving. One thing we've especially appreciated is how incredibly communicative the staff is. Whether it's through the ClassDojo app or via email, we always felt in the loop and connected to what our son was learning and experiencing each day. That kind of transparency and partnership with parents is priceless. Another beautiful part of our time at Rollingwood has been the community of families we've met along the way. Keeping the kids together year after year has allowed them to form deep, meaningful friendships, and we've built our own bonds with other parents that we'll carry with us for years to come. It truly feels like an extended family. And here's one of my favorite things: our son hugs every teacher hello and goodbye, every single day. CONS: - These poor educators oftentimes have to drag parents in and coerce them into helping their kids with reading and math. The amount of coaxing that is done so that the kids can do well on tests is sad but the school does a good job of trying to entice both students and parents to study after school with their engagement nights. Named after the first African-American superintendent from Suffolk, Mack Benn Junior Elementary School opened back in 1998. Sadly, Mack Benn Junior drowned during a boat accident. Here are some pros and cons about the school: * The classrooms are small and too many students are crammed. The teachers do their best; speaking about teachers, my son's teacher is Mrs. Maskelony and she rocks! I was so pleased that my son had an awesome teacher for his first time. I also like the principal, David LeFevre. This was his first time at Mack Benn and I think he has been great. He is warm, caring, and attentive. * I am impressed about the gifted program called Quest. Compared to another school and gifted program for my middle son, Quest is much better. The students got to talk to an astronaut virtually and a video conference with Barbara Bush. * I didn't want to talk about the administrators (office staff) because I know it can be a hard job. However, many parents say some of the staff is rude and even my son said the same. When I asked him what he didn't like about the school, he said some administrators aren't very nice. I would rather have my son at home but I have been more impressed than I thought I would. My son has been happy there and that is what matters. I think Mack Benn Jr. is one of the best elementary schools in Suffolk but keep in mind that all of Suffolk schools are subpar.

She does not provide behavioral incident reports, refuses to provide footage when incidents happen, and makes no effort to support kids having emotional breakdowns. Additionally incident info that is characteristic of how this establishment handles kids: Kids Town Learning Center suspended my child on a Friday, for the following Monday and Tuesday. They provided no official documentation for this incident and sent a message via the parent portal app several hours later that she was suspended. The incident involved her making a mess of toys. My wife recorded when she arrived and it was clear that the staff were not managing our child's behavior. Our child has a diagnosed disability and the daycare center staff have not established a care or management plan for her. The day care is aware that she has ongoing disability and learning evaluations. I am making this post to hold them accountable and have submitted VDOE and ADA reports.

They go to music class and dance class and also get a lot of outside time. But their program would be wonderful for any child because they really challenge them to think and to learn by experiencing new things.

The new ODS is located off Independence Blvd in the Bayside area of VB. This property will be utilized by Princess Anne MS once again. No time table on when construction will begin of a new school ,but the information is usually posted on the district website if interested.
