TOP SHELF SH*T…read more Bolingbrook's premier liquor emporium has a huge selection and solid savings for members. Binny's is part of the Promenade at the intersection of Boughton & Janes. There are dozens of Binny's across Chicagoland and this is the third one I've been to (after Elmwood Park and Willowbrook). The inside is cavernous; despite clearly posted signage, you still may need to ask for help, so unless you enjoy aimless wandering, don't be shy! A 1.75L bottle of Russian Standard vodka was $30 (Binny's members save $5). They've got plenty of cordials and imported liqueurs like Italian limoncello, Greek ouzo, and sherry. There are entire aisles dedicated to whiskey, vodka, tequila (whoop there go my pants!), and gin. Wines are priced fairly and you could spend hours perusing the bins of red, white, and rosé. On the right side of where you enter, there's a humidor filled with cigars. It's not always manned -- you'll need to ring a bell to summon a sales associate -- but Greg was patient while I made my choices. The humidor was stocked with a nice variety of Montecristo, Arturo Fuente, Romeo y Julieta, Oliva, lower-tier Cohibas and lots more. They have a dizzying variety of craft beers and a wall fridge packed with cold cans, bottles, and mini kegs. I found a sweet 22oz'er of Sapporo (my 2nd favorite Japanese beer) alongside a 24oz Modelo picante. The beer prices aren't too bad, although you can find cases of domestics (Coors, Miller, Budweiser) for $1-3 less at CVS, Walgreens, and Meijer. I was disappointed that not only did the store not carry Big Mich michelada mix, but the manager-looking type behind the counter flat out told me "he'd never even heard of it". Well pal, I got news for ya--Big Mich is *THE* best michelada mix on the market, and furthermore, THEY'RE CHICAGO-BASED! If Binny's stocked this local brand (and they absolutely should), I wouldn't have to venture out to a liquor store in the city to hunt it down. * TL;DR * This holiday season, why not get your relative a large bottle of alcohol? They probably need it. Binny's is terrific when it comes to broad strokes, but finer details may require additional stops. If you're searching for something specific to a region or geographic area (like my Asahi Dry lager from Japan) you'd have better luck at La Fiesta Market (for Latinx stuff), H Mart (for Asian goodies), or other ethnic grocery store. I saw a motto posted somewhere that said "if we don't carry it, it's not worth drinking!" While this is mainly true, and you can find the majority of things on Binny's shelves, no store is perfect and there's ~always~ room for improvement.

From the time my girlfriend and I entered the store until the time we left Vince and Jason treated us like long lost friends. They have their own line of cigars two of which I sampled in the store-the first was gratis-completely uncalled for but very much appreciated. Both the F1 rothschild and the maduro were light with robust flavors, an even, complete burn and wonderful smoke. We were allowed into the members only lounge and constantly entertained and made to feel at home despite a store full of other customers. A couple of hours later and after waiting 20 minutes for the hotel shuttle to come pick back for us, they offered to give us a ride back to the hotel. (not to call us a cab, but to actually take us themselves!) They do carry some well-known national brands, but they are eager to proudly offer their own hand-rolled line. They start by giving you the history of their shop and to proudly show off signed pictures of prior customers including Groucho, Milton and Tony Soprano. Too bad I don't live in Oakbrook.

Happy Anniversary Happy Anniversary…read moreHappy Anniversary... Haaaapy Anniversary! So yeah, it was our wedding anniversary this past November. Four years of wedded bliss and having the best husband on Earth be all mine. My husband is seriously the kindest man in the world and takes amazing care of me no matter how sick I am or how bad a day I'm having, he's always got my back. He's constantly doing things to make sure I'm okay and this year, even though we said no gifts, I wanted to buy him a little something for him so he could take some time for himself and relax. The man rarely gets a chance and it was my gift to him to give him something to make sure he relaxes. Hmmmm...what should I get him?? Ah, yes, cigars!! He deserves some man-ly delicious fine cigars. I parked in their quaint parking lot. (That's polite Yelp-code for small and jammed packed.) I actually parked in the only open place to park and asked the man unloading if I could block him in for a few minutes. He was kind enough to allow me to do so on this rainy, misty gross November 23rd. I met my guy Tim!! So knowledgeable and kind. I have close to zero idea what's good and what's just ok. I didn't even browse...I just walked right up to the counter and waited for him to become available for consultation. As soon as he freed up, he accompanied me into the cigar vault (as I like to call it) or humidor. It was packed with a metric crap ton of cigars from all over the world. Prices ranging all over to fit any budget! You can spend $5 or $95 on a cigar. I mean, when I say all over on pricing, I mean it. He was offering a "Buy 4, get the 5th free" deal I took him up on and had his assistance picking out some fine cigars at excellent price points. I ended up getting a nice Davidoff Geneve boxed press from Nicaragua, an Avo Syncro Toro also from Nicaragua, an Avo Classic No. 2, a Gran Toro Shade Undercrown, and one of their own house blend cigars. I told Tim I doubted he would smoke them right away and asked what I should do with them to keep them fresh. He bagged them up and included a little packet that would act as a humidor to keep them fresh for 45-60 days. I graciously thanked him for his help and was on my way. The hubster loved his gift and was so surprised by what I got him because he's not a regular cigar smoker by any means however I have caught on that he really enjoys the occasional smoke. He's planning to smoke one soon with a buddy if the weather ever calms the heck down! Also, the establishment is BYOB and there is a lounge area to kick back indoors if you'd like to have a smoke inside with some fellow cigar lovers. Light up and be safe, people!
