They have always been patient in educating us as first-time home buyers, and we never questioned that they were working in our best interest. They quickly ran many different scenarios and provided pre-approval letters for us on multiple properties that didn't come through, and finally for the house where our offer was accepted. One of the reasons we went with Chris and his team was their extensive experience and deep knowledge related to renovation loans (203k and HomeStyle) and conventional non-renovation loans, which gave us flexibility to switch to a different type of loan if the home we are purchasing did not end up qualifying for a non-renovation loan. We appreciated them expediting the appraisal, which was critical for this determination and luckily resulted in what we were hoping for. We always received quick, helpful, and easy to understand responses from Chris and Bryce, even on evenings, weekends, and Father's Day. Our loan was fully approved in about 2.5 weeks, even with a 5 week closing timeline. The rate we received was highly competitive. We have had absolutely zero complaints or hiccups throughout many, many months of working with Chris and the team, and we would unquestionably recommend Chris to friends and use him again.

I was a first time homebuyer and felt confident with the process with John and his team, Victoria and Josh, guiding me thorugh the process. The only downside is that while shopping for mortgages, I had stated I wanted a mortgage with no escrow (I'd rather manage my money myself and keep the money from the interest myself). John said that was possible, but only for a fee (a percent of the loan). Unfortunately it seems that escrows are built into the underwriting itself, so not much we could really do to get around the fee. Just know that if you don't want to escrow. Otherwise I am very pleased with their services.

The homebuying process as a first time buyer was difficult for me for a number of reasons - my…read moreagent was awful and completely unhelpful, I bought during the summer months so houses were flying off the market within days, and I was constantly disappointed by the houses I toured. Everything turned around for me once I started working with Bob (Robert) and Jessica. I called them at all hours of the day with a million and one questions and they were not only responsive, but also patiently explained every little detail that I was confused about (which was a lot). Bob came up with several different loan scenarios for me, all of which included every incentive program that I qualified for. After speaking with a number of different lenders and real estate agents, I realized that things like city-specific financial incentives are not common knowledge, even among experts in the trade. Bob knows his stuff and ended up saving me a LOT of money. He even called me once to say, "Great news - I just found a way to save you $1,500." Need I say more? I was also extremely grateful for Jessica, Bob's assistant. One time, Bob was in a meeting and normally, that's usually a sign to the client that they'll have to wait for a call back, but Jessica was so knowledgeable about my files and current situation, that she was able to help me with all that I needed herself. Bob also called to follow up after his meeting. Double win. I never even had to step foot in their office. I usually never write online reviews, but I really cannot say enough about Bob and Jessica at First Home Mortgage. If you couldn't already tell, I highly recommend!

During the initial interview, he took the time to thoroughly answer my questions and explain the home buying process and his role in that process in detail. As a first time homebuyer, he filled me in on aspects I didn't even know I had questions about. Throughout the process, John was attentive to my questions and took the time to call me back and discuss any concerns I had. He treated everyone we interacted with respectfully, which I believe was instrumental in getting my offer accepted. He had excellent intuition for what the DC market was doing this summer. I never felt pressured to offer more than I was comfortable with on a property, but he did make suggestions based on his knowledge of the area and comparably properties. John also took the time to contact the other agent to figure out what the seller was looking for in an offer. After putting together an offer, John was always available to patiently answer any questions I had. I have continued to benefit from working with John even after closing. His vast network of contacts has been invaluable in finding quality contractors. Even after searching for my own contractors, I ended up using John's recommendations. Next time I'm in the market for a house, John will be my first call.
