We had a great experience at Chelka Lodge. The owners are so nice, they have adorable black labs, the location and beach is great, and they have tons of fun activities like canoes, kayaks, paddle boards, ping pong, etc. The Chelka lodge is not a mega resort hotel and they are not trying to be. For example, the rooms are not huge and luxurious, but they are just fine. The furniture and decor is a little dated, but not horrible. Just make sure you have reasonable expectations if you stay here and don't criticize aspects that they simply can't provide. We loved our stay and would absolutely return next year.

I'm giving this place a four star based on the service, amenities and upgraded rooms, even though I stayed in the less nice room which is probably more three star. My room was clean, but there was a slight smell, older bedding and chairs, and it just felt outdated. Luckily, they have fabulous amenities outside so you don't really need to use the room other than sleeping. Paddle boarding, canoeing, kayaking, shuffleboard, cornhole and more! It also has an incredible view of Lake George, and the deck overlooking it is perfect for enjoying wine at night or coffee in the morning. They do have upgraded much nicer rooms- next time I visit here I would stay in one of the house rooms on the beach.

When we arrived, all we had to do was pick up the keys. The woman in the office couldn't have been nicer. She made the room available to us a little earlier so we could get dressed for the ceremony and showed us on the map where all the events would take place. The room was large with a small fridge and coffee maker. We didn't spend much time there but we were comfortable. The grounds are lovely, a beautiful setting for a wedding. The ceremony was lakefront with cocktail hour at the nearby tavern. Cocktails, cheeses and passed hors doevres. The bacon wrapped scallops were scrumptious as were the steak empanadas. Then we moved up to the restaurant. This is a charming venue. The acoustics could be better....conversation was difficult, but maybe that was the DJs fault for not playing quieter music while dinner was being served.

One long table for all of us and thankfully far enough from the rest of the patrons because there were 6 children who never seem to run out of energy. Our server came and seemed to recognize that the key to a successful meal with children is to get them food and drinks right away and leave the adults to peruse the menu and have small talk. We had all sort of items from the appetizer menu and all of them were pretty good. No standouts and nothing to complain about. Solid food at fair prices. Entrees were good as well and of all, I think the lobster roll was probably the best dish served in terms of value and taste. Again as with the appetizers, the food was good and everyone enjoyed their meals. Everything from check-in to departure was very pleasant and we would return on a future trip.

This hotel is fabulous!…read more First and foremost - it could not be better for small children. The lake area is in a shallow cove and my kids were literally able to run out for a few minutes and still be up to their knees. There are plenty of kayaks and paddle boats to take out, and a small sandy beach area for the kids to play. There's also a pool on the property, but the lake area was great so we never even went. Rooms are a little older, but they are clean and spacious. The property is pretty small, so everything is an easy walk. There's also plenty of parking onsite. The location is also prime in Bolton and it's just a two minute drive up to all the shops and restaurants. The owners were super sweet and friendly and helped us out a few times when we were locked out of our room. Overall, this is a really nice family run hotel in Bolton and the location on the lake can't be beat. There are definitely cosmetic upgrades that could be made, but like many other hotels in the area it's a little old school. Looking forward to coming back - we had a great time here.

Amazingly found that despite the variety of guests, young and old couples, families of all age groups, destination weddings, and corporate retreats; service was spot on and our experience was unaffected. We felt at ease, secure, and serenely enjoyable. Repeated visits unveil a homey charm on a comfortable scale. Everyone I mentioned it to raved about how wonderful it is, so we arrived with high expectations and lots of anticipation. At check-in we were given a list of activities, which all looked fun -- though we later learned most didn't begin until the following day. Not a big issue, just something to be aware of if you're arriving for a short stay. We stayed in the Hermitage Lodge, and the layout of the room was actually very nice -- a downstairs kitchenette and small living area, with a beautiful loft upstairs featuring a king bed. The only drawback was having just one bathroom. Unfortunately, shortly after arriving, we noticed several ants -- first on the bed in the loft, then in the bathroom, and later in other areas of the room. Given the cold winter weather, it was surprising. We chose to mention it to the front desk the next day. They kindly offered to move us and provided a $70 credit, which we appreciated. Since we only had one night left, we decided not to relocate. At the room rate, we had hoped for a bit more in terms of condition upon arrival. We enjoyed lunch at Caldwell's and dinner at Mr. Brown's Pub, and later at La Bella Vita -- all pleasant experiences (I've reviewed those separately). The property itself is truly beautiful. In the winter, however, many of the scheduled activities and amenities seemed primarily geared toward families with young children. That's perfectly fine -- I've raised two boys, I get it -- but it wasn't quite the "grand" weekend experience we had envisioned. I can absolutely imagine that in the summer, with the stunning views of Lake George and the full range of offerings, this resort feels magical. In the winter, while still lovely, it didn't fully match our expectations for the price point. Overall, it's a beautiful property with kind staff and great dining -- just perhaps better suited to families or a summertime stay.
