My English Cream Golden Retriever, who is now a healthy, 1 1/2 yr old female, (approx 65 lbs) needed to be spayed. I was nervous to get it done but realized it was necessary for her future health. I used to bring my Cats here for care but they have since passed on. I decided to bring my Katie here for her spay surgery. This was her first visit here. I arrived around 8:30am to drop off Katie on her surgery day. The gal at the front desk on Aug 28th greeted me with kindness and that relieved me. The Vet tech who came out to the lobby was also friendly and greeted my dog with a compliment and lots of welcome strokes across her head and upper body. I could tell she loved dogs and Katie was not nervous to go in back with her to start the procedure. Last time I was here, Dr. McCullough worked here. She has since passed so they advised me that Dr. Lynn Muller (from ACT Spay & Neuter, Stockton) was helping them out for surgeries. I did not get a chance to meet her, however, I hear good things about ACT so I went by that. I picked up Katie around 4:30pm that same day. She came out to the lobby to greet me like nothing had happened. She looked good. Not drugged out or nervously excited to get the heck out of there! What a relief! My fur baby was fine! Hallelujah! Ashley even helped me get Katie into the back of my SUV. They gave me a pain med pill to take home with me and advised that she take it easy (no jumping). The price was great also! Less than $300! Katie is doing great. The small incision healed well on her belly after a week. No oozing or irritation. They use surgical glue so you don't have to return to remove sutures. She can't wait to start her long dog walks soon. Based on my experience, I recommend Cherokee Vet and Dr. Muller for spaying your fur baby. Thank you Dr. Muller and staff! read more

My first visit here was great! The staff were very friendly which kept my dog comfortable. The thing I appreciated the most is they didn't try to provide unnecessary extra services to increase the cost of our visit. I've taken my dog to other fancy places (I won't name them here) that are in the business of selling nonsense. They provided exactly what I intended for him to receive when I made the appointment. I took my 50lb bully to be spayed here. The service here was half the price anywhere else so I was skeptical of the service at first. I was happy to discover they were very professional and the clinic appeared to be clean. My girl had c-section prior to us receiving her and I was worried about the procedure and how well she would do. When I picked her up, Ashley offered to lift her in the car for me and she showed me how to lift her properly. The scar was very small and she's on the mend without any complications. They chipped her when I got there and I could hear my girl whining while it was happening and I also heard the person helping her being very loving towards her during her discomfort. I'm very thankful for Cherokee vet. When I called to check on her during the day I had to leave a message but they called me back pretty quickly. No complaints here! Excellent staff and service. DO NOT TAKE YOUR PETS HERE !!!!! The staff is extremely unprofessional and unsafe. Breanie was rude, impatient, aggressive, and even slammed my cat's carrier on the ground. The manager excused her behavior instead of addressing it. I've also seen other reviews mentioning animals getting infections after procedures, which is deeply concerning. I feel bad I don't remember their names but I could not thank the two ladies at the front desk and the doctor enough! I do foster a lot of babies and was looking for a place to neuter and spay my two foster pups. Every where was booked out or extremely pricey. Cherokee happened to call me back with a cancellation and even could do one of the pups dental cleaning too. The cost of both spay/neutering and dental exam was a quarter of the price I was quoted else where! I'm soooo thankful to these guys for taking such good care of my babies. Although my dog is a client at their facility, when we had an emergency, the person we spoke to on the phone was nonchalant, like it was no big deal and said, oh, well, we can get your dog in 5 days from now, even though he wouldn't eat, he was lethargic, and he wasn't himself. We asked what in the world we should do in the meantime, if he's not eating and they said, if we thought it was an emergency, we should take them to the emergency room in a town, thirty more minutes away from us. I worked with a rescue group to obtain dental surgery for my two small dogs last week. Both were up to date on all vaccines prior to being taken in, and only one dog had any discomfort in her mouth, the other one was fine but was due for her dental work as well so decided to do both dogs at once. The day of surgery I received a call from the rescue stating that surgery was taking longer than expected, no explanation why. I picked up my dogs from the rescue group and brought them home to let them rest/heal and that's when all the problems started. I had no post-op instructions or things to watch for, just a copy of the doctors charts that were nearly impossible to decode. One dog refused to eat ANYTHING. After 3 days I contacted the rescue and was told it was likely just her reaction to the anesthesia. After 5 days of having to liquify food and force feed my dog with a syringe I noticed a huge lump forming on her neck/chest. I immediately called the vet at 1:05pm on Saturday, and their voicemail advised they were closed until Monday. I contacted the rescue group and did not receive anything back. Luckily, I have a friend who is a vet tech that was willing to take a look at her, and advised we take her in immediately to be seen. She developed a huge infected abscess in her neck, and had to have tubes inserted for drainage, multiple antibiotics prescribed, and has to undergo a series of laser treatments. Her official lab work just came back today with a MRSA infection diagnosis. My other dog by day two of healing developed a cough (kennel cough) that she passed to my other puppy in the house. Although the cost of their dental surgeries was GREAT (roughly about $800 total for both) I have now spent over $2500 ADDITIONAL to fix the problems caused by their surgeries. The cost will continue to rise as I finish up the rest of the needed treatments for all 3 dogs now. The rescue did attempt to have Cherokee get in touch with me. Marilyn left me a message stating she didn't know what went wrong and that there was no kennel cough going through their facility and to call her back. I did call back, and was told she was busy and would call me later. I received another voicemail saying we would touch basis the next day, and then never received a follow up call. I am devastated at the quality of care they received and at this point am just praying we can get the infection under control before she dies. read more

