I was fortunate enough to attend a wedding reception here last week. Slightly more than your run-of-the-mill park, there was only a little left to be desired.
Pulling into the park, right along the Mississippi River, I had high hopes for a nice walk with views to compliment it. However, we had to duck over to the pavilion first. Self-decorated, the wedding party turned this generic pavilion into a nice reception hall. Complete with grills and picnic tables, we were able to have quite a celebration! It is conveniently located shouting distance from the playground and restrooms. Although not an extremely large park, there was enough space to share with all of the others attending the park that day.
Now back to my walk. After a break in the festivities, my lady and I decided to attempt a walk by the river. As we neared the river, we realized there was a fence along the raised shoreline. Great for safety, as the hill drops off into the river pretty quickly, but not visually satisfying. I did see a sign for a 'scenic walk', but every glimpse of a path was covered in bushes and brush. (May be due to lack of maintenance from the government shutdown.) As I said earlier, this was the only part that was left to be desired.
A great place for a picnic, party, or just to hang out. I don't get to this part of St. Paul much, but next time I am in the area, I might just see if the trails have opened up! read more
