The building may be small but it's the perfect size for a busy kitchen and small front area to pick up great take-out food. Wow....can they put out some amazing down home southern food. They're all very friendly and welcoming and once again....man can they cook. I had the chopped BBQ, candied yams, collard greens, and cornbread. The chopped BBQ is spicy and vinegary. It didn't even need barbeque sauce, but you can get that as well. The candied yams had a spice that I couldn't figure out but it was addictive. I just wanted more. Collard greens were excellent. Cornbread was moist and tender. My wife wasn't that hungry so she ordered the Mac & Cheese. Warm, comforting, and cheesy. She loved it. My cornbread was so good that she ended up eating most of it. Couldn't ask for much more than that. Next time we order I'm going to try the Smothered Pork Chops.

The place is tiny and in a residential neighborhood, so if you blink, you'll miss it! The meal satisfied the craving (the fried whiting and collard greens were Banging!) But the sides were not quite like Mama's. A little pricey for the amount of food. Would possibly stop by again. It's Take-Out only!

I've been by this place a generous number of times, but while the idea of going to a chicken and…read morewaffle place interested me, I didn't have the drive to actually go there. However, that all changed once I had seen the other review posted here, and it's by a name I have seen plenty of times before on Yelp. Actually, there are plenty of places in Waterbury that we have in common on Yelp. So once I read that review, that solidified my decision to finally go. By being the second review on here, I hope this place can use what we have said about Rooster's Chicken & Waffles to find ways to improve and become a better place to eat. And yes, this place DEFINITELY could use improvements! It is a small hole in the wall that is hidden from the main shopping plaza it is on. You have to know where it is to come here. Upon arrival, I had noticed that it claims to have been voted the best chicken and waffles in Connecticut. Now that's a bold claim if I've ever heard one. And yes, I will be putting it to the test since I recently had some good chicken and waffles in Bridgeport. Plus, I know when Southern comfort food is good as I've had it both in Connecticut AND in the South, so you can take what I said about putting that claim to the test and bank on it! Customer service is what I would call a work in progress. The cashiers seems nice enough, but I could tell, not just from my order, but another couple that walked in while I was waiting, that they scramble to get everything right. It is like watching a chicken running around without its head being chased by Wile E. Coyote. Case in point, I ordered the 6 wings and waffle combo with a side of spicy Mac n cheese. Now, I chose Cajun for my "sauce", but one would think when you mention you want Cajun they would know it was a dry rub. Apparently this place never got the memo and had to ask after my ordering if that was what I wanted. Oh, another thing I have to mention, this place is small, like walking into a red box. A red, decrepit, run-down box. This was fully confirmed the moment I walked into the bathroom piece and saw the toilet. It was straight broken on the top, and the toilet itself shook when I flushed. So yeah, I DO NOT recommend going to the bathroom here! Now onto the food and drink itself. So this was a mixed bag. What do I mean by that? Well, let's start off with the fact that when I got the Mountain Dew from their fountain machine, it was totally botched! I didn't taste ANY Mountain Dew and instead got basically bland seltzer. I couldn't even finish that. The chicken and waffle was the best thing I had. The chicken was seasoned perfectly with the rub, and it was juicy and tender. I can still say it does not pass the test of being the best in the state, but the chicken carries this meal well on its own. The waffle was good too, a little sugar on the top. Again, not Connecticut's best, but good enough that if you came here, you won't go wrong with just a chicken and waffle order. The spicy Mac n cheese however? I have a bone to pick with that! Whatever cheese was on there was overpowered by whatever spice was thrown on there. I'm a fan of good Mac and cheese, and I love me some good spicy food, but this needed all the public assistance it could get. If you order this, then you need to bring it home and doctor it up with whatever cheese you can find until you can finally taste the cheese! As it came, it was almost inedible. So yeah, while the chicken and waffles were good on their own and carried the meal, these flaws that this place had were too much for me to give this any better than a 2. I hope this place can work out its kinks and be better, but as it is it's just not it.

I found that to b a lot for just me, but when I opened the tray, I saw, exactly why it was so much, the chicken tenders r huge! More like boneless chicken breast sized tenders !! The waffle had sugar on it (I think; I know it was very sweet w. A crunch that I believe comes from sugar! Not something I asked for! But I guess, the concept "plays off 1 another" my chicken tenders "were sweating in " inside the styrofoam tray, which made the breading "crispiness disappear" u would think they'd poke holes to avoid this problem but if ur reading this make sure u poke them urself!! That was disappointing, they were ok, but probably tasted way better when they were crispy!! The place has a long table wall w. Few benches, but I'd pass on sitting inside! ! it was freezing in there, after telling him, he quickly accommodated me, turned the AC off & the heat on!!! The floor was super STICKY! Like gross sticky !! I'd luv to know when was the last time the place was mopped!! It gives hole in the wall, its meaning! I will say the cashier was very nice. A small Language barrier but nothing a few "what, huh? & point" didn't fix! LoL I might go back but I definitely wouldn't order a family sized meal! if u order online u can save a whopping 5% !!
