It has taken me a while to write this review, but I think it is important. In June of 2022 I noticed a small cyst on my senior dogs' hind leg. It was a Saturday, so I made a note to call our vet on Monday and make an appointment. By Monday, it had doubled in size. Our regular vet said they didn't have any appointments for almost 6 weeks, so I went straight to Yelp and started calling well rated Vets in my area. Arbor was my second call and they were able to get us in for an appointment in just a few days. Our appointment was with Dr. Matt Woodall. He was friendly and suggested we do a fine needle aspiration and send the cells off for analysis to make sure it was benign. At that time, I was charged $53 for the office visit and $203 for the needle aspiration and analysis. By the end of the month, we received a call from Dr. Woodall advising that the sample was inconclusive. I was very disappointed but after the procedure I had read that there was a 25% chance this could happen. When I asked about my options, the vet advised we could: observe the lump and see if it continues to grow, try the FNA again, or schedule a surgery to remove it. I was given an original estimate of $816 - $1344 for the surgery. Because the pathology report stated there was "markedly increased numbers of" disease fighting blood cells an I knew that could be an indication of infection or cancer, I decided to have it surgically removed. I requested she have her teeth cleaned and nails trimmed while she was under anesthesia and the doctor added that to the estimate. He also stated he would need x-rays before preforming the surgery and added that to the estimate as well. The revised estimate was $1809.75 on the low end and $2126 on the high end. I am including all of this information because these events are costly, scary and stressful on pet-owners and most of us don't have thousands of dollars saved but it's challenging to get any type of price estimate until you have done an office visit. I am just hoping this will help anyone who is unsure if what they are being told/charged is reasonable. Ultimately, I paid $1,290.80 for the surgery, including around $225 for x-rays I did not get copies of and never saw. That is just one small part of my low rating, however. After the procedure, Dr. Woodall advised that they were unable to do the teeth cleaning or nail trim because the removal took longer than expected. He explained that the mass was not all together in a single "blob" but rather that there were small bits spread out and it was difficult to get, but most importantly to me, he advised me that he could not even be sure that he had removed it all. My heart sank. When we got the lab results from the removed mass, it confirmed that it was a cancerous mast cell tumor. The doctor stated that it was possible this would come back and gave us a list of oncologists should we need to contact one in the future. I am sure that the vet did the best he could but I will always worry about her cancer returning and wonder if a more experienced vet could have done a better job. That being said, if this were a review for Dr. Woodall, I would be giving 4 stars. This is not a review for Dr. Woodall because he has left this practice but the majority of my experience here was with him. This is a review for Arbor Pet clinic and I do not believe they are at all deserving of their (current) 4 star rating. First of all, the facility itself is standard and comparable to multiple others in Lodi, with the exception of the very small exam rooms. Second, they also seem to book a lot of appointments and have a full waiting room and/or multiple people waiting outside. Third, we had issues with the administrative staff making mistakes. Lastly, in my opinion, Dr. Turner is rude, grating and unprofessional. While paying for our services, he interrupted the receptionist on multiple occasions, which in itself would have been bad enough, but the way he spoke to her was condescending and when he told her to "get it right this time" it was very uncomfortable for all of us. Also while I was waiting at an earlier appointment, a woman with a bunny came inside to check in for her appointment and told the staff she would wait outside. There were two dogs in the waiting room so I understand wanting to be outside and try and keep your animal calm. A few minutes later, Dr, Turner came around the corner and yelled her name and when no one responded he asked the staff where she was and said loudly "My time is valuable. Call the next one then." When someone notified her and she came in literally seconds later, he told her to her face "I don't have time to be waiting for you." and I was honestly shocked when she went ahead with the appointment. I hope all this information was helpful to anyone considering coming here and I wish you and your fur babies the best of luck! read more

