Not to be confused with Cherrypop Community Center, which is something entirely different and related to the losing of one's (or two's, or any number's really) virginity. Cherryhurst is a great little Park located on the back streets of Montrose in Houston and it's not always the cleanest, but the community center here is a nice addition for the community and we've definitely had lots of nice walks around here and also spotted a lot of beautiful people here - and I'm not talking about ourselves but thattoo. read more

We parked near this park when dining at a nearby restaurant and it was such a pleasant day out, we stayed and hung out here with our kids after the meal. There weren't a ton of people there and the playground is a decent size, with swings, slides climbables, and plenty of shade and benches for the parents. The park also offers two tennis courts along with a wall to practice tennis against. All of the tennis facilities were full with some people waiting. It seemed like the natural progression was to start on the wall while you waited for a court to open up. There is plenty of parking and the surrounding neighborhood is safe and quaint. I stumbled upon this park when I decided to take a different route during my evening walk with my pups. This is a small, quiet park tucked away in the middle of Montrose. What this park has to offer: - Lots of trees that offer a ton of shade - One tennis court - Basketball hoop - Big grassy area to run around in, have a game of soccer, or picnic on - Tables and plenty of benches - Small playground great for young children - Water fountains, even one set close to the ground for the dogs to use - Plenty of trash cans - Always clean - Never crowded - Community center that offers recreational activities for the public - A peaceful place to sit and relax My dogs love walking by the playground because they get tons of attention from the kids. This is definitely a nice, small park to check out if you're ever in the area and need some peace and quiet. read more

If you're ITL and looking for green space it's often hard to find. Even though there are more projects to keep and expand such spaces you're limited right now. At the moment I enjoy this small park. It has a tennis court, lots of a trees, and a solid walking trail. It allows you to walk peacefully, in a pretty safe area. read more

This a very nice small park surrounded by a family friendly neighborhood. We came here on an early Saturday afternoon, and parking was plentiful. This park had a tennis court for two players or a wall for one player to practice. We didn't play, but it would be fun to come back here again for this activity. What we did partake in were the adult swings in their playground. I relived my childhood and swung myself as high as I could on those bad boys. Wheeee! It was so fun and exhilarating. We were lucky enough to even witness an impromptu wedding take place at this park - it was just beautiful. There's lots of trees here and it's well shaded. So, bring a blanket, some snacks, and relax. Oh, and maybe bring some bug spray. read more

This is a lovely neighborhood park. For two years, it was our neighborhood and our park. The old oak trees are incredible. The grassy area was barren when we moved in due to the drought but now is lovely. The community center, once threatened with closure due to budget cuts, hosts after school programs and various classes. The tennis court is nice, probably for tennis but also in our experience for dogs to run around. Much of the credit for the park and community center goes to the neighbors and the Cherryhurst Civic Association, who raise funds and have work days in the park, which we participated in including replanting the area at the NE corner of the park. This review is a bit of a farewell to Cherryhurst and Houston, after two years David and I have returned to California. Our new neighborhood is nice, but we miss the trees, the wonderful community spirit of Cherryhurst and our neighbors. read more

We adore this place as our neighborhood park. It certainly isn't as nice as some, but is a great, quick, pick me up when the kids and I need some outdoor time. The community center itself has recreational activities and offerings, mostly offered through the City of Houston's parks & recreation department. These include free tennis lessons for kids in the summer, karate and soccer during other times of year. Check the board near the tennis courts for postings about the park's offerings as well. The playground is small and normally not very crowded. Often times you'll find a few nannies and their little people out playing. The playground is appropriate until about age 7 and then is probably too small to be fun for older children. The open field is great for soccer, a picnic, or playing catch with a pooch. My kids like spying and petting all of the pups whose humans walk them here. My biggest warning would be simply that they don't spray for mosquitoes, so bring your own because after rain this place is a mosquito pit. OH, and not public bathrooms, so go potty before you come out to play (unless you're a pup...in which case, just make sure your human brings a bag to pick up your #2). read more