I inherited a cat whose owner is currently at university in Edinburgh. Switch is an all white, 17 year old man cat that has severe food allergies and had one of the rankest cases of kitty breath you could imagine. It's common for cats and dogs to have dental problems as they age and Switch was no exception. He would never let me get near his mouth and I could tell he was in pain, so naturally I thought to myself, there's gotta be a way to get him feeling better. Last fall I took him to his vet in Berkeley and they quoted me $1200-1500 for potential extractions, cleaning, anesthesia, and antibiotics. Apparently prices like these are very common in the Bay Area. I could not afford these prices, but I knew that I still wanted to help Switch. I searched for low income clinics in Sacramento and was directed to Cherokee Vet Hospital in Lodi. I contacted them and they were kind, clear, and professional. When I explained my situation, we immediately set a date for his procedure and I was quoted at $4-500 for his dental surgery. This was a price I could work with and pay the rent. I arrived an hour early to a faded yellow & blue, one story building with a small parking lot. The vet hospital has a simplistic look. It's not flashy, but it's clean and a well-run facility in my opinion. I was greeted kindly, offered to run labs on Switch and to take him for me if I wanted. I opted to run labs and wait to meet the vet when he arrived. He was also professional and easy to talk to. I felt confident that Switch was in good hands. Three hours later, I get a phone call telling me my little guy's ready to go! I was stoked because I got to beat traffic and Switch would soon be feeling a whole lot better. It's been about a month since his procedure and he's had a full recovery without any complications. The vet pulled out 9 remaining rotten teeth and while he's a little gummy when we play, he's SO much happier (and way less smelly) than he was before. I took my cat Sadie (she is my profile pic) here for 2 years. Dr. McCulloch was great - excellent rapport with Sadie and a genuinely nice person. The staff were always great too - you could just tell that they were real animal lovers. I boarded Sadie here several times as well, and never had any problems. The staff would always comment on Sadie - one even nicknamed her "my pelican" because she has such a funny high voice and would greet the staff every time. They do both cats and dogs here, but they have separate entrances for each which is a great bonus! Oh, and I almost forgot - you can tell that they really care about animals because they have taken in some animals in unfortunate circumstances. read more

When my cat Nicky was having bladder issues, they worked with me on pricing, since he was coming in so frequently. They're friendly and seem like they really love pets. Since I moved to Stockton, my cat Cosmo has been having tooth pain and needed a cleaning/extraction. I was quoted under $200 at Cherokee, but being in Stockton I decided to go somewhere closer. BIG MISTAKE! I went to the place on Thornton and they had me wait over 45 minutes to be quoted $1,700 for the same procedure!!! Not only were they expensive, but they bashed another vet that helped me through a rough time. Guess I'll be driving all the way to Lodi where I can get friendly help and not have it cost me more than my rent! Cosmo won't be happy, but at least he'll be in good hands. I take my 2 dogs and 2 cats here. My animals have been all pretty healthy and they are treated great here. One of my cats had many issues as a kitten and they gave my baby the best care ever. My cat struggled w an ongoing skin issue lasting a few months and was losing his hair it was so looking when I took him into vet, it was so bad looking bad but they treated him and many visits and now he has a big full mane of hair again!! He had a fall and ligament issue, I know he's a clumsy big fat kitty but he is able to jump again and he had stomach issues and a UTI but Dr. Stanton has always treated him so well and cured him from all ailments he has had. read more

If I could give 100 stars & reviews I would! This weekend my poor dog was diagnosed with pyometra & very sick. We went for a routine visit & her vet told us she needed immediate surgery or she would die. We called around in neighboring cities to no avail . No ones available due to Covid or do not have surgeons who were willing to help last minute. Everyone's attitude was very much "sorry that sucks your dogs sick and dying"..The one place we did find requested $6,000 upfront & we just didn't have that to give at the moment. Fortunately, we got her on antibiotics & it bought us one night. I called everywhere & by the 24th call got blessed with the Cherokee vet staff, spoke to Diana who was so kind & Vet Lynn performed her surgery within the same few hours that day. They take such good care of my fur babies ! If you are in need of a vet for the average animal then look no farther ! They are always very nice to me and my animals . I call them a often with questions and they're always very happy and kind they get back to me pretty quickly with answers. It is a very comfortable environment as they have a canine entrance and a cat entrance so if your dogs do not get along with cats you do not have to worry about your cat being harassed by a dog or if you have a little dog like me you don't have to worry about your little dog being harassed by cats ! Lol ! Now if you have a animal with a chronic condition I do not think this is the place for treatment of that . I have a special needs dog he has a collapsed trachea and they were great at first with treating him . But as time has gone on they were not able to keep up and treat him correctly . Instead of telling me they did not know enough about this condition they treated him and it did not work out the best for my dog . When my dogs coughing got worse the only option they offered me was maybe it was "time to put him to sleep" ! Instead of saying maybe you should look into a more specialized vet for this condition . Well I was not about to put my dog down just because they could not help him . Not if he (my dog) was not in pain and something could be done about the collapsed trachea . I have educated myself online about the condition and found that there are many other treatments options . Way more then what this vet office has offered . So my search started . I found another vet that had more knowledge and is treating him (my dog) now . My dog is now doing better now then he ever did on the treatment this vet office provided . With all that said i do believe that Cherokee Vet is a great place for your fur babies ! They are good for any animal that does NOT require a specialized treatment plan . They did what they could for my dog and are wonderful people . I just had to find a more updated and specialized vet for my dogs problem . I still take my other animals here . read more

