Upon…read morearrival, there are limited options for leaving the station to your hotel or adventures: foot, taxi, or tram. There are NO UBERS in Dresden. Taxis are only located in the main entrance. If you exit the side or back, you will not find a taxi even if the signs say there are. There are no taxis but in the main entrance. Once you exit the train, there are stairs, I did not see any elevators to exit the tracks. This means you need to pick up your luggage to climb up/down the stairs. Make sure if you have luggage that you can pick it up, there is nobody to assist with your luggage. The train station like all stations have no heating or cooling. Dress appropriately. Food: there is Rewe to go, Subway, le Crobag, and some other food options within the station and then near the tracks there are minimal food options. Seating: limited seating above the track area. Bathrooms: 1 euro to use, I did not use them.

The main station has all the normal things you'd expect but smaller. There are several bakeries, a Subway sandwich, shop, and other places to eat and make small purchases. If you're coming from the United States, don't even try using your Uber app. Ubers do not run in Dresden. Exit through the main doors and then look to the left for a small taxi line. Also, public transit in Dresden is fairly easy to use. There's a tram station only a few minute walk from the station. Trams cost euro3.40 per person per trip.

I traveled around Germany by rail and this station was the most impressive one…read more Arriving from Berlin, when I first stepped off of the train, I thought I arrived back 100 years ago. Very East German style, although they were destroyed during the WWII, they restored it so nicely, they kept the old charm. I was told this is the largest railway station in the world by square meters but they were designed well, it is easy to make it connection yet going downstairs, you get to enjoy good food and shopping (it's like a huge shopping mall). This station was perhaps cleanest hauptbanhof I've visited and felt very safe there. Buying tickets and getting information on kiosk was easy to navigate. They also have information center at the ground level if you prefer to speak in person. They also have signs throughout to tell you if trains are on time. Most delays I saw was 10 mins.

This is one grim bus station... I came in here with Student Agency from Prague. Maybe it's because…read moreit was thunderstorming outside, but there's literally nothing in this tiny little train station. I don't remember seeing many food options, the waiting space is very tiny. It's also organized really weirdly--there is a top layer and a lower level which I think it a little odd and unnecessary. Not really a fan, but it does its job right... as a bus station, and you can actually see a timetable of the buses that are coming and going so that's good.
