We had a large table after a funeral, several of us milling in at different times. I had hot ham and Swiss sandwich with sweet potato fries and my husband had a burger and regular fries. He thought his was ok (he really needs to get more adventuresome with food beyond continually ordering every restaurant's burger/fries), I thought a bit better with mine, especially the sweet potato fries. We shared mozzarella sticks that were good. Desserts looked delicious but we were full. Our young server was phenomenal. Handled a lot of separate checks, was accommodating with our "sometimes" messy little grans, and she managed to do all this with fulfilling most of our needs and wants. First off it was a party of 6, haven't been there since I was the kitchen manager back in the 80s. I brought my family there for my mo.s birthday . We all ordered....the Ruben i had was small for the price, mo.s melt was small for price. The under cooked tenderloin my dad had was under cooked with a half of red onion sitting on the bottom of the bun.. ?wife had a burger missing the cheese requested and was charged along with many other things missing as per order. My daughter was ok, her boyfriend got his wings after asking for them after everyone got their food 10 minutes later. Mud was runny and way over priced for what we got, onion rings were ok. My Ruben was for small for price. Wow... you guys are not all of that for what you charge. Service was fair. Nice atmosphere, your average bar menu with a very cheap happy hour and specials during the week. On Tuesdays all burgers are half price so for like seven bucks and 3 vodka drinks the bill was $16 total. The staff was great so that helped having a good time and experience on Thursdays through Sunday. I believe the boiler guard/Chi lounge opens in their adjacent bar room and bier garden. read more

Food-3 Let's start with the food. I just want to say very subpar to what I was expecting with the atmosphere and the price of food on the menu. My friend ordered the aloha chicken sandwich. In theory it sounded really good. What you don't expect though is the sandwich isn't made with a chicken breast, but instead with two small grilled tenders. They only covered about half of the sandwich. It came with fries and those were good. I had ordered the 16 ounce prime rib with two sides (one beer cheese macaroni, and the broccoli). When the food came out, the prime rib did not look like prime rib. It was grilled and overcooked. I requested, medium rare, and some of the fat cap was burnt to a crisp. Unfortunately, that was the best thing food wise. The sides were lukewarm. The mac & cheese had good flavor, but would've been better if it came out hot. Very overpriced for what you actually are paying for. Service-2.5 The service here was pretty bad I have to say. Our waiter would disappear after attending to us for 10 minutes at a time. When she was around she was in the corner of the bar eating. I didn't know whether to put this in the food or service category but because the chicken sandwich barely had enough chicken for the sandwich we ordered another piece of chicken for the sandwich. That extra piece of chicken never came out. After 20 minutes of not having the chicken come out I asked if they forgot, because I'm not gonna pay for an extra piece on my bill if you didn't bring it to me, and when I asked this, the kitchen cook who just clocked out said " oh that's my bad, I had put it down on the grill, but then they told me to clock out and I forgot about it, sorry." The owner sat at the end of the bar talking to our server while they're both eating food and heard all these conversations and did not care to rectify or adress any issues. I noticed also our waiter started doing the trash and did not wash their hands after. On top of it all while we're eating they're all trying to move a fridge/freezer. I feel like these are things that should be done after close when you don't have customers to attend to. Ambiance-4 Cherry Street's atmosphere was not bad although there's not much to say about it. Drinks-4 The beer was the best part of my experience here. Very good in-house selection and the beers were reasonably priced in comparison to everything else. Overall-2.5 Personally, I think this place is overpriced and just not very good. I went here with high expectations that were nowhere near met. I'm definitely not gonna eat here again, and I would not recommend this to anybody. read more

Was recommended to try this place, being new to town. The food was really good! I ordered the patty melt. The portion size was great (I received tons of fries). The bartender seemed a little busy, but was super friendly and accommodating. I'll be back! This place had a really cool vibe. read more