I would ignore the reviews regarding Dr. Turner's attitude. He is one of the best vets you can bring any animal to. If you spend enough time and money with him, you'd know that he cares about every single animal that comes into his clinic and spends extra time with any animal that needs it. He's professional and tries to divide his time equally with each pet that comes in. On top of that, he makes sure that he doesn't overcharge any owner no matter what. The front desk is wonderful and caring despite having to see pets and owners in pain everyday, they still maintain a positive attitude. I live a long ways but it's worth every mile. We've been to Arbor Pet Clinic three times now over the past three years with our two birds (given to us by our daughter - lol) to have their beaks and claws trimmed. Dr. Turner is the absolute worst as far as human-to-human interaction. He's rude, he rarely looks you in the eye, and he enjoys throwing rapid-fire questions at you about how you're caring for your own pet(s). Yes, he did do a decent job on our birds, which is the reason why we went to him; however, this last time, I had just lost my Mom the week before, my husband told him that, and his attitude didn't change one bit. I was this close to walking out but, instead, we're now going to another Clinic who treats all of us with a little more kindness. It doesn't take much and he is certainly old-enough and experienced-enough to know that a bedside manner does matter... even a little bit. read more

Wow. I wish i had found Arbor sooner. I have rabbits and Dr Turner is passionate abt rabbits and takes their care very seriously. The most knowledgeable and experienced vet on rabbits i have met over these many years. The vet tech, a young lady, handled my rabbits expertly during their thorough exam. I trust them. Thats alot for me to say. The other vets ive been to are caring but rabbits are not in their wheelhouse like they are here. He also recommended an emergency vet (all creatures, stockton) and i so appreciated that. Just moved here last year and thankfully hadnt needed one. Been to a terrible one in downtown Berkeley that made me super reticient to ever pursue that kind of care again. read more

Dr. Turner may be a little rough around the edges, but he is a master at his craft. If you can look past his gruff exterior you will find that he will bend over backwards to ensure your pet has the absolute best medical care available. You would think with his expertise that it would be extremely expensive, but Dr. Turner keeps your pocket book in mind and is an advocate for providing affordable veterinary care. My kitty, Nemo, who passed away 2yrs ago, had kidney disease. He had been on fluids for 7yrs and was stable, but things took a turn and he was at my local E.R. Marqueen Emergency. At the end of a few days in the hospital and a large bill, I was told there wasn't anything more we could do. That's when my very good friend told me about Dr. Turner. With additional help of vitamins and supplements, Nemo had another happy year. When he passed away it wasn't because of his kidneys and Dr. Turner was determined to try anything to keep him around in spite of the cancer that had ravaged his body, but Nemo let us know that he was ready to go. If it wasn't for Dr. Turner I wouldn't have had that extra year with the spunkiest, silliest, and friendliest cat anyone ever met. I'm on my way back with my other kitty and I'm 100% confident that if it can be diagnosed, addressed and/or fixed it would be with Dr. Turner. Review for desk staff only as I've never taken my pets here. Called inquiring about emergency walk in services, as my 10 year old cat suddenly collapsed this morning. This was the first vet that came up and I called immediately. Person who answered the phone told me I could go to the emergency vet in Stockton when they open at 6pm. It is 9:30 in the morning and my pet is having an emergency now. What use would I have for a vet in stockton in 8.5 hours? No offer to help or inquire about my emergency. I had to ask if they knew anyone who could see my cat immediately and was put on hold. The animal hospital in Lodi I ended up at was gracious enough to ask me what was going on when I asked them if they did emergency walk ins. They told me to come immediately and they would take him in. My cat unfortunately died before I could get there. The other vet was very kind and helped me make arrangements for his body. Based on today, I would never recommend Arbor Pet Clinic. read more

I will drive over a few hundred miles to come here after they saved my dog's life. I have taken my Lab/Retriever mix of 9 years to two separate vets for him not acting like himself resulting in my last vet prescribing a medication without preforming bloodwork. All of a sudden my Puppy would not eat any food (major red flag), had a weird body shake thing, drank twice the amount of water, and needed to go outside all of the time. I took him right back in and they performed a blood test (for the first time). They called to say that nothing seemed to be too concerning other then his kidney levels were a little high, which is to be expected with an older dog. This just did not seem right, for when your puppy is not acting like himself, something is up. That's when a friend recommended Mr. Turner to me. After a quick consult they asked me to bring him in right away the next morning. From the moment I entered the facility to the follow up after leaving, the staff is the absolute best! They performed blood tests right away to find that Jake's liver was also acting up and they kept him over night to monitor with IVs, antibiotics, and supplements. Dr. Turner followed up with a phone call the next morning and quickly told me the facts, his condition, and that I could pick him up. Upon arrival the staff was friendly (though they were really busy). Dr. Turner explained all that they had done for my puppy, and that he could go home with a special diet, oral antibiotics, and the promise that I would call with an update on him. My dog hates the groomer or being left anywhere without his family so I was happily surprised to find him in happy spirits when he came through the door to me. That tells me way more about this amazing clinic that anything else could. They don't just treat the animals that come through the doors, but they actually care about them and love them too. Now back at home, he is acting 110% better and will be having his check ups with the friendly staff at this facility (even though I have to drive an hour to get there). If only I could capture how grateful I am in words for this facility prolonging my much loved dog's life, I would. Until then, I am recommending everyone I know to this office and will continue to do so. read more

