I wouldn't be surprised if they did because that was the most people I have ever seen at a collegiate soccer game. There were programs, signed pics of Smokey, orange and white Pom poms, t-shirts for first 500 in line, pic opportunities with Smokey 10, bounce house, concession stands, food trucks (Goodwins). Overall, lively atmosphere and a lot to see and do. Parking and accessing stands was easy and cost to attend was free! Can't get much better than that. We sat in the second row up (you have super obstructed views of the field in 1st row) due to small kids who don't do stairs well. I would recommend 4th row and up if you can with so many people walking and stopping in front of you. Very family-friendly, with the exception of no mask mandate for kids in the crowded bounce houses. Can't wait to come back!

We have been to a couple of games when they played at the Lady Vols stadium, but this was our first trip to their new complex at the Emerald Youth Foundation. The field is a really great setup for watching pro soccer up close and personal. We saw The Force play against Chattanooga, and for our first visit, it was initially a little overwhelming. One of my complaints about Knoxville is that we're always a little too wholesome and a little too cool to do something anything more than half-assed. That's my beef with where we first sat. We were dead in the middle of the field, which happened to be the cheering section, we later found out. The cheering section was squeaky clean and had no edge. Chattanooga out-cheered Knoxville's entire cheering effort in the first five minutes of us being there. This annoyed us enough that we moved down to the corner where we weren't staring into the sun. We were closer to Chattanooga's cheering section, and away from our half-assed and annoying cheering section. From that point on, we were able to really enjoy the game. The level of play was pretty good, and the game ended in a tie, which kept it exciting. In short, I'm VERY happy that we have a professional soccer team that we can enjoy locally.

As a former camper and staff member of Camp Highlander there aren't enough wonderful words to…read moredescribe this camp. Highlander is a co-ed overnight summer camp in the hills of Mills River,NC devoted to children ages 5-16. Campers come back year after year, and all year long you hear stories of children who wish they were still at camp. The camp used to be owned by a school in south Florida, but now is owned by a wonderful family named the Alexanders. At camp you can go swimming, hiking, there's a ropes course, horse back riding, climbing wall, arts n crafts, pottery, rec room, campfires, swing dancing, talent shows, concerts, cookouts, basketball, soccer, drama classes, camping and so much more. Wednesdays and Saturdays campers get to choose their schedules, all other days campers remain in cabin groups where they meet friends and bond with others. Off camp trips include camping in the Pisgah National Forest, Sliding Rock, Coon Tree (a big rock you jump off of into the water), trips to Lake Keowee in South Carolina, white water rafting down the Nantahala River, theme parks, hiking in the Blue Ridge Mountains, farmers markets, horse shows, and so much more. Schedules change every year and new events happen. There's a small lake on the property but they travel to larger lakes for water skiing and wakeboarding. The camp runs in 2 week, 3 week, 6 week and 9 week sessions. You can stay as little as 2 and as long as 6. Most of the staff members return each year and are dedicated to children on the mountain. The camp was even featured on the Disney Channel show Bug Juice which was filmed in the summer of 1999 and aired on tv in 2000.

Set your navigation for "off the beaten path" with a trip to Roper Park in Jasper GA. Nestled…read morebetween Jasper and Tate, just past the end of 575, you'll find plenty of green space for a day in the park. Diamonds and soccer fields stay busy with rec league teams, with the occasional cross country meet, including twice in fall. These races have been our reason to visit the past several years, and we've witnessed the positive evolution of the space in that time. A large playground area will keep the younger participants happy, with colorful barriers surrounding to increase the safety and fun factors. Watch out for flying round projectiles from the games surrounding on all sides though. Grab time with the orange roundball on outdoor courts or in the Pickens County Community Center adjacent, then cool off in the outdoor pool in warm seasons. Run/walk/jog on the 1-2 miles of winding paths throughout the park, and follow the exercise signs along the way for a little cross-training. Take a thoughtful break at the Peace Pole monument courtesy of the Rotary Club of Jasper, then move on to percussion with the musical feature nearby. Plenty of parking at the community center and along the back of the park, and on race weekends at the school across the street. Don't miss the infamous tunnel on your way across the highway, taking care since it's part of the 5K course. I'll be back at least once more for another late-season race, and hopefully after that.

I wanted to see the sunflowers which was about a mile from the parking lot. Next time, I'll visit in peak bloom, but I walked around the sunflower field and found a few that were still in bloom. Dogs are welcome if they're on a leash. There are a few tables and benches along the way for a snack or picnic. No restrooms, but Ijams Nature Center isn't too far away.

What a lovely park! We've been making our rounds to all of the parks in the area and this one was…read moreperfect to explore in the morning before it gets lava hot. Many mature trees and the surrounding pond cool down the playground area. There is ample parking and a large restroom facility which are both convenient. Pavilion area that you can rent and a few docks jutting out into the water are nice touches, as is the extensive walking trail that goes around the park and surrounding neighborhoods. As for the play area, it is well-maintained and there is a large sandbox that is clearly very popular (hence, why I didn't take a photo with so many littles enjoying it). The playset has lots of stationary toys on it as well as an abundance of slides. The swing area is separated from the playground and has some unique swing options. Note that the sandbox and playground is directly next to the pond, so if you get high anxiety with young kiddos around bodies of water or have runners, you may want to forgo this park (or at least ensure you have an extra set of eyes/hands with you).