Cherokee Vet, Dr. Stanton is a fabulous Doctor: very knowledgeable, skilled and most important a caring Doctor. He looks at your pert as an important little being on this earth. I adopted 3 Persian kitties (all rescues) over the last 3 years. One was in final months of his life when I adopted him. I wanted to be sure he was loved up in his final days, and comfortable with no pain if possible as his original people dropped him off in a field to die a painful death. (Deaf and lame due to a back injury resulting in severe nerve damage where his hind hip and tail (dragging on ground) were severely compromised. In addition he was in kidney failure. He was still a super sweet loving Himalayan kitty through all his pain.) Dr. Stanton was very compassionate. He took a personal interest in this old and suffering extra sweet kitty. His findings and medications gave Mr Angel another 7 months of quality of life - no pain and ability to move around better. - A life of just being a happy senior kitty. This kitty knew he was truly loved right through to his final days. Dr. Stanton is one of the best vets I have had the pleasure of dealing with across several states in 25 years. I rescued a stray dog (9-10 years old) about 6 months ago, and he recently started to get nauseous, lethargic, and just wasn't himself. The vet I was going to before in Stockton was ripping me off, making me do outrageous tests and uncalled for requests, all while not giving my dog anything to help in the mean time of him being sick. I couldn't stand it, so I was referred to Cherokee Vet Hospital by one of my co-workers who swears by them (although his regular vet here passed away not to long ago). I called and asked when the soonest appointment would be and they said that they couldn't get me in until the following week. To my dismay, I accepted only because I knew this is where I wanted my dog to be seen. After the receptionist asked me what was going on, I proceeded to tell her about my dogs symptoms and him not being able to eat or keep anything down. She immediately opened up a slot for me the following day! I couldn't have been more pleased! Yesterday was my actual appointment, and although it's a quite busy office, the staff there really takes the time with you and your pets needs. The Vet Dr. I saw (Dr. Jill) was awesome. She took the time to understand what my dog's past was like (while I had had him) and what the diagnosis could be. She wasn't beating around the bush, and had requested blood tests to be done, and gave me some vitamins to give to him as an IV while the tests were still in the lab. Although my dog's journey to wellness isn't over, I believe that this place will lead me in the right direction, and keep my dog's health in mind. read more

I took my AKC registered Cane Corso puppy to Dr. Stanton to have her ears cropped. I was referred to him by multiple, reputable breeders as well as another veterinary hospital in Sacramento. I live 4 hours away, so given the distance, I was able to speak to the clinic multiple times over the phone. My extensive questions were ALL answered in a friendly, informative manner and I was accommodated on multiple levels by both the staff and Dr. Stanton. Dr. Stanton is the most personable medical staff member (human patient and otherwise!) I've had the pleasure to meet. He genuinely cared about my concerns and spoke with me extensively about everything I had questions about. Long over due review! Back in February we adopted two stray female pups off the streets in stockton. Both were thin, neglected, scared and homeless. We decided to take them into the vet to have them checked out since we had a rescue at home already . We had them a week before bringing them in here , in that week we worked with getting them comfortable but they were still scared . Had never been on a leash that we knew of... from the moment we walked in until we walked out the staff and vet were very patient , loving and helpful with our girls . The vet gave us a clear bill of health on the girls and we decided to get them all their shots! The pricing for the two was so reasonable and we felt very comfortable having them help our two new members . I highly recommend this vet for any one looking for people who genuinely care about your animals . they even complemented us on how we've managed to open these two up in just a week! We still have the girls and they are the happiest and healthiest ever and I have to thank the staff here for that because they gave me a piece of mind and price I could afford.. We have been taking our animals to Cherokee vet for about 5 years now. Last week I made the agonizing decision to put down my 19 year old cat. I called and they said they had to squeeze me in and I may have to wait a bit to see the Dr. I agreed and made the appointment. I waited in the waiting area no more than 5 minutes and the whole experience was handled with such compassion and dignity I was blown away. The whole staff was outstanding!