I recommend that you and your pet go to Arbor Pet Clinic. All the staff there were always caring and compassionate towards the needs of our bird and our dog until her last day with us. Everyone there is very professional and courteous, but what really sets them apart is their attention to detail and dedication to the vet-pet owner relationship , even when they get very busy. For instance, Dr. Turner would call us himself when he could, to check on our bird and to explain our dog's diagnosis personally. Other places we've been to, we've only talked to the doctors during visits. Not only that, Dr. Turner is one of the few veterinarians around here with knowledge and prowess to treat birds. Jessica, up front, has always been amicable with us whenever we'd come in for an appointment as well and helpful with any questions we had. I came to this veterinarian office at the recommendation of another office when my regular vet did not have any appointments available for my sweet k9 Riley. Upon calling Arbor Pet Clinic, I was provided with a same day appointment with Dr. Woodall. Dr. Woodall was very attentive to Riley during the exam and offered to proceed with a conservative approach to treatment and to see if she would be feeling better. Unfortunately, and at no fault of the vet, the treatment provided Riley with temporary relief and the symptoms eventually returned. I called the vet and was able to bring her in timely for additionally testing. Again, we were greeted by Dr. Woodall and provided thorough care for Riley. Unfortunately, the diagnosis received was devastating to say the least but was provided to us with compassion and explained thoroughly. The doctor even went beyond to obtain a second opinion. While I wish we would have been provided with better news regarding Riley I can say that the veterinary care we have been receiving has been great. Dr. Woodall has followed up with us to check in Riley and has been easy to get in touch with. I appreciate the care he has given to our beloved fur child. read more

Doctor Turner appears to be a well experienced and knowledgeable veterinarian that has plenty of documented success in assisting pet owners with a variety of animals, rodents, reptiles, and birds. This appears to be documented from other reviews, and pictures on the wall of his clinic. When considering what to expect from him as a veterinarian, he will examine your animal to assess their health and diagnose a problem, perform surgery on animals, test for and vaccinate against diseases, operate using medical equipment, prescribe medication, and euthanize animals. While he does provide these services; it appears that others in the past year along with myself have not been able to see Dr. turners vast ability as he struggled in taking the time to discuss and consult with pet owners to better understand the needs of the pet in whole. His assessment of health is abrupt and quick, and he will quickly diagnose a problem without discussion or providing other options. When meeting him during your appointment or consulting with him over the phone about your pet he struggles with even greeting you and will immediately state, "I am very busy," more than once during your conversation (Documented 02/08/2022 in person and 02/10/2022 via phone). While he does mean well and I do believe that he is a capable veterinarian, he is so rushed that he is quick to tell you what a pet may need without walking you through his thought process and explaining it to you as the pet owner. This is something that as the owner is very important and as a veterinarian helps you to build and sustain relationships with your clients. When attempting to consult with him to get more information he will talk quickly, rush through the conversation and overload/overwhelm you with vague yet similar experiences that other pets of the same species have had in his clinic, talk about price comparison, and tell you that if you choose to not go through with the surgery that there is more than one other patient that can take their spot. All of this happening without directly answering your questions and interrupting you. Unfortunately, his statement of being too busy does appear to translate to other areas of his job given reviews where patients have been provided expired medications, and other pet owners have lost their pet long before their expected time. Given this information and my own experience, I did not feel comfortable having him perform a surgery on my pet in fear that something would be missed or inappropriately administered. On the client end, while I am sure Dr. Turner is a compassionate doctor (as stated on their website "We are dedicated to providing the highest level of veterinary medicine along with friendly, compassionate service. We believe in treating every patient as if they were our own pet, and giving them the same loving attention and care. We are a group of highly trained, experienced animal lovers who are devoted to giving our patients the best care possible") it is not translated well to you when meeting with him, and he fails to patiently front load you as the client, taking the time to help you better understand what is happening to your pet, providing you as the owner with more than one option, or discussing quality of life. This may not initially impact your decision during an exam but afterward it generally leaves you uncomforted, confused, and questioning the doctor and his practice leading you to explore other reviews to see if others have experienced what you are experiencing. read more

