Supposedly one of the best places in Vienna to go for alternative/rock music but doesn't really live up to the hype. Its a pretty ok place to go but is a little smallish for so many hipster/rocker/alternies. The music was okish and I guess it would be much better with a live band. The barmaid at the entrance bar is clearly in the wrong job as she was unfriendly, grumpy and rude and the barmaid at the back bar was a little loony. She had the prices of the most popular drinks written on her hands and arms and would flash the prices whenever you ordered. There is a non smoking area towards the back by the dance floor but I honestly didn't notice we were in it as the whole place was fairly smoke free. (unlike what some of the other reviewers say.) Chelsea - Bars Near Me - Vienna, 9

The only reason I'm giving Chelsea four stars instead of five is because it's so damn smokey. It is SO SMOKEY. Aside from that, this is SUCH a fun, cool place to go out/go dancing in Vienna. Friday nights are '80s nights (or were at some point), and while it can be "hipster frak central", it's still a lot of fun and definitely worth checking out, particularly if you're into '80s nights/dancing/having a good time. I absolutely adore this place, y'all, and I've made several friends/casual acquaintances* here (and practiced German like whoa!) Highly recommended! *aka, I didn't find it difficult to meet people and strike up conversations while I was there. I haven't kept in touch with most of the people, but a few, yes. read more

Among the string of bar and clubs along the gürtel, Chelsea is one of the larger and louder ones. As you might imagine, that is either a good thing or a bad thing, depending on what you're looking for. The drinks are average, the music is hit or miss, and the clientele mixed ages and types. Been to Chelsea for the first time the other day for a friend's concert, even though it is a quite famous rock bar in Vienna, I never got a chance to take a visit. It looks like a regular bar, entrance to the bar is free but to the area where they have concerts you need to pay to pass there. Price usually depends on the band. (Local bands usually i think) The prices are on the average. 2.70€ for a Spritzer! Cool bar! read more

Now if you check out my yelp buddy Andreas' page, I'm sure he's raving about how 5 star this place is, and I believe he used the word "favourite" when he was telling me about it. Warning: don't always trust your friends' taste. They are sometimes different then yours. So overview: Four main rooms, like one long hall from one room to the next in which you walk in the middle, it you can make it through the crowd. At the last room, there is a stage and sometimes live music. No cover when we were there. So I'm going to start with the positive. 1. Its near a metro line... I think 2. It has a coat check for under 2 Euros. 3. The music was pretty good the Friday night I was there. 4. The drinks are fair price, you can get a rum something for under 4 Euros I think. 5. You can stop people passing by and start talking to them, 3 out of 4 times they'll talk back, 1 out of 4 times to wonder who the hell you are. The bad: 1.The coat check is easy to miss, its in a cage in the second room after entering, and as people are walking by there's a lot of pushing and confusion. 2. its way way smokey. Horrible. 3. You have to reach out to talk to people if you want to make new friends, and its only 2 out of 4 times you get a non-confused answer back. Be aware, and it may just have been the night I was there, that those 2 out of 4 will not only talk back to you, but stalk you all night, wanting you to make out with them from the moment you said hello. Your conversation goes like this: You: "hello! Cheers!" (as you click glasses with them as they walk by) Them (as they look at your glassy eyed which you missed): "I need to make out, let's go" You: "ummm... So my name is Izzy, and this is my friend M" 4. Guys grabbing as you walk by. Yep. I thought it was my friend indicating for me to slow down as she was behind me and we were moving to another room and I thought it was odd where she grabbed me. No. It was some guy and when I turned he grabbed me again, super drunk. The guy next to me saw it and saved me by starting to talk to me. My hero. At least that is what I thought. Until I realized he was completely drunk to so it may have been just that I turned around that caught his attention. 5. Crowded. Hard to move from one location to the next. Overall: If you like grabbing, lots of smoke, totally glassy eyed drunk dudes and their seemly snobby girlfriends (I mean like hipster wannabe snob), crowds, but good music (no dancing when I was there) and decent for Vienna priced drinks, then this is your place. read more

I'm in middle with Chelsea as the concept is great and always destined to have a good time there. But either it's too smokey, crowded, only guys, or music gets worse suddenly. Somehow it's the place you are drawn to after midnight. Still check it out once. read more

The Chelsea is a bar/small underground concert hall that appeals to students and young people to come and hear bands perform (mostly rock bands). Good atmosphere but a bit too crowded at times. I could hardly see the stage - many people were blocking - that's why they placed many LCD's - so you can watch the show sitting on the bar. Many people are smoking so non-smokers beware! read more

Great bar to hear indie / alternative music (and some indie electronica as well). Kind of studenty but that's fine with us as the music was good. It's located in arches on the west side of Vienna and you can still smoke here (a bonus for us) and they do have a no-smoking area. They also have live bands here but the night we were there it was just tunes. If you're looking for a cool bar with good music, I'd highly recommend and they are open late!!!! read more