Back again for a holiday visit and things have been elevated! They do have hardwood floors on the bar side now, and the place was fairly hopping. The bartender was good, and for my meal I went with the Halls deluxe roast beef, sans caramelized onions with cottage cheese for my side. The jerk sauce on the sandwich had a good kick! There was Guinness on draft which pleased my husband. Cherry Street was nicely decorated for the holidays with a tall Christmas tree festooned with white lights. The staff appeared to be pretty good workers and well engaged, and it was refreshing to see them pushing in barstools and straightening things up when they had a moment. I believe it's under new ownership since the last time I was in and they apparently have a beer garden and bourbon bar with wines by the bottle next door now too, and a good menu of bourbons at Cherry Street, with really reasonable prices! Clientele ranged from 20s to 70s with some families with kids as well, and it was a good vibe. They had prime rib available every night, although no baked potatoes unless it was Friday or Saturday, and creative food specials. Worth a stop if you're in the area! read more

If you're looking for an unpretentious, but solid, neighborhood style bar and grille, here's your spot. We've seen this place when we've been in downtown Galesburg multiple times, but never dropped in. Downtown was busy this night with prom goers, so we stopped in thinking Cherry Street just on the hope of not finding a wait. I have to say, the unassuming entry doesn't give justice to how just plain solid this place is. Kick back neighborhood style gathering place for starters, with red brick walls and neon to warm up the place. Staff was warm and attentive also, even though they were definitely busy. Our helpful waitress helped us sort through the many menu choices to help us identify customer favorites the suited our preferences. My husband was pleased to find Guinness on tap and I had a tasty adult cherry limeade. They also have their own home brews on tap if you want to try something local. My Hawaiian style chicken sandwich kicked me right in the tastebuds with sweet pineapple, chicken, bacon and a spicy teriyaki sauce. My spouse selected a black bean burger as a vegetarian option along with a side of steamed broccoli. They also have many grille standards and not so standards. Food was brought out promptly and hot. An appreciated plus in this era of often lackluster service. The owner(manager?) stopped by pleasantly to make sure we were happy with our experience (we were). I don't know why I kept giving this place chances? Maybe it was because of the beautiful girl working w the big blue eyes when I first came here and whom I haven't seen since. She was sweet and attentive and gave great service. My last 3 visits were sub par. The bartenders are in there own world and cannot anticipate a need. I would understand if it was busy but when I'm one of two people I. The place you think you could get it right. Food was good but it took forever to get. After noticeably looking around the bar for napkins and silverware, I spotted some and had to get up and go get it myself while the bartender sat there doing homework it looked like. You would think when ordering muddy fries you'd get a stack of napkins and a fork. Anticipating a need. That's what earns 5 stars. Ahhh - Cherry Street! The place where so many fuzzy memories have been made, both during college and over various homecoming weekends. This has been the place to go for decades now. This place has passed through numerous hands over the years and still remains largely the same...and that's a good thing! The drinks are reasonably priced by Galesburg standards which makes them downright cheap if you're used to the cost of going out in any real city. I was drinking 12-year old single malt scotch and paying $4 a drink for a generous pour. The wife was getting Tanquery and tonic at the same cost. This is a place where the $20s really go a long way. They serve food too. I don't think I've ordered any of it this century but I remember it being pretty good. read more

Typical shady spot with end of the night crowd and the usual suspects. The police showed up at some point, maybe to try and catch one of the usual drug deals that go on or to clear out the crowds when a fight broke out on the dance floor. Drinks are typical and music is loud. It's the usually place for closing out the night. It's hard to get a cab so call one and arrange a pick up spot so no one snags it. read more

Reasons why I won't be giving Cherry Street my business anymore: 1. I don't feel safe drinking or eating in a place that doesn't take harassment allegations against people employed there very seriously. By trying to discredit the victim, they showed me that their reputation was more important than the customer - in my opinion. 2. I don't like to support businesses that can't be upfront when a mistake is made and own up to it. Being sneaky is just as bad as being dishonest - in my opinion. 3. I prefer establishments where the bartenders are trained to know when to cut someone off - it is just as important for them to know when to say no as it is for those of us making the decision to drink - in my opinion. 4. I also prefer establishments that ID every person (and can tell the difference between a real one and a fake one) It shows responsibility - in my opinion. 5. I don't frequent establishments that don't hold their employees accountable for their actions - just a personal stance. 6. Honestly, the food there isn't even good. A cheese stick wrapped in a wonton is not a mozzarella stick - in my opinion. read more