I can't say enough positive things about Dr Turner and his staff! I have two dogs with serious medical issues... A Border Collie with severe Epilepsy and a Boston Terrier with CFE, basically a stroke in the spinal column. With my Border Collie, Dr Turner was able to get the seizures under control, when our previous vet couldn't. With my Boston, he has done innovative laser treatment as opposed to surgery, with amazing results. Not to mention, he saved me $5000 in the process. Dr. Turner and his team made me feel at ease and made me feel like my baby was getting premiere care for a reasonable price. This clinic saved my cats life and saved me easily a thousand bucks. I live in Sacramento but I will be making the drive to Lodi just to make Dr. Turner this households regular vet. Compassion is something that has been lacking in veterinary care in the Sacramento area, but Dr. Turner is a breath of fresh air in the industry. I am humbled and grateful to have met your team and look forward to a future of high quality care with you all. Thank you a million times from the bottom of my heart. Updated to add: I am highly paranoid apparently and was concerned that my kitty wasn't healing how he should be so I called Dr. Turner and explained the situation. He told me to bring him in, then examined him at no cost on a SATURDAY with an hour's notice of my arrival. Kitty was fine and Dr. Turner gave me some more education on the issue and made me feel much better about the healing process. I cannot put into words how much I appreciate Dr. Turner and his amazing staff for all they have done for my fur kids and myself thoughout the years. I started going to Dr. Turner in 2016 after a rescue kitten had Panleuk. It was such a nightmare, but with his quick diagnosis he was able to save both of my boys! The compassion that he and the girls showed me when my sweet Clover lost her battle with cancer made me feel right in the decision to allow her to go. I've never had a vet call me to follow up...and he's not looking for money I can assure you that he was wanting to know how my "sweet baby" was doing. I just really could go on for days. I see reviews about the cost..and I think do you all REALLY know how much it costs to go to a vet? $8000 to VCA for a cat with cancer...$6000 for a dental on a kitten. Do they take Care credit? I dont know but who has a card for 14,000$? I've always walked out of his office smiling as I know I've given them the best chance possible and I love his sense of urgency because as he tells me "I have critical animals back there". Wouldn't you want him to get back to your baby as well. Because of Dr. Turner at 51 years old I'm thinking about going back so I can be a vet tech and work under him. He just knows....!!! The professionalism of the place leaves a lot to be desired. Although we have always received appropriate medical care for our dog (if we can even get an appointment), the staff isn't very caring. The techs who directly handle the animals while taking them in and out are kind but the front desk is rude. They are overly blunt, condescending and frankly mean often times. The only reason we've had to return to that place is because we already had our puppy getting his shot there. You'd think that they'd be more caring to pet owners but they act annoyed but questions and it's difficult to get an appointment. If you care about bed side manner, don't go here!! I brought my bearded dragon, Flapjack, to Dr Turner the day after a trip to All Creatures emergency vet in Folsom (also owned by Dr Turner). Flapjack was in distress, with open-mouth breathing. I won't go into all the details, but after several days of care he passed away. I was, and still am, devastated. This happened about a month ago. At first I was put off by Dr Turner's manner, but learned after a few conversations that he is extremely caring and compassionate. He tried his best to save Flapjack, I'm convinced of that. I feel that I brought him in for care too late by not recognizing early symptoms. When I went to pick Flapjack up from the clinic so I could bring him home and lay him to rest, they gave him to me in a box that a staff member had decorated with Flapjack's name. It was so touching! Dr Turner charged me almost nothing for Flapjack's care. He was very compassionate and regretted that he couldn't save him. Although his clinic is in Lodi and I live in Sacramento, I will be bringing a new beardie to him for care once I adopt a new little scaly guy. read more

Waited in a room for 2 hours for my dogs ear to be cleaned. Extremely rushed for how long I waited. Just to be told they forgot about me. Gave my dog two doses of medicine because of her weight, but only told me about one. Then charged me for both. They gave me a $400 bill without explaining the medications, other then when and how to take them. Found the same medicine for HALF the price! When contacting them they showed little to no care.
