It was not as crowded yesterday at the falls as usual, probably due to the 4th of July holiday when people are more attracted to going to free festivals in preparation for firework shows. We took a short hike down several flights of steps and along the creek stemming from the falls. Lots of people were picnicking and/ir playing in the water, a perfect pastime on a humid warm summer day. Due to the recent rains last week, the falls were full and fast flowing.

The gardens at Mears Park are so pretty and you can tell they are cared for with lots of love. The flowing water feature through the park is really special. It engages visitors by inviting them to cross the stream on the boulder stepping stones. It feels exciting even if it's such a small stream. I was very impressed with this park and hope that next time I am in St. Paul I will pay it another visit and see more details in the gardens.

There's a large amphitheater for outdoor performances, and the park has fantastic seating options with benches spread out all over the place. The location is incredibly convenient, too--it's an easy walking distance from both the St. Paul Farmers Market and Union Depot. It's a wonderful, easy place to walk through and a especially nice spot to sit and eat some ice cream in the summer.

There's a section with a free parking lot, a small beach for swimming (no lifeguard), bathrooms and an actual paved trail, as well as dirt trails. There is also a slight incline on the trails, which is nice for those wanting an extra workout challenge. The trails are also well maintained. The bonus was that the weather was perfect today (no bugs) and we saw a deer! If you go deep into the woods, you don't hear the traffic and it really feels like you're deep in nature. Carver Lake is better for outdoor activity compared to La Lake Park. They're probably less than a mile apart, so if you're close to both, just go to Carver.

It spans 34 acres and is named after Charles Loring, an American businessman, miller and publicist who was the first Minneapolis Park Board and considered the "Father of the Park System" in Minneapolis. The park has an astounding flower garden. It was very pretty. You will also find a very nice lake/wetland here. It has seating and is very soothing. The lake is home to many animals. Fishing is welcome at the lake. They even have a fishing pier. The park has a full basketball court and a half-court basketball court that are in great shape. The park's horseshoe pits could use some TLC, though. The park is home to about 10 pits. If you are a pickleball player, then the park has a couple of nice courts to play on. Other park amenities include tennis courts, shuffleboard, and two playground areas on wood-chip beds. One area is fenced in and is for smaller children. This area has a bank of swings, a saucer swing, slides, a modern merry-go-round, a bebble bridge, and a jungle gym. The other playground area, for older kids, has a climbing net, balance beam, slides, pebble bridge, and rock climbing wall. This area is not fenced in. I have seen a lot of parks, and this is a nice one. They host events such as movie screenings, ice skating, and lunchtime concerts. You can easily spend half a day here. I really enjoyed my time here and am sure that you will too.

It has a beautiful lake surrounding by greenery, food and shopping outlet including Pins, Yogurt shops, RH rooftop up the street, and fun for the family. You can mini-golf or rent a swan boat for $30 for 45 minutes or swing on their beautiful lakes or get some work done in the Gazebo seating area. This is a popular destination for Farmer's market, taking photos, and even weddings. Never a dull time here, its so peaceful and relaxing. I've even had a few dates here (wink wink).

Sure, it isn't as big as its brother Bruce Vento, and I can't take the quadruped off the leash ala Battle Creek, but it is so convenient and full of history that I don't care. Apparently there are some neighborhood get togethers in this place every once in a while. There is also a local artist who takes to drawing a whole lotta phallus in chalk, seriously, every day I see a new one. The steps off to the side are perfect for your own Rocky re-enactment too. It connects right to Bruce's field across the way, and you can watch the trains go by or scope out the little caves. Pretty nifty if you ask me.
