The folks that run this place are diamonds in the ruff. They are so fabulously sweet, incredibly knowledgeable about cheese, olive oil, and wine & brilliant at making recommendations for all occasions and pairings! They are completely non pretentious in a world of weirdly pretentious Lodi residents.... we went in their shop thinking we would buy one or two things within about five minutes and ended up with a 65 minute discussion on cheeses and tasted about 20 varieties! We learned a ton and my three sons had a great time tasting and critiquing! We left the store with a bag of cheeses for three separate entertaining events. Each event and cheese was a huge hit! This place is my GO TO! I love cheese central. Instead of searching at my local supermarket for the possibility of my favorite gourmet cheese I take a quick ride over to Lodi. Great cheeses. Great little store. The service needs a lot of help. We may not look like the normal clientele, but our money is as green as the next person. We entered with a warm greet by the very nice lady at the cash register. Proceeded to the cheese counter. Not a lot of people, but nobody asked to help us. We finally got the attention of the young lady behind the calendar. She seemed agitated and took a deep breath and let out a sigh. I noticed other patrons sampling 10-15 cheeses. We were greeted with "can I help you with something?" We shared we were out of town and never did a cheese tasting before. Another sigh.... "What do you like", she asked. My wife shared some cheese names, but I had no idea. "Do you even like cheese", she asked. At this time I knew I may not be welcome here. I don't like to play the "race" card, but my wife is Italian and I am Mexican/black. I was dressed very appropriate as was my wife. My wife looked at me and said "is she being rude to us, or is it just me?" We tried only a few cheeses when she packed up the cheeses and moved on to the next person who just walked in (with a smile and a friendly greet). We bought two blocks of cheese, because they were awesome. Went to pay and the lady at the register was very nice, polite and complimented us on our choices of cheeses. I will go back only for her and the awesome cheeses, the other help must go. read more

The cheese girl Ashley was rude when I asked if I could try a certain cheese she said they didn't have a sample Funny how two minutes later the other lady offered her customers the exact cheese I wanted to sample. Also my friends wanted to try a Greek cheese and she refused because they had already tried a blue! Not your call Ashley! If a customer wants to try it let them!! This little shop in downtown Lodi is simply ADORABLE! We were exploring the area when we came across Cheese Central and decided we simply had to check it out. They've got cheese... and lots of it. Also plenty of fancy crackers, jams, and meats to go along. The ladies who work there are super nice and helpful, and happy to let you try anything! The class also holds classes for about $55 each on various things like how to make gnocchi from scratch or how to prepare some fresh mozzarella... fun, no?? Took a break from the wine tour and did a chesse tour. They have so many cheeses and they are out of this world. After trying almost every cheese there, I fell in love with the creamy yellow cheddar with onions and chives and the goat cheese that has honey in it . Yummy!!!!! read more

This store is perfect in every way. Cheese, crackers, spread, and some meats to go with it. What more could one ask for to go along with cheese?! We've been here a few times, the cheese is amazing. This last time we picked out a jam to pair the cheese with. We asked one of the ladies to recommend what would go with it and was able to try some samples and ended up buying two types. They offered to cut a wedge in half which was nice! They also interact well with the community. They have classes, endorse other stores, and have pairings out during the Farmers Market. The two employees there this past Saturday afternoon were helpful, patient, and knowledgable, able to readily provide recommendations based on the types of cheese I said I liked or ones I asked about. Prices and sizes were reasonable; I spent about $10 for two types of soft cheeses. I'll be back for more when visiting Lodi again! read more

This place is good. Never seen a cheese shop in my life. But they have all sorts of different types of cheeses. Fancy cheese, stinky cheese, goat cheese, among others. All sorts of crackers and breads too. Different types of dipping condiments, from vinaggretes to different flavored olive oild. The staff is friendly, knowledgable and helpful. They also have various wines from the Lodi appellations as well as different craft beers. It's a cute little shop in downtown Lodi, which is also always rather charming. The only draw back I saw is the price. It's a little pricy. I paid $8 for a seasoned goat cheese, which goes awesome with bagels, at the reccomendation of one of the ladies there. My family and I went to Oregon to taste cheese and when we came back a friend ours recommended Cheese Central and we had a better time in Lodi than we did in Oregon when it comes to cheese. I love cheese central! The staff is great and they can be so funny. Friday-sunday are very busy so if they dont get to you right away just wait a minute its well worth it! The cheese is heavenly! Sometimes its so busy that they dont have some of samples YET! They usually cut another if they are not to busy. And THEY TASTE BLUES LAST lol! I just read a review about how one of the gals wouldnt give them a sample after tasting blues duh! Cause they taste them last. So if your going in for some cheese they do blues last so YOU DONT RUIN your pallet. Anyways! Sweet baby Gouda this place is good. Quaint cheese shops like Cheese Central are hard to come by nowadays. They have a great selection of cheese, sauces, spices, beers, wines and more! Lauren was helping out when we visited and didn't hesitate to offer us a sample of anything we wanted. Once she was nailing our tastes down she was able to offer even better selections. Cheese Central also offers various classes throughout the month. If I lived in Lodi, I would certainly take advantage. Excellent Service, Quality offerings, Wide selection and decent prices, I can't honestly find a flaw.