The food is MUCH better since the new owners took over but I'd recommend sticking to their specials. While most of the menu is good- they still have some grubby bar food on there. Their pizzas are good and so are the salads... My favorite item is the Ruben Rolls (ask for both thousand island and stone mustard and mix the two together to dip them in). Cherry Street fills its niche. That niche is best appreciated after you've gotten a couple drinks in your system elsewhere. They seem to be cool with the fact that they don't have their act together. They can count on a rotating supply of people who don't know better. My chicken strips were fine; then again, it's hard to screw up chicken strips. We also got mud, for which we were given paper plates. The plates lasted about 30 seconds before gluing themselves to the table. The Beer Garden is a nice space for concerts though. I've had a very long relationship with CS marred by 21st birthdays, all you can eat wings, pizza nights, embarrassing karaoke styling, and drunken dance floor confessionals. I'll always return. It went downhill over the course of my college career. I am hopeful now that the place is under new ownership. I can't really comment on the menu as I was not enjoying food the last time I stopped in. It is however a different place Homecoming weekend at Knox. So my current experiences with CS would not be too useful to the Yelp community. I will say that it is a great place to drink to excess with friends! I can't really say no to Cherry Street. This place has gone down hill. The waitress took forever to take our order. Then took our drink orders and got my drink wrong. Then took forever to get our food order taken. We got our food and my burger had a hair in my burger. My boyfriend's Reuben had a hair as well. My son ordered a pizza and he told the waitress exactly what he wanted. Don't ask me why I was in West Jubumfarts, IL last weekend. I was. And I liked it. Once a year I venture "out West" for a little Turkey Trot (5K race to win turkeys? Sweet!) action. When I visit, I make sure to stop at Cherry Street for some Mud. Only one word can be used to described this concoction - CRAPTASTIC. Seriously, "Mud" (best eaten with tortilla chips or, oh what the hell, a spoon) is a mixture of melted cheese sauce and not-very-chunky chili. Emphasis is definitely on the cheese but the chili makes it the grossest shade of brownish orange. Still, it tastes darn good an I love it. The restaurant itself is a little average but the people are nice and the mud is flowin' so as long as keep trotting for turkeys, I'll be back. read more

I had not been to Cherry St. in years since I used to come back to Galesburg from college breaks. Wow has it changed. As many probably remember, Cherry St. used to be pretty, well..."ghetto" and attracted a not-so-good crowd. I contacted Cherry St. a few months back about doing a birthday party for my parents. I received a very prompt response from Lou and Stan. Based on the budget I had in mind, they worked with me on food options and other options relating to drinks and amenities. We had the party in the side room on the 1st floor - thank goodness they took away that raised floor. What a pain. We were provided our own bartender (Nancy, who was great!) and all the food came out in a timely fashion. Our party turned out great and everyone was raving about how fun it was. Cherry St. has definitely changed and I'm certain for the better. Now I can actually bring my out-of-town friends here and not to mention I hope to have other parties here in the future. read more

This is your standard bar with decent food. I wasn't impressed with their beer selection, they had all light beers except for Guinness. We got the buffalo chicken wings for an appetizer; they were ok. I had the rueben burger with sweet potato fries. The fries were pretty good, but the burger was dry. The service was good, and the food was average. Stop by if you are looking for a laid back place to have a beer. read more

My menu selection came perfectly prepared. I did request a Medium 1/2 burger and light on the salt fries. Both were perfect. The beef was good and seasoned well. Try the cheese sticks made in wonton wrappers. They are really great! Our service was shoddy. As one of the few tables who were eating we had to wait an incredibly long time for our food. When we asked about it we were told that we had to understand that they were busy due to a comedy show. Oddly, the attendance for said show was low. We had to ask for silverware and drink refills. And we were never offered an apology. When we asked for who was in charge, we were told that she had left to play cards..... Very poor food :( $9 mud was cold, bun for the Philly was soaking wet, fries were over cooked and cold. It took forever to get a drink!
